Insert usual disclaimers about taking this rumor with a complimentary (and DSOGaming branded) fat grain of salt. With that out of the way we can get on to the important business of games journalism; VGLeaks reports Square Enix has quite the release schedule for PC. It’s pretty believable given Square’s recent focus on the platform.
According to the sleuths at VGLeaks, Square Enix’s release schedule for PC includes titles like Final Fantasy I, Final Fantasy II, Final Fantasy XII: The Zodiac Age, Final Fantasy Tactics: The War of the Lions and Chrono Trigger by the end of 2017.
VGLeaks’ report also claims that within the first half of 2018 PC gamers can expect releases of the Final Fantasy VII remake and the recently debuted Final Fantasy XV.

Took them long enough to release Chrono Trigger, bloody thing was ported to every device under the sun but not on PC.
Provided isn’t a botched job (and not just a rumour 😛 ), I might finally finish it properly.
Not really, it’s been released on SNES, PS1, DS and mobile. So no major home consoles for ~20 years. Let’s hope they don’t f*ck with the art style like they did with FFV and FFVI.
Humm… it seemed more for some reason. :v
They’ve re-released emulated versions on newer platforms like the Wii virtual console and PSN on PS3, so that might be it.
Every device capable of emulating SNES has emulated Chrono Trigger. That’s why it seems like the game has been ported to all.
Final Fantasy XV 2018 ?? wtf
Assuming it doesn’t run like a hungover snail like a large majority of Square’s ports then this is something to get hyped over.
agreed, FFXV is a very very good looking game in its own right but seeing it on pc in 4k/1440p over 30fps will be a really fun sight
They started to work of some original updates like customizable character, so it seems likely that they will keep developing new features for the game. Besides 1 year is nothing and everybody here probably has more than enough games to play during that time 🙂
I know i do, steam library sitting at 287 games as of writing this. Plus im playing FFXV on my own PS4 my gf bought me just for this game and KH3 so I can wait a year or so for the PC version. Maybe ill do a 100% run on PC when it drops.
I’m not a fan of Japanese games, but I’ve seen some people gloating over PC players, calling them “PC beggar race” (because reportedly FFXV wasn’t coming to PC). I’d love to see the PC version of the game make them butthurt.
Eh, I’ve seen them shrugging off SC for a while now. No matter what I’ve shown to some of them, they don’t seem to care because they know they cannot run such a game. That and Death Stranding is supposedly Sony exclusive. Fans of that game already think that’s the best looking game ever (it’s really not though).
Death stranding is coming to PC a little bit after PS4 actually
I’m still waiting on complete confirmation that it will. So far we haven’t heard anything since last Dec, a while year ago on whether or not it’s definitely coming to PC. ALso you have to consider that the game is using a Sony exclusive engine as well as having Cerny on board and Sony’s funding. THe game is basically 90% Sony made.
Quantum Broken was in a similar situation, for that matter.
Kojima is a big enough name that he can demand just about anything. If he says “I want it to be a timed exclusive” Sony won’t say no, & I doubt he’d say “it’s coming to PC later” if it won’t, at all, ever, because it can’t, because Sony said so.
I dunno, Sony could easily Sway him into making it as such. I just find all the recent evidence pointing towards more Sony resources being handed to him than resources he actually owns by himself. Team contribution, Cerny, the Pro instead of say a high end rig being the main placement system for the game, the Engine used for Killzone instead of a non Sony owned one. Most of that just points towards Sony’s end that a game that would be released on PC and we still haven’t heard a peep for a while year on the PC version.
And we won’t, either. That’s always how it works in such cases, nobody says “yeah, it’s not actually exclusive…..!” Just look at how Rockstar spent years being mum about GTA V PC, & again now the same with RDR2.
Also, when it’s a console-exclusive, there’s a far greater stigma around talking about a PC port than there is admitting you’re going to be porting your PC-exclusive game to consoles, even if that only happens at some point post-launch. Especially when it’s a PS-exclusive, rather than an Xbox-exclusive.
Sure, it is true that Kojima hates ports, but I think he’s truly moved past the days of “PlayStation-exclusive” now. Also, I’d argue Sony’s only giving him so much tech because he had to leave Konami with nothing, & it would take him years to re-code a new engine for himself, Sure, I might be wrong, but eh. Time will tell, I suppose.
And that stigma issue is what is annoying second to what was said before about them buying up IP’s.
I dunno, I just have a gut feeling that Kojima has gotten too friendly with Sony and Cerny. We see indie devs or irregular ones slagging off the Wii U or dropping support. Sony/Kojima not making a PC port won’t really hurt Sony or Kojima, it just means that we lose out and they lose out on making even more money.
I guess the PlayStation kiddies are doing their little “de nile” thing right now on that matter…..
