YouTuber Kane has been sharing videos where he uses AI to improve the old sprites from the classic Mortal Kombat games. And the results will kind of shock you. Honestly, this is what you’d expect from an HD Remaster of the Mortal Kombat Trilogy. So, if you like MK, you should definitely watch the videos.
In these videos, we get to see some characters from all MK1, MK2 and MK3. For the most part, all of them look amazing. Yes, you can easily nitpick some things. But, again. For using AI, the results are truly incredible.
For instance, the AI remaster of Johnny Cage from MK1 looks amazing—until you notice a small beard. The AI mistook a hard line on Cage’s cheek for facial hair. Then there’s Kano’s mask: the MK3 version looks great, but the MK1 version looks pretty bad. On top of that, the AI didn’t even design his shoes.
On the other hand, the MK2 and MK Trilogy remasters of Johnny Cage look spot on. Sonya also looks incredible. Same goes for Jax. I also like Liu Kang from MK3, though he is not THAT accurate. But my God. What have they done to Sindel? I was also a bit disappointed with Shao Kahn and Sub-Zero.
All in all, for the most part, these AI videos can give us a glimpse at what modern-day remasters of these classic MK games could look like. And you know what? I wouldn’t mind AT ALL if NetherRealm used similar tools to remaster the first Mortal Kombat games.
There were attempts to remaster MK1, MK2 and MK3. Sadly, though, those projects were canceled. In 2018, Eyeballistic wanted to make an HD remake of the first three Mortal Kombat games. They planned to create all-new 3D models for the characters. Unfortunately, Warner Bros rejected that pitch. Then, in 2021, Eyeballistic announced it would try again to get Warner Bros to approve their project.
Since then, its CEO has been sharing some AI images from the first MK games. From what I know, there are still no plans for a remastered trilogy of the MK games. And, in case you’re wondering, no. The Mortal Kombat: Legacy Kollection will not have games that will look THIS good.
All in all, this is exactly what a lot of Mortal Kombat would love to see. Full HD remasters of the classic MK games. So, let’s hope that Warner Bros will finally greenlight such an attempt.

To me, generative AI is just like a dumpster machine located just next to your home's recycle bin; you put whatever thing you want that isn't yours (like an already established game, movie, comic, etc.), enter whatever prompt you can think of in that dumpster machine even it's full of errors, typos, and other things that make you sound like a complete buffoon because you didn't even bother thinking about it that much, and then when you tell it to generate stuff, that dumpster machine generates some weird and uncanny-looking material (or "image/video" in the case of AI), and it's not per how YOU imagined it would be, it's per how the AI imagined it (completely manipulated based on its algorithms and filled with Jewish AIDS and Monkeypox. Jews are the biggest pushers of mandatory AI FYI.) and RUINS your actual perception of what you originally wanted or even intended to create.

In continuation and amplification on my statement that AI "art" isn't actually real art, do you know Pixiv? It's the largest Japanese art site, and there are so many very high quality arts there, particularly fan arts of a popular work (game, anime, etc.). When I see the difference between a Japanese artist and a Western artist, the difference in quality between them feels like the difference between the sky and the earth on how the Japanese artists are far ahead of the overwhelming majority of Western artists and how Western artists' art in general is very low quality in comparison, because most of these Westerners are actually faggots and trannies or at the very least love and worship these subhumans, and their "art" is actually SO dogshit that even calling it "art" is an insult to actual art.
So what does Pixiv have to do with this? These people who make fan arts do it for completely free and in their free time, while official media is mostly paid, because these artists get paid to do it and because it's their job to do it, so if you don't put in some effort, you're not gonna sell well and risking your company going bankrupt.
2. Did I say that absolutely ALL Westerners are talentless hack jobs with absolutely not even a single exception? No, in fact, there are actually good Western artists, but they aren't as many when it comes to fan arts. As a rule of life, there's no such thing as "ALL [group of people] are [bad name]!", it's the language of the ignorant, and not only the language of the ignorant, but also the language of extremists. I think my problem with ue5 demos is they never actually produce fully functional games, they are demos, demos that will never be made into full games.

This is extremely cool, however many caveats we could point out like the inaccurate faces and other details, f*ck it, it's extremely cool.
As a kid i only dreamt of seeing these characters i loved so much in such beautiful detail while being pretty much perfectly faithful, while all we could have were these kinda 200×100 stretched sprites… and here we are 30 years later. Not some cosplay, not a terrible movie costume, not an illustration, pretty much the real deal. And in smooth motion. You can even consider that not even the original actual pictures and video used for digitalization are this high definition. God i love AI for upscaling, restoration and frame interpolation. Ahhh… I'm so happy.
Yeah AI is cool for upscaling but these are just concepts, i will actually be glad if it was a genuine texture pack but it's not. These concepts are polluting Youtube because they're easy to generate and they don't need any other attention, there's no artistic intent behind it, no genuine work and as i said earlier it's not even some practical texture pack that i can use.
I wouldn't be frustrated. I'd say AI is being tested on and on to see where it's at each day, dozens of models, tools and iterations, by tons of people, because it's moving sooo fast. It wasn't this capable even 1 or 2 years ago.
