Ubisoft Is Removing Games & CD Keys From UPLAY That Are Sold From Unauthorized Retailers

According to a number of reports these past days, it seems that Ubisoft is removing games and cd keys from UPLAY (that were purchased from unauthorized retailers). Since Ubisoft has not commented on this yet, we’re marking this as a rumour.

According to various reports in the official Ubisoft forum, Far Cry 4 was removed from a number of gamers that purchased it from unauthorized retailers such as G2A, CJS and Kinguin.

Ubisoft’s member ‘slump3r’ said:

“I use Kinguin as they always provided me cd keys that work and give me what I want for a price that seems fair (around 30-40 Eur/games, which fits what I would pay in Poland for the game in the polish language). Now, FC 4 was deleted from my games, and the key banished.”

Ubisoft’s member ‘guest-JbPjvw4n’ added:

“i have the same issue, i was playing last week and now i cant play? i BUY this game key and i want it again, i buy from allkeyshop.com the game and the directory link me to kingui”

Ubisoft’s member ‘Lelisevis1978’ also said:

“Woke up this morning to find that Farcry 4 has gone from my account. I was bought the game from G2A”

It’s pretty much unclear whether Ubisoft decided to remove this game in order to prevent sales of stolen keys or not.

As we’ve already said, Ubisoft has not officially commented yet on this.

We also don’t know whether those retailers are offering refunds in case their cd keys are banned from UPLAY, so be sure to be careful while purchasing your games online.

  1. Yes because these sites offer their games much cheaper and they don’t like it because Ubisoft like EA charge PC gamers the most per copy. £50 for a digital copy is unacceptable.

Farcry 4 at GAME is £34.99 for the boxed copy with free delivery, on UPlay it’s £44.99 for a digital copy and £49.99 for a boxed copy.

    Boxed at GAME

    Farcry 4 – £34.99
    Assassins Creed Unity – £32.99
    Watch Dogs – £16.99
    The Crew – £19.99

    UPlay

£44.99 all games above for digital
    £49.99 for boxed.
    Watch Dogs – £23.99

    1. You forget to add: If you wanna play with all the DLC things as well, then you have to play MUCH more as well. For example just check out the Gold Edition of Far Cry 4 (PC digital version only, no box/DVD or delivery cost) in UPlay/Ubishop. Yeah, the price like for real gold.

  2. That’s why it’s interesting that some Producers themselves, on social media like FB, promote some events (even though some with charity objectives) that are mainly sponsored (or even named) by some of those keysellers.
Some months ago, one of those events was promoted by Kinguin and the response by PM by a certain Producer (whose game was used on the record attempt) was: “Thanks for voicing your concern. Our European distributor (…) set this up with Kinguin and whilst we can’t comment any of Kinguin’s business practices we want to show our full support for (…) the World Record attempt and most importantly the fundraising for Child’s Play.”
Which is fair enough for the final goal, but still kind of weird, since if you ask what are the authorized digital sellers for their games, they’ll probably won’t mention any of those.

  3. AWW poor Ubisoft can’t get their own way with £50 digital prices so they must throw their toys out of the pram.

  4. So I bought WD for $7 off Kinguin so is it going to remove? :O you do it Ubisoft and you will lose another customer!!!

    1. While I’m not a fan of the company in quesiton, I’m less of a fan of the key “resellers”. The reason Ubisoft is taking their keys back, is because the keys have been bought with a stolen credit card in the first place. Chargeback, and Ubisoft ends up with no money. The error on Ubisoft’s side is not what they are doing, but what they aren’t doing, informing their customers why things have gone the way they have. That should be the first thing they should do, to bring some understanding to the matter, and who the customers should blame, as it really isn’t Ubisoft in this game.

I’ve gotten my Assassins Creed Unity key removed because of this, but I sure as hell won’t be blaming Ubisoft for this, since the blame is on the company who choose to sell me a key aquiered from a stolen credit card.