Dont they always lol
I dunno about it going to PC. The devs have already made the money on the game itself via us, the public and the millions we gave them. Anything else gained on release day is a bonus. They shouldn’t have to put it on PC because that would then mean watering down the game for lower end boxes, the devs stated some years back that they didn’t want to go down such a route and tbh, PC hasn’t had a high end demanding game since Crysis and I think it’s time they got something.
I liked the trailers for DS, but we know nothing about the game, how it even looks with in-game footage let alone how we play it. Sony players will just keep hyping it up as if it could never fail, but we’ll see how that turns out.
There is one thing that should be changed though. If Sony is going to fund and keep what they fund exclusive to their system, then PC users who actively go out of their way to fund games on PC, the devs should do the same. THe publishers should be the first to give way, not us the users. Once that happens, the walls can be destroyed and full exclusivity can die, but until then we should apply the same rules.
Yup “PC WILL NEVER HAVE FFXV, ITS A CONSOLE GAME.” I cant wait for it to come out to prove them wrong, damn you RDR, i dont care about you, but i want a pc version just to stick it to the console fanboys.
Lol you remind me the whole deal with star citizen a few year ago.
Console fanboy: “No one cares about your little nerd game”
Meanwhile “ZOMG NO MANS SKY OMG SO GOODZ”
Freaking idiots they fail every time but dont learn from it.
I agree: and sadly, every time an article about Bloodborne or Red Dead Redemption comes out, there is a mandatory line saying “hopefully it comes to PC” or “please, please Rockstar release it on PC”. It’s really pathetic.
Yes, but that is mostly an official emulator that needs a high speed internet connection and, AFAIK, a controller to play it. It’s not a PC game.
“The newest red dead will be out on PC after the consoles”. Until I see official confirmation on the matter, I won’t hold my breath for it.
Let’s hope you’re right and it doesn’t take another year and a half after release.
I personally don’t look into consoles mostly because they are damn expensive in my country and I actually need a powerful PC for work so, say the PC is $1000. If I need to upgrade the GPU it’s another $250/$300 every few years. A console, $700 every few years. It’s just not worth it. And considering the number of console exclusives that look interesting to me are actually very few (from the latest crop the only one I’m interested is Horizon Zero Dawn and, mostly because of hype, Uncharted and The Last of Us) so it makes no sense to me from that point of view.
Rant over. So yeah, I look forward to that as well for that reason (there are just not enough games set on the wild west… and now that I think about it, an RPG set there would be awesome) but it doesn’t come… well, alas.
Agreed. And now with MS launching their games in PC as well what’s the point of an XBOX for us? I still want Halo MCC though.
I want to believe that they will make the PC version the definitive and better game, but most of these publishers have just dolled out console ports with some shiny settings that demand far more power and output so little. I doubt SE would make a version of XV for PC that makes current gen look like last gen, most of the other pubs haven’t done so either.
Say, have not seen you for a while, how are the sonyfanboys taking the way things have been going for the last year or so?
I never got around finishing Chrono Trigger on my old PSX back in the day, if it turns out to be a good port on PC with increased resolution and some added goodness, I will most certainly grab it!
Square Enix 2017 profit from PC division: $0
I wouldnt be too sure about that. Chrono Trigger is a heavy hitting name in the RPG community and more JRPG/RPGs on the platform is never a bad thing. I always said the only reason to buy a PS4 is if youre a big fan of that genre seeing how PC doesnt get many good ones. Now that they seem to be on the right track for PC support, i cant give any reasons to buy a PS4 now. FFXV will make bank as will FFVII remake. Chrono will bring in some revenue if done right as well and lets not forget Tactics, one of the best FF non-main titles ever made.
lolwut?
Well, if they don’t sell games to PC how do they want to make money in the PC market?
Its ok. Theres so much game in my STEAM library that one more woldnt make any difference.
goVEGAN
Hopefully FFXII remaster comes to PC early, its my favourite after FF IX.
was XII good? its one of the games i never got around to and dont hear it being talked about much so i know 0 about it
FFX fans were pretty butthurt over it, but I personally dislike 10(though I like X-2 cause camp) so I really liked XII. The gameplay was really fun, the story was about politics and the world. It had little emphasis on individual characters(even though the characters are great) and overall better writing. I guess that put off the FFX fans, also the gameplay is active/hybrid/turn based/real-time system.
sounds unique and definitely worth a go. once im done with 15, 7, and the 10 duology of course lol
It blows my mind as to why anyone would be butthurt over a title being successful, especially if it is in the same series of another game that they liked (if FF even REALLY counts as a series in the traditional sense). It is a hell of a lot better than the stream of crap Square is spewing faster than a fat guy on taco night.
