Skyrim Riften in Unreal Engine 5

The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim’s Riften in Unreal Engine 5 with Lumen and Nanite looks unbelievably beautiful

Leo Torres has created an amazing video that shows the real size of Skyrim’s city, Riften, in Unreal Engine 5. The video will give you an idea of what a Skyrim remake could look like in Unreal Engine 5. That’s never going to happen. I mean, Bethesda won’t ever drop the Creation Engine. Still, this is something that looks really amazing. So, let’s take a look at it.

To create this project, the artist used a mix of third-party models and custom assets modelled in Blender, textured in Mixer. Moreover, he used Nanite for all models and foliage. Plus, Lumen was used for global illumination and reflections.

For those unaware, The Real Scale Skyrim series is a project to show what Tamriel’s cities would look like if they were more realistic and true to the game’s lore. Torres has also recreated MarkarthBlackreachWhiterunSolitudeWinterhold, Falkreath, and Morthal.

Do note that this isn’t in real-time. Instead, the area was rendered out on an NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3090. So, I don’t believe this is possible in real-time. My guess is that with some optimizations, though, we could get close to it. But that’s just an assumption. Still, this looks cool so be sure to check it out.

Now I know what some of you may be wondering. Will TES6 be able to match these visuals? The answer is most likely no. Unless, of course, TES6 only targets next-gen platforms, like PS6 and the next Xbox. However, this is Bethesda we’re talking about. So yeah, it seems unlikely.

Speaking of Unreal Engine 5, you should also check out the following fan projects. For instance, you can find some faithful remasters of Dark Souls and Dark Souls 3, which are super cool. A few months ago, we also shared an amazing remake of Toy Story 2. Then there’s this fantastic fan remake of STALKER that’s worth a look. Then there’s this fantastic fan remake of STALKER that’s worth a look. Oh, and don’t miss the Grand Theft Auto 6 fan concept in UE5; it’s pretty impressive. You should also watch the full-on remake video for Final Fantasy 9, and this HD-2D Fan Remake for Xenogears.

  1. "Will TES6 be able to match these visuals?" you're not asking the right question. the better question is" Will TES9 be able to load interiors without loading screen?"

  2. All Unreal Engine games look the same, soulless.

Every idíot can now take some assets and make realistic looking graphics. The result is that realistic graphics are no longer impressive.

We're at a point where Nintendo's cell shaded graphics meant to run on a potato are more impressive than Unreal Engine graphics.

I knew this point would come, where realistic graphics no longer impress, but represent the mundane, the lazy asset flip, the amateur.

All this data needed to make a hyper realistic looking world and no one gives a damn about the video, just like no one bought those hyper realistic body cam shooters. Realistic graphics are now a soulless photograph, no one cares about hyperrealism, and that's bad news for Unreal and hardware makers.

    1. Never gonna happen! He gets paid for promotion this junk. It is what it is. Man's gotta eat, but it's still annoying.

  3. UE5 has this look to it that is hard to hide. All game from UE looks similar unless you are actually a AAA studio that has talented devs, like Wuthering waves. That game barely has stutters and looks great with cell shaded artstyle.

  4. Now I know what some of you may be wondering. Will TES6 be able to match these visuals?

The thing that I'm wondering isn't whether ES VI will look really good. It's whether the game will be worth playing or will it be yet another installment of boring failures going by their last few releases? Will it even be possible to save it with mod support later on?

I expect it will still make money for Bethesda anyway because gaming mainstream media will hype it to the moon and also gamers will see the name Elder Scrolls and think of Skyrim. There may be an internet full of buyer's remorse shortly after release just like with Starfield.

  5. We might get a TES game that looks that good in the year 2040 at the earliest. The next game sure won't come close to resembling it and it's now been 13 years since Skyrim was released.

  6. From up above it looks off because the "copy and paste" building design But once on the ground it looks great
