Tencent will officially now lead the development of System Shock 3

OtherSide Entertainment has just announced that Tencent will now lead the development of System Shock 3. Tencent will be the main team working on it, with OtherSide Entertainment providing additional help.

As OtherSide noted, it had been challenging to develop System Shock 3 on its own. Thus, the team decided to partner with Tencent in order to complete it.

To be honest, this announcement does not really surprise us. After all, System Shock 3 has been in development hell. In February 2019, we reported that its main team was no longer working on it.

Do note that this won’t affect in any way the development of System Shock Remake. After all, Nightdive is working on that game and not OtherSide. So yeah, Tencent won’t have anything to do with that remake.

System Shock 3 will be a first-person action game in which players are free to play and explore how they want. Players can become hackers, stealth specialists, melee masters, or other classes. Players will also uncover the mysteries of the space ship that’s been taken over by the evil AI, SHODAN.

Stay tuned for more!

    1. Nightdive still owns the franchise. They licensed the IP to OtherSide Entertainment so they could make System Shock 3 and Tencent has only acquired that license to fund the game. This means that Otherside Entertainment ran out of money at some point of the development which is no wonder when you look at their track record.

Also Tencent has funded (and also published) games that are not Epic Store exclusives. If SS3 turns out to be crap people should point their fingers to Otherside Entertainment, they’re the ones messing things since Underworld Ascendant crowdfunding.

I’m not a fan of Tencent but people should get their facts straight before spreading misinformation since it only leads to more unnecessary anger and other idiotism.

      1. Yep, that’s one reason why this site is full of frustrated and angry gamers, but I guess it’s good for them to have atleast one place where they can vent some steam.

  1. I believe System Shock have funding problem hence the Tencent takeover. This will mean the game will become a reality at least just as long as they don’t shove micro-transactions and other shady practice

  2. Never had any hope for this unlike the Remake, this is just the final nail in the coffin
Another Rune 2 in the making