They believed that if the game was successful the traditional gameplay they love would be scrapped. Even though, the ever changing factor of Final Fantasy is its biggest merit. If every game played the same, no game will be special.
Awesome news! 😀
I hope they also bring Chrono Cross later.
Guess im holding off on FFXII remaster then.
makes sense, especially when tabata the director of the game said that it will take them a year to make a proper pc version of xv
I’ll believe it when I see it but I really want to see it.
Excellent, Chrono Trigger is one of the few jRPG’s I really enjoy, such a fantastic game!
Ok i keep hearing about it for ages now, i dont like jrpgs either, whats the deal with chronotrigger?
chrono trigger is a masterpiece and usually carrying the term “one of the best games and jrpgs ever made”
Final Fantasy Tactics: The War of the Lions, now we are talking, couldn’t care less about the rest of the jRPG crap from Square though.
Make it a bundle with Tactics and Tactics Advance and you have a deal, Square.
I was gonna say where is Tactics advance. Hopefully they toss it in before 2018.
I dont really care about FFXV but if SE dont release FFVII Remake around the same time as PS4 then I wont be buying any more games from them.
There is no way Sony is going to let timed exclusivity of a gem like FFVII slip through their fingers, and there is no one in the PC ring willing to pony up the kind of money to compete with that. This is just something that has become the norm for us PC gamers.
So, are the decade+ old games coming to PC with all the protections afforded by the latest version of the Denuvo DRM Service, or are they going to GOG, as they rightfully should be?
Hm…..
What about Steam?
Steam is a guarantee in this day & age, unless it’s an EA-published or Microsoft-owned title, as those are pretty much the only PC titles that aren’t coming to Steam these days, re-releases or otherwise.
A secondary distributor like GOG on the other hand, is another question entirely. A presence on GOG would at least guarantee Square Enix isn’t applying its Denuvo mania to decade+ old titles, whereas its presence on Steam wouldn’t.
If they’re not coming to Steam, I’m not buying. I absolutely don’t care about GOG because it doesn’t have regional pricing, and even then I’d prefer to have all my games in one place.
See above 😛
Huh?
Replied to Sun on the same thing, was indicating “see above comment/reply”;
“Steam is a guarantee in this day & age, unless it’s an EA-published or Microsoft-owned title, as those are pretty much the only PC titles that aren’t coming to Steam these days, re-releases or otherwise.
A secondary distributor like GOG on the other hand, is another question entirely. A presence on GOG would at least guarantee Square Enix isn’t applying its Denuvo mania to decade+ old titles, whereas its presence on Steam wouldn’t.”
If those decade-old titles are being refreshed with Steamworks integration, then I doubt they will have a presence on GOG. And I’d prefer Steamworks integration actually, as opposed to a no-frills direct port.
If Steamworks is used, then absolutely. If not….. Yeah.
FF Tactics is the best FF game out there, the rest of them are rubbish. and Chrono Triger is the best JRPG ever but these games are really old, played them on SNES and have them on emulator, why would i buy such a thing ? and 2 years delay for that dude bro thingy ?
Because emulated versions aren’t legal? Unless of course you own the original on SNES.
I owned the original on SNES not now (threw them out) but still have the Roms. maybe ilegal in some countries but sorry don’t give a s**t.
Why did you “throw” them out? i figured people in Iran didn’t have access to such things in the first place.
Lack of Space and lots of physical copies.
i had a SNES when it’s launched, Genesis was a main platform here and everyone had one but i loved SNES more because of it’s batman game.
Wow, throwing out costly cartridges just because of lack of space huh. Sounds like Iranians are much better off than it seems. Here in India something like that would be unthinkable.
Either way, if you’re well-off enough to be able to discard cartridges as you please, I’m sure you can spare a few bucks for a legal copy of those emulated games on Steam. It won’t cost you physical space, that’s for sure.
It was expensive in early 90s but 20 years later they were useless specially when you and no one else have that console anymore, who wants that ?
“I’m sure you can spare a few bucks for a legal copy”
No, why should i pay twice for the same game ? i’m sure it’s not ilegal even if it is, i still don’t give a f**k.
“It won’t cost you physical space”
So as that 5mb ROM.
“It was expensive in early 90s but 20 years later they were useless
specially when you and no one else have that console anymore, who wants
that ?”
— That’s why the game is coming to digital platforms. I thought that was obvious. And a game can’t be “useless” because it cannot decay. Otherwise no one would be playing games like Doom and Quake today.
“No, why should i pay twice for the same game ?”
— Coz you don’t own it anymore, remember? Unlike digital goods, you can’t get another copy of a physical product by discarding the previous one.
