NVIDIA has just announced that DLSS 5 will be officially released on September 4th. The first game that will support it will be NBA 2K27. Moreover, the green team has shared some additional details about it. So, let’s dive in.
NVIDIA told us that the performance hit of an official implementation of DLSS 5 in a game will be around 50-60%. I’ve been saying for a long time that for 4K gaming, DLSS 5 will only be useful for owners of an RTX 5090 GPU. So, I guess I was right.
Since March 2026, NVIDIA has been able to improve the performance of DLSS 5 over five times. The team is still working on improving performance and overall optimization. So, things will most likely get better in the coming months.
NVIDIA shared some benchmarks for NBA 2K27. However, I don’t believe these are what most of you will be interested in. The reason I’m saying this is because Multi-Frame Gen was enabled with DLSS 5. So, we don’t really know what the base framerate was.
The good news is that I got access to DLSS 5 and NBA 2K27. The embargo for NBA 2K27 with DLSS 5 will be lifted in a couple of days. Thus, you’ll have to be a bit more patient. Rest assured, though, that I’ll have proper benchmarks for the NVIDIA RTX 5090 at 4K, 1440p, and 1080p.
As I said, NVIDIA DLSS 5 will become available on September 4th. From what I know, the only game that will support it is NBA 2K27. This shouldn’t come as a surprise, as that game was the one that leaked the DLL files for DLSS 5.
It’s also worth noting that you should not judge the performance and visuals of DLSS 5 from the unofficial mods. These mods are cool, but they have visual issues. I’ve noticed major visual flickering and artifacts while quickly moving the camera. So, in case you’re wondering, no. These mods are not representative of an official native implementation.
From what we know so far, these are the first games set to support DLSS 5: AION 2, Assassin’s Creed Shadows, Black State, CINDER CITY, Delta Force, Hogwarts Legacy, Justice, NARAKA: BLADEPOINT, NTE: Neverness to Everness, Resident Evil Requiem, Sea of Remnants, Starfield, The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered, and Where Winds Meet. However, we do not yet know when these games will get their DLSS 5 updates. There is no release date for the patches yet.
Stay tuned for more!

Still, the PC platform won him over consoles. That was mainly due to 3DFX and its iconic dedicated 3D accelerator graphics card, Voodoo 2.
