Modder ‘xoxor4d’ has released Update 1.1.7 for his amazing RTX Remix Path Tracing Mod for Grand Theft Auto 4. So, let’s see what this update brings to the table.
Update 1.1.7 adds a PBR material for one type of sidewalk and corner variants. It also adds some road PBR materials (mostly generic asphalt) w/o albedo and a few damaged variants.
Moreover, this new patch fixes the game’s unbreakable sirens. Bar-shaped sirens now have real lights, and firetruck sirens do too. The update also fixes some crashes that happened during certain missions. On top of that, it adds a setting that lets you change how bright the moonlight is. Lastly, it updates the Remix Runtime and fixes some issues with per–draw-call modifiers.
I went ahead and downloaded this new version and tested it. From what I could see, there aren’t any major performance improvements. So, don’t expect to be running on low-tier or mid-tier GPUs. GTA 4 RTX Remix can only be played on high-end GPUs, and that’s with DLSS 4 enabled (this includes Frame Gen).
Not only that, but the cellphone is still bugged. When you open it, strange visual glitches appear, and since the game relies heavily on using your phone, this can get really annoying. This is one of the reasons you shouldn’t jump in just yet. The mod has a lot of potential, but it still needs a lot more work.
But anyway, if you want to try it, you can download it from this link. I also recommend using this HD Texture Pack that was created specifically for the RTX Remix Mod.
If you are into RTX Remix Mods, you can find similar ones for a lot of other titles. For instance, you can find such mods for Black Mesa, Star Wars Republic Commando, NFS: Underground, and Manhunt. You can also find some for BioShock, Morrowind, NFS: Underground 2, Star Wars Jedi Outcast, Max Payne, and Vampire: The Masquerade – Bloodlines.
In January 2024, we shared several RTX Remix Mods that are in the works. As such, you can take a look at screenshots and videos for Tomb Raider 2, Grand Theft Auto: Vice City, Manhunt, and Garfield Kart RTX Remix. Then, in February 2024, we shared videos for Need for Speed: Most Wanted, Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 4, and Midnight Club 2. Be sure to also check out some early RTX Remix videos and screenshots for Fallout: New Vegas, Tom Clancy’s Splinter Cell, COD 2, and Half-Life.
Speaking of Path Tracing Mods for older titles, you might also want to check out the following ones. Modders released demos for their Path Tracing Mods for Deus Ex, Tomb Raider, and Call of Duty 4. Do note that the COD4 Mod is a “proof of concept” demo, and it does not look that great. Let’s also not forget the RTX Remix for COD: WoW. And then we have the RTX Remix Mods for Painkiller and Left 4 Dead 2. Unreal Tournament 2004 and Unreal Gold have also gotten the path-traced treatment. Lastly, you can download these amazing Path Tracing Mods for Doom, Doom 2, Quake, and Serious Sam.
Stay tuned for more!