      1. I don’t care how and why, ubisoft already had enough problems with their customers, shipping unfinished games, they could’ve done things differently without customers loosing their games, situation is getting worse and worse for this company.

      2. While it is true that a handful of times Resellers have keys that “fell off the back of a truck” or some other version of that, the “Stolen Credit Card” Propaganda is some of the oldest Anti-Reselling Proponents have ever had. It’s like the “Second-hand Sales hurt us!” shtick you keep hearing about from Studios & Publishers alike.

If EbolaSoft had any evidence of this, they’d hand it over to the authorities, not go after People in such a childish, covert & crude way (which if true, will ensure we see the usual Mass-Forum Censorship over the incoming EbolaSoft backslash as well, lol), with no warning of their intentions or a statement to explain them. These people are not cheaters, they just don’t feel paying full-price for a broken half-assed piece of shtick is warranted. That’s Ebola’s problem to deal with, not ours – Well, a sensible company who cares about their Customers wouldn’t go down this route, though that’s not exactly the statement I’d use to describe EbolaSoft, so yeah……

        – Has anyone heard of a Steam Key of Far Cry/Ass Crack being removed? Or can they only identify the people who bought uPlay Keys directly? Just curious, have yet to buy either personally.

In the majority of cases, Resellers usually buy keys/products in bulk from Eastern European/Middle-East/Asian countries at heavily discounted prices, & then resell them online, undercutting the full priced “Official” Stores, & still making their money back. People do the near-exact same thing every time Apple releases a new iPad/iPhone. They queue up, buy 5-10 of them, then turn around & sell them on eBay for 300-500$ more. It’s not illegal, it’s grey market, like ticket scalping. Selling stolen merchandise, or merchandise purchased with a stolen Credit Card is illegal, buying in bulk & reselling is not (technically speaking).

It’s another reason the Eastern European/Middle-East/Asian Countries get most AAA Games after even Europe. The AAA Industry has even made some moves a few times to delay Eastern EU/ME/Asian Releases for up to 6 months in order to “Combat Piracy” & Reselling.

This is just another move in Ebolasoft’s bid for “Worst Company of the Decade.” When they retract their statements & claim this is all just some big misunderstanding, don’t fall for their PR bull.

        1. I’m glad you have those conspiracy theories all ready there.

Ubisoft should in that case, removed a lot more games then they have. Do you see them removing games from accounts on a weekly basis for the past 2 years? The fact is, that these key resellers buy keys of random people, they don’t care how people got them. If you go to g2play and look at history, you’ll see something like this:

          http://i.imgur.com/mKcnO86.png

Some keys, you get directly from them, keys they’ve bought from, let’s say easteren european countries, while others, they’ve just taken of someone else who choose to sell them to them.

Everything isn’t as black and white as you want it to be.

  5. Well my Far Cry 4 cd key hasn’t been removed yet and yeah hopefully wont be. Also I would hate to go back to paying full prices on ubisoft games…

  6. They could have removed the games because someone else tried activating a game with the same CD key only to find it wouldnt work and then complained to Ubisoft support. Im not sure about the sites mentioned but there a few of these CD key websites that have been selling the same keys to more than one person.

Either way Ubisoft dun goofed again.

    1. The websites themselves aren’t stupid enough to sell duplicate CD keys, G2A has a community market where anyone can sell cd-keys, when you’re buying there you have the choice of either buying from G2A knowing you’ll be safe, or getting it for cheaper from some random guy, there are mechanisms to prevent scams, for example the seller will only be able to use the money 7 days after the transaction is complete. So if you got a fake or already used key, you have time to complain and get a refund.

  7. See kids, this is what happens when you buy stolen keys.

inb4 ”hurdy durdy i’ma pirate things”

    Darn, too late.

  8. So after their PC games were a mess crappy port now this ….. (Watch Dogs,FarCry 4)
Also Uplay that its a BS sometimes most of their games works better with Uplay offline.
ACU works good though on my gaming machine!
Ubisoft we PCgamers will help you to dig your grave faster because this is enough pain and humiliation towards us 🙂
