Modder ‘Hezus’ has announced a complete overhaul mod for the original Half-Life game, called Half-Life: Enriched. In addition, the modder has shared some screenshots that you can find below.
According to its description, Half-Life: Enriched aims to rework all of the original Half-Life maps in the single-player campaign. Since this mod will rework all of the maps, it will cut down on the loading mid-points by merging maps together. This will get rid of many of the issues surrounding the loading points. Additionally, it may open up new possibilities for gameplay.
Half-Life: Enriched will be also using AI-upscaling techniques in order to enhance the original textures. Furthermore, it will pack over 250 new texture variants.
Players can also expect completely reworked lighting effects. According to the modder, nearly all lights now rely on much more realistic texture lighting and have soft glow effects.
Lastly, all original models will receive an update to their texture resolution and poly count, while retaining their original 1998 style.
There is currently no ETA on when Half-Life: Enriched will come out. And as always, we’ll be sure to keep you posted.
Enjoy the screenshots!

We already got Black Mesa.
Eh, Black Mesa is more like a reimagining using a different engine and tech than Half-Life. This is the original game, original feel and mechanics, just with updated textures. Not to be compared with Black Mesa, I don’t even consider that Half-Life, although it is amazing and stays true to the story, it does not feel like Half-Life, it feels like Half-Life 2
No its not. Black Mesa is literally this but better.
You need to look what literally means. Valve made a game called Half Life. That’s it. This is a mod made by some group of fans that’s changing everything from the engine to the levels to the AI to the weapons.
It’s not better, it’s not worse. It’s a different game and it will NEVER be Half Life. It’s not even called that, it’s Black Mesa
When was the last time you played these games?
I don’t see the logic in that statement. Like most other remakes that are made from the ground up they often differentiate from the original source material in many ways. As cliched as it may sound it’s like comparing apples to oranges.
I think the option of being able to access both is a great thing because there is a nostalgic factor to many of these old classics which is impossible to replace in my opinion. Some remakes like Destroy All Humans! and its sequel are a rare examples of when I consider remakes to be significantly better than the originals. They introduced a better art style and improved every single animation. The voices, soundtrack and all that remained intact so it managed to maintain the nostalgic appeal to it.
As far as I’m aware Black Mesa is a re-imagining, not a remake. So saying one is better than the other is kinda redundant. The Resident Evil remakes/re-imaginings are not superior to the originals purely because they’re drastically different from the original games.
Great work, really good-looking sharp textures. I will stick with the old school myself but feel this might entice new players to give this masterpiece a shot.
I’m going to continue to wait for the ray-tracing mod someone was working on
But Half-Life black Mesa already exists…

Aaand this is what i always wanted to see; same engine, very same-ish HL1 look and feel, just sharper AI enhanced textures and slightly higher poly character/enemy models.
Keep the feel, just dust it off a bit.
It has already been done. There’s something called “Half-Life ReSrced” which looks the exact same.
For Source, there’s “Half-Life Source Remastered Edition”, which looks more or less the same.
Half life mods needs to come bundled with Brutal half life mod, shame that few mods are compatible.