” i’m sure it’s not ilegal even if it is, i still don’t give a f**k”
— It’s a gray area. I’m not sure about the rules and regulations of Iran, but it’s because of this “gray area” that I’m refraining from calling you a pirate. And btw, not giving a f*ck doesn’t set things right on your part at all. No one owes you free sh*t, whether you are from Iran or anywhere else.
“So as that 5mb ROM.”
— Legally questionable ROM you mean.
“That’s why the game is coming to digital platforms”
No need, i have a ROM.
“Coz you don’t own it anymore”
Don’t care, don’t paying for it anymore.
“not sure about the rules and regulations of Iran”
They aren’t any, Video games are banned.
“I’m refraining from calling you a pirate”
You can call me that, pirated almost every x360 games i had, they weren’t any original copies out there.
“No one owes you free sh*t, whether you are from Iran or anywhere else”
I still don’t give a f**k about these bulls**t moral speeches, were where you when f**king EA banned our whole country and we can’t even access our library ? yup, all of my 33 games in origin are no more, 10 of them were free or crappy cheap games and the rest were almost full priced AAA games but you think i give a f**k about these kinds of publishers or should i listen to you and feel ashamed ? sorry there are no moral high grounds stop acting like your on one.
“Legally questionable ROM you mean”
Whatever you like to call them. won’t change my mind.
“No need, i have a ROM.”
— I know you do, makes no difference to what I said.
“Don’t care, don’t paying for it anymore.”
— I know you don’t. I’m just telling you why you’re wrong.
“They aren’t any, Video games are banned.”
— So by that logic so is emulation. Video games being banned means there is a rule against video games.
“You can call me that, pirated almost every x360 games i had, they weren’t any original copies out there.”
— Good to know. Still illegal though.
“I still don’t give a f**k about these bulls**t moral speeches, were
where you when f**king EA banned our whole country and we can’t even access our library ?”
— I thought video games were banned in Iran? How did you buy games in the first place if they were banned? Please make up your mind before thinking I’m lecturing you morally. I know Iran has problems with video games. However I don’t see how that would legitimize piracy. In fact that would restrict it even more.
“yup, all of my 33 games in origin are no more, 10 of them were free or crappy cheap games and the rest were almost full priced AAA games but you think i give a f**k about these kinds of publishers”
— Blame your country’s politics, not EA for that. I know that sucks for you as a consumer but there’s not much EA can do about it.
“sorry there are no moral high grounds stop acting like your on one.”
— I’m not on a moral high ground. I’m telling you what it is.
“Whatever you like to call them. won’t change my mind.”
— Wasn’t intended to.
what the hell are you talking about?
stop acting like a moron, he is telling you that he paid for copies before and now he got the roms, what is wrong with that when he had already paid for them?
illegal or not its still not a wrong thing to do when he had already paid for them, and stop coming with morally retarded standards
start using your head, sooner or later you’ll thank me
Look, it’s not a question of morality and I’m not judging anyone because emulation itself is a gray area. What I’m saying is that once you “throw away” a boxed copy, you effectively stop owning the rights to the game, that’s it. Just because you owned a game “at some point” doesn’t entitle you another copy unless explicitly stated as in the case of some digital goods.
“I’m not judging anyone”
You are, specially when you call X is wrong Y is not legal etc…
“once you “throw away” a boxed copy, you effectively stop owning the rights”
No, that’s your opinion, i have the digital Rom why should i keep the boxed version ? you can call it a trade, converted my boxed copy to digital, simple as that. i also had splintercell’s boxed copy, i created a backup (later downloaded a latest version with a crack – cuz of it’s DRM) then destroyed the boxed version.
“You are, specially when you call X is wrong Y is not legal etc”
— That’s not being judgmental. Being judgmental does not mean pointing out what’s illegal or not.
“No, that’s your opinion, i have the digital Rom why should i keep the boxed version ?”
— No, that’s not my opinion but a fact. For boxed versions, the license is tied to your possession of the physical copy. If you don’t have the physical copy, you no longer have the proof of purchase. Literally anyone can claim they owned the game at some point and are entitled to a free copy by your logic.
“i also had splintercell’s boxed copy, i created a backup (later downloaded a latest version with a crack – cuz of it’s DRM) then destroyed the boxed version.”
— Again this won’t hold up in legal terms. You have to have proof that you explicitly owned the game. If you destroy the proof then no one can identify you as an owner. That’s the reason stores provide receipts. If you at least have the receipt you might get a digital copy from the game publisher but that also is not always guaranteed.
Again i don’t care what counts in a court, i own the game, s**ty DRM made it unplayable, made a backup and put a crack on it and now it’s playable. problem solved, publisher can go to hell.
Did the court said, hey they handicaped you game and infected your PC here is your compensation ? nope. so legal vs illegal means s**t in some areas specially when those rules are against cutomers.
I was talking about the emulated games, not the EA ones.
