AMD RDNA4 AIBs GPUs

AMD confirmed that it will launch its RDNA4 GPUs in Early March

AMD fans, get ready as the red team is about ready to launch its new RDNA4 GPUs. As its CEO, Dr. Lisa Su, said during a recent Q4 2024 earnings call, AMD plans to release the Radeon RX 9070 (and most likely the RX 9070XT too) in early March 2024.

As Dr. Lisa Su specifically said:

“In Gaming Graphics, revenue declined year-over-year, as we accelerated channel sellout in preparation for the launch of our next-gen Radeon 9000 series GPUs. Our focus with this generation is to address the highest volume portion of the enthusiast gaming market with our new RDNA 4 architecture. RDNA 4 delivers significantly better ray tracing performance and add support for AI-powered upscaling technology that will bring high-quality 4K gaming to mainstream players when the first Radeon 9070 series GPUs go on sale in early March.”

So there you have it everyone, straight from the horse’s mouth. The new RDNA4 GPUs will come out in early March. My guess is that we can expect them in the first week of March. Or at least that’s what makes sense to me.

A rumor suggests that we might see these new GPUs on March 6th. If this leak is legit, we will most likely get the reviews for them a week or a day before their release. I also expect some benchmarks to leak ahead of the reviews.

The AMD Radeon RX 9070 and RX 9070XT will compete with the upcoming NVIDIA RTX 5070 and RTX 5070Ti. So, it will be interesting to see how they will fare against them.

AMD also stated that its RDNA4 GPUs will have better RT performance. So, will AMD be able to compete with NVIDIA in ray-traced games? And what about Path Tracing?

It’s a shame AMD will not release a high-end model. I don’t know if anything has changed, but AMD’s strategy for its RDNA4 GPUs is to focus on the mid-tier category. So, I’m curious to see how the red team will price these GPUs.

In theory, the AMD Radeon RX 9070 and RX 9070XT should provide a better price/performance value than their NVIDIA rivals. After all, that’s the main reason why AMD delayed their announcement (and their reveal).

Stay tuned for more!

  1. This needs to be no more than 399 USD for the stock 9070XT if they want to shake up the market. Otherwise most people will just pay the extra $50-80 to get the RTX 5070 that has a bigger feature set and has the nvidia branding attached to it. And if it's priced the same as the 5070, it's dead in the water.

    1. itll definitely shake up the market and I think its such a low cost for what is promised that it would be crazy not to buy one off the strength. I just think a lot of the time people still only want AMD to provide competition or disrupt the market to goad NVidia into lowering prices so that they can buy a cheaper NVidia GPU.

      1. I agree entirely. It's infuriating that the majority think like this. However, I think in this situation AMD could hold the advantage if they've got lots of stock to sell because I doubt nvidia will have a whole lot on day one. Maybe not quite as sparse as the 5090 but still likely won't be widely available. And if I remember correctly some retailers already have 9070 cards in stock. If they price and market this right they could have a real winner on their hands.

  2. I think I've reached the point where has to be some push back or realization about what the 9070XT should be priced at. Large amounts of people claim to not care about RT or Upscaling but we see that even when AMD beats the competition at raster price to performance people still exceedingly pick Nvidia. Now even in a hypothetical best case scenario where the 9070XT is approaching the capability of a 4080S, boasting an improved ML based Upscaling Solution and RT performance, it kinda feels fantastical that people are still saying it can't cost more than $500. I think it would be great and would surprise me if this was the case but I think it more just shows that people don't want AMD to be competitive to buy AMD, they want AMD to be competitive to make Nvidia cheaper.

    1. An improved AI upscaling? First you have to actually have a working AI upscaling before you can improve it. Sure the 7000 series had AI Cores but they don't do a damned thing but take up die space.

Granted actually working AI Cores is an improvement over the completely broken AI Cores in the 7000 series

      1. Youre right about the improved upscaling. Im not saying they will be for a fact improved or better and I don’t think it will be the case either. I think im just more speaking to people who seem to say that even if the card is a decent value, has much improved metrics across the board and somehow has feature parity with the 50 series, it should still be sold at a discount of the 5070 no matter what. I’d appreciate a great value like that as well but I just don’t think its a realistic place for the conversation to be had if you cant even hypothetically see a better card costing even a relative amount more.

  3. man, AMD just focus on CPUs, you guys clearly are failing at delivering proper GPUs that can compete against Nvidia. Its unfortunate though but it is what it is.

    1. Yeah, all while nvidia is only interested in ai and the next quarter earnings and it shows both in price and lack luster performance gen on gen. We need more competition or PC gaming will take a big hit tanks to the lack of competition… that cause stagnation and higher prices

  4. It's doubtful AMD will be able to compete with Nvidia at Ray Tracing. No doubt they will be better than the 7000 series but they are likely to be a generation behind and on par with Nvidia 4000 series.

The real question is will they be able to make their AI Cores work this time around or are consumers going to pay extra for something that does nothing but take up die space like the AI Cores in the 7000 series?

  5. If they're competitive I may consider them as an upgrade to my 3080. I've never owned an AMD card, and Nvidia's pricing and VRAM stinginess has just gotten absurd.

    1. That won't be until mid 2026 most likely. And chances are, rdna4 and udna will coexist for a while as udna will be for very high end and rdna4 will be mid-high.

  6. Mmm this launch smells sooo fishy, being so delayed and silent about performance and price…

If they have competitive real performance besides multi frame gen, they could just say it, price it nicely, and enjoy a winner. Why haven't they? idk.