Piracy laws or laws about digital goods are either anti consumer or outdated and sometimes they are none.
Really, and what would be your solution to prove ownership then?
I know i own the game, i play the said game without giving a f**k and they can’t do anything about it.
How would you own the game if you threw the copy away? Do you have the receipt or any other proof of purchase? Anyone can claim they “own” the game and that’s the reason proof is needed.
“Do you have the receipt or any other proof of purchase?”
Lets say i have, are they going to give it to me for free ? no. end of story, back to emulating.
That’s the thing… even if you have the receipt, it’s no guarantee you might get a free copy. That’s why it’s not legal. Ultimately the creators of the game hold the rights, you don’t. You paid for a single license, not multiple licenses unless the creator specifically mentioned as such.
So you can go ahead and emulate, but it doesn’t make it legal. Which is the point I was making.
Well i did that and will continue to do so.
I know. Doesn’t make it “right” though.
Yeah don’t care.
Didn’t ask you to care. If everyone cared we’d not be having this discussion. My point was about the legality, not whether I think you should care or not.
“I’m just telling you why you’re wrong”
And your wrong.
“Video games being banned means there is a rule against video games.”
Not a sheep, don’t follow the rules.
“I thought video games were banned in Iran?”
So as alcohol, partying and many other thing, again only a sheep follow those rules.
“You should have been very careful about buying from Origin”
Oh now i am the F***king problem not a company who sell it’s games to us then deny the access to those who bought them.
“Blame your country’s politics, not EA for that”
Why ? why not blame EA ? they sold them, we bought them, they gave support, they remove them, for what ? sanctions ? after they lifted them in jan 2016 ? and how military/nuclear sanctions have to do with gaming ? Apple just lifted it don’t know why EA decided to put them in, hell blizzard did that few years ago, few days after the backlash from the community they lifted them as well, well they are tons of blizzard fans over here and many Fifa fans as well, but blizzard at least listend to people, EA just deleted the whole thread.
“I’m not on a moral high ground. I’m telling you what it is”
And your wrong in every aspect. don’t lecture me anymore and follow your rules and make sure to suck EA’s b*lls while your at it, cuz you know, a company can do whatever F they want but as a customer your just have to take it and bending over for more and follow the rules.
So with all due respect, Go F yourself.
“And your wrong.”
— Yeah okay. Care to show how?
“Not a sheep, don’t follow the rules.”
— That would mean it’s okay to break the rules against you as well? Can I just walk into your house and take your stuff then? Iran must be a great place.
“So as alcohol, partying and many other thing, again only a sheep follow those rules.”
— Alcohol and partying don’t affect other people’s properties or rights.
“Oh now i am the F***king problem not a company who sell it’s games to us then deny the access to those who bought them.”
— The original topic about emulating old games has nothing to do with EA. Also I didn’t say it was your fault entirely. I said that EA should not have sold their games there when they could not support them permanently. But I’m curious, if video games were really banned how did you manage to buy games and consoles like SNES anyway? I don’t know about Iran much so please enlighten me.
“pple just lifted it don’t know why EA decided to put them in, hell
blizzard did that few years ago, few days after the backlash from the community they lifted them as well, well they are tons of blizzard fans over here and many Fifa fans as well, but blizzard at least listend to people”
— So basically you are restricted to playing games in offline mode, correct?
“And your wrong in every aspect. don’t lecture me anymore and follow your rules and make sure to suck EA’s b*lls while your at it”
— Nice try, but the topic was not about EA but about emulation. You’re trying to divert attention by shifting the issue at hand that has nothing to do with EA. As for myself, I barely buy their games because I don’t like games like Battlefield or FIFA. EA stopped selling retail copies in India, effectively killing off their market. So I don’t know why you’re obsessed with me sucking EA’s balls or whatever.
“So with all due respect, Go F yourself.”
— With all due respect, you do realize by now that insults barely affect me, right? Don’t consider making the situation worse for yourself by playing to stereotypes and resorting to third-world language without provocation.
“Yeah okay. Care to show how?”
By your logic, because i said so.
“it’s okay to break the rules against you as well?”
So goverments = people’s personal life ?
“Alcohol and partying don’t affect other people’s properties or rights”
So as infinite Roms.
“if video games were really banned how did you manage to buy games”
Didn’t i told you about the rules and sheeps ? also they are not officialy banned, only BF3 was officialy banned, but in general they don’t like them and unofficialy they are all banned.
” I don’t know about Iran much so please enlighten me”
You were a fellow countryman in history, you must know these stuff, i’m not your teacher, learn for yourself.
“So basically you are restricted to playing games in offline mode, correct?”
Nope. which blizzard game is offline btw ?
“was not about EA but about emulation”
No, it was about you telling me how i must follow the rules and bend over no matter how they might treat me as a customer and must not emulate the game that i owned and it only works this way not the other way around, so companies can do whatever they want but we can’t.
“you do realize by now that insults barely affect me, right?”
Yeah i know that, we had a long conversation about DRMs and in the end you asked me for evidence then you shut up and we had another conversation about the same issue and again handed you the same evidence and you shut up again. nothing affects you.
“obsessed with me sucking EA’s balls”
Not just EA, every god damn company, after all you always play their advocate and companies first then consumer rights or anything else.
“making the situation worse for yourself”
lol wut ?
“By your logic, because it said so.”
— What did my “logic” say?
“So goverments = people’s personal life ?”
— Governments set rules which affect personal lives.
“So as infinite Roms.”
— Illegal ROMs affect the creators of those games because they haven’t given you permission to use them. You are essentially acquiring something against that. This true for actual piracy, but as I said for emulation, that’s a gray area. However, since it’s a gray area, it doesn’t mean it’s legal either.
“Didn’t i told you about the rules and sheeps ? also they are not officialy banned”
— What do you mean “officially banned” and “unofficially banned”? If it’s banned by your government then there’s nothing unofficial about it.
“You were a fellow countryman in history, you must know these stuff, i’m not your teacher, learn for yourself.”
— Heh, indeed. But that was centuries ago. I was talking about modern Iran’s policies. Not historic Iran, as in Persia.
“Nope. which blizzard game is offline btw ?”
— I was talking about EA’s games. I thought you said Blizzard restored their services. And besides I don’t play Blizzard’s games either so don’t know much about them.
“so companies can do whatever they want but we can’t”
— The problem is with generalization. Your problem lies with EA, but you are claiming you have the right to do as you please with any company’s games. That’s like taking your anger out on someone else who has nothing to do with your situation.
“Yeah i know that, we had a long conversation about DRMs and in the end you asked me for evidence then you shut up and we had another conversation about the same issue and again handed you the same evidence and you shut up again. nothing affects you.”
— Yes I remember. It was about Tomb Raider and GTA V. I said I’d respond if I found something useful. I didn’t manage to so I didn’t reply. Those two games have genuine problems as far as your situation is concerned.
“Not just EA, every god damn company, after all you always play their advocate and companies first then consumer rights or anything else.”
— I advocate rights for everyone, whether they are companies or consumers. You didn’t read my comments regarding DLC, exclusivity or locked content and how I despise them.
“What did my “logic” say?”
Go back two comments, you said i was wrong twice and didn’t provide anything.
“Governments set rules which affect personal lives”
Yeah, mostly in negative ways.
“Illegal ROMs affect the creators”
Wasn’t going to give them money either way. so they won’t be affected. also not illegal.
“What do you mean “officially banned” and “unofficially banned?”
They are against it, they don’t like it, they sometimes block access to 3rd party stores for no reason but they will let you use them most of the time, tha’ts unofficial for you.
“I was talking about modern Iran’s policies”
It’s compilicated don’t have the time to explain all of it and tbh my english is not that good to be able to teach you how they work.
“I was talking about EA’s games. I thought you said Blizzard restored their services”
They did. no you can’t play your EA game anymore, you don’t have access to your library anymore that includes your offline games as well, it’s greyed out, unless you go online which you can’t do that either, lol. lets say DAI is an offline game, well it’s not, the DRM on that game forces you to go online every 72hours or so.
“but you are claiming you have the right to do as you please with any company’s games”
No, i have right to SAY whatever i please about a company. i don’t pirate any games unless they stole something from me like EA which i will pirate their games from now on if i’m intersted in any of them which i’m not. i just don’t buy chrono trigger because i have the ROM for a game that i owned and i’m not feeling guilty about it. this is not doing whatever i want, if i wanted to do whatever i want i pirate anything and don’t waste my time talking to people about it or compailn about bad practices.
“You didn’t read my comments regarding DLC”
I Guess i didn’t if it wasn’t a direct replay to my comments.
“Go back two comments, you said i was wrong twice and didn’t provide anything.”
— You mean emulation? I said it was a gray area. I also said it wasn’t legal, which is true.
“Yeah, mostly in negative ways.”
— So your government allows people to walk into your house and take your stuff like I said?
“Wasn’t going to give them money either way. so they won’t be affected. also not illegal.”
— If you weren’t going to give them money, you shouldn’t have been playing the game, period. Remember what I said about no one owing you free stuff.
“They are against it, they don’t like it, they sometimes block access to
3rd party stores for no reason but they will let you use them most of
the time, tha’ts unofficial for you.”
— Then there’s no ban. Ban means ban… meaning the distribution of video games is tightly controlled by the government, which is not the case for Iran.
“It’s compilicated don’t have the time to explain all of it and tbh my
english is not that good to be able to teach you how they work.”
— That’s not a good enough reason. Find some time then and respond when you can, I’ll be here. Your English won’t be a problem because I can understand you.
“no you can’t play your EA game anymore, you don’t have access to your library anymore that includes your offline games as well, it’s greyed out, unless you go online which you can’t do that either, lol. lets say DAI is an offline game, well it’s not, the DRM on that game forces you to go online every 72hours or so.”
— Is it only for DA: I or all games on Origin? For comparison, I can launch games like Dead Space in offline mode just fine, even without any validation after 72 hours or whatever.
“this is not doing whatever i want, if i wanted to do whatever i want i
pirate anything and don’t waste my time talking to people about it or
compailn about bad practices.”
— But then you admitted to destroying the proof of your ownership.
“I Guess i didn’t if it wasn’t a direct replay to my comments.”
— It wasn’t a direct reply. I’m saying you should not form your opinions by simply reading my comments selectively.
“So your government allows people to walk into your house and take your stuff like I said?”
“Mostly” i said mostly – anti consumer laws are the negative ones, don’t know why wont you get a simple thing.
“you shouldn’t have been playing the game, period”
Your in no place to tell me what to do and don’t.
“Then there’s no ban. Ban means ban”
No, not here. grey areas are all over the place.
“Is it only for DA: I or all games on Origin? For comparison, I can
launch games like Dead Space in offline mode just fine, even without any
validation after 72 hours or whatever.”
Any EA games that needs Origin running in the background. unless you have an outdated origin installed and logged in offline and all of those always offline games installed, maybe it works that way but if you go online, then it want to update itself, if you own the latest build of origin then you can’t access to your offline library as well.
“But then you admitted to destroying the proof of your ownership”
Lets say i didn’t, will they give me a right to play then ? no, so as many Securom Games in the past decade, they said F you, buy them again or use cracks.
“”Mostly” i said mostly – anti consumer laws are the negative ones, don’t know why wont you get a simple thing.”
— Video game laws are also laws. You can’t claim stealing video game properties as fine yet not be okay with it when it’s your own property that gets taken away.
“Your in no place to tell me what to do and don’t.”
— I just did. But you’ll do it anyway because you can. If there were consequences for your actions you wouldn’t have been so bold, simple.
“No, not here. grey areas are all over the place.”
— “Gray area” does not automatically make things legal. Gray area means the laws are questionable. But that doesn’t mean they explicitly grant you particular rights.
“if you own the latest build of origin then you can’t access to your offline library as well.”
— Is that so? First time I’m hearing about it. Will have to check with Dead Space by trying to go offline for 72 hours then.
“Lets say i didn’t, will they give me a right to play then ?”
— If you can prove your ownership they might. It depends on the publisher. Some publishers do provide you a digital copy if you show proof of a previous purchase of the same product.
“Video game laws are also laws”
They are none here, we just respect an agreement with X company, that’s it and we hold to it until they F up.
“You can’t claim stealing video game properties as fine yet not be okay with it when it’s your own property that gets taken away”
When they do it and no one and no law will protect me, i will do it as well. it’s a reaction, that’s not stealing, even piracy is not stealing.
“doesn’t mean they explicitly grant you particular rights”
Just want to play a game that i paid for, i take that as my right and i will do it.
“Will have to check with Dead Space by trying to go offline for 72 hours then”
What ? only DAI has that DRM not DS. looks like you didn’t understand. in Iran you don’t have access to your library in Origin’s latest build from a few months ago. if you want to test it, you have to come over here and test it here.
“Some publishers do provide you a digital copy if you show proof of a previous purchase of the same product”
Most of them are not. they don’t care if you have the boxed version or not, they sell digital version separately. ubisoft don’t care if your spilinter cell wont work anymore, you have to crack it or buy another version without DRM if exist which i guess it’s not.
“They are none here, we just respect an agreement with X company, that’s it and we hold to it until they F up.”
— There are IP laws in Iran, Google it. Iran is also a member of the WIPO. Otherwise no company would bother selling their games there. Music, video, news… nothing would exist.
“When they do it and no one and no law will protect me, i will do it as well. it’s a reaction, that’s not stealing, even piracy is not stealing.”
— What did the companies steal from you? For the emulated games I mean, not EA. And by the way, piracy is theft of license, even though emulation might not always be piracy. I have discussed this multiple times if you happen to read my comments.
“Just want to play a game that i paid for, i take that as my right and i will do it.”
— That’s fine, but do you have the proof that you paid for something? That is all that is required.
” if you want to test it, you have to come over here and test it here.”
— So assume I’m in Iran and want to play a completely offline game on Origin like Dead Space in offline mode. What happens then?
“ubisoft don’t care if your spilinter cell wont work anymore, you have to crack it or buy another version without DRM if exist which i guess it’s not.”
— Which Splinter Cell? Ubisoft just provided free copies of the original Splinter Cell to everyone a while ago. They will again provide it this month on the 17th on Uplay. Even DSOGaming covered it.
“What did the companies steal from you?”
Besides EA, nothing right now, i didn’t steal from them either.
“That’s fine, but do you have the proof that you paid for something? That is all that is required.”
Required by whom ? it’s a moral choice, i know i owned the game and i’m going to emulate it.
“So assume I’m in Iran and want to play a completely offline game”
Open Origin,log-in, go to library, oops you can’t, a white page with an error about servers.
“Which Splinter Cell?”
Chaos Theory.
“Ubisoft just provided free copies of the original Splinter Cell to everyone”
I’m talking about a game that was released in 2005, giving the older version of the game for free doesn’t change the fact that it was unplayable for many people in the past decade.
“Besides EA, nothing right now, i didn’t steal from them either.”
”
— But you’re in a gray area as far as the emulation as concerned.
“Required by whom ? it’s a moral choice, i know i owned the game and i’m going to emulate it.”
— No it isn’t. It is required by the creators of the game. Literally anyone can say the owned the game otherwise. Can you go to the store and ask for a free beer by claiming you paid for it before?
“Open Origin,log-in, go to library, oops you can’t, a white page with an error about servers.”
— Even in offline mode? Sounds very strange. Unfortunate if that’s the case for you.
“I’m talking about a game that was released in 2005, giving the older version of the game for free doesn’t change the fact that it was unplayable for many people in the past decade.”
— You just said Splinter Cell before. You only mentioned Chaos Theory now. Anyway, what’s the problem with Chaos Theory? I’m not familiar with its issues.
“But you’re in a gray area as far as the emulation as concerned”
Doesn’t matter, still not a theft.
“Literally anyone can say the owned the game”
We are not in a court, so i do mine, you do you.
“Even in offline mode?”
No, unless you have a 4years old client installed on you PC and the said game is also installed and didn’t updated Origin in the past month, you might be good to go but who does that ?
“what’s the problem with Chaos Theory?”
Doesn’t matter, you are wasting my time and i end this discussion here. for DRM free version of it, you have to pay again to buy the newer edition.
“Doesn’t matter, still not a theft.”
— Not theft, but not legal either. That’s why it’s called gray area.
“We are not in a court, so i do mine, you do you.”
— Laws are applicable outside courts too. Courts are the place for resolutions based on laws, if you want to be technical.
“No, unless you have a 4years old client installed on you PC and the said game is also installed and didn’t updated Origin in the past month, you might be good to go but who does that ?”
— So do it then. You can play your games at least. Older versions are still available on the net.
“Doesn’t matter, you are wasting my time and i end this discussion here. for DRM free version of it, you have to pay again to buy the newer edition.”
— If you’re getting pissed and not explaining it to me, it probably means something’s not right in your logic. Furthermore I’m not wasting your time because I’m not forcing you to reply. You’re responding as per your own interest.
“Older versions are still available on the net”
You have to log-in for the first time after install (i guess) then it wants to update. doesn’t matter i have cracks for all of them.
Good for you then.
Emulating a product that isn’t even available for first-hand sale anymore is illegal?
….. So much for consumer rights, I guess.
“Not available for sale” does not equal expiration of license.
You mean copyright? Regardless, if it’s not available legally, then emulation isn’t even a choice, it’s a necessity, so Square Enix (or whomever, really) has very little ground to whine on.
Besides, in such cases, emulation is really just an extension of the second-hand sales market, anyway. I mean, we’re talking about a SNES game here, not a 3-year old PlayStation 3 title.
It’s a gray area, that much I admit.
SE slowly, ever so slowly releasing more titles to PC, but they are still clearly buddy with Sony with what they have planned for them. That Remake and XV port better be in tip top shape for the long wait.
You can just emulate Chrono Trigger on PC… you even get to pick, Android, PSX or SNES version.
Final Fantasy Tactics Lion War on Steam would quite amazing!
what’s interesting if you look at the characters and the story of Final Fantasy Tactics compared to say the later final fantasy games you start to see some patterns, the stories aren’t developed enough, the characters are not deep enough as npcs. The whole development is shallow compared to a game like Final Fantasy tactics.
It’s rather worrying for a company with so much money that stays going because it constantly releases phone games.
I can only hope any of this is true.
FF1. 2. and CT have been on Droid and iOS for literally at least 5 years, more. I know it was at least 2013 when I bought Trigger on Droid.
My hope is they don’t have the same god awful interface, but they will. Or the mandatory online license check, but they will.
Still waiting on these rumors to come true. Considering it’s FF 30th anniversary.
