Cyberpunk 2077 is scheduled for release on April 16th, while Half-Life: Alyx is releasing somewhere in March. In a recent earnings call, Michal Andrzej Nowakowski, Senior VP in CD Projekt Red , was asked if he is worried about Half-Life: Alyx being a highly anticipated release and pulling gamers away from Cyberpunk 2077.
He responded by saying that VR holds a very, very small part of the market. Which is probably correct, since according to Steam Hardware & Software Survey of October 2019, just over 1% of users are using a VR headset.
“VR remains an extremely nichey niche of the market, like it’s very, very small.That niche is very, very, very — and I could add a few verys here — small.” Michal Andrzej Nowakowski
Honestly, I don’t think Half-Life: Alyx will affect the sales of Cyberpunk 2077. Maybe if both games were releasing in the same month, but they don’t. Also Half-Life: Alyx will be a rather expensive purchase for anyone who doesn’t already own a VR headset.

Judging from the trailer the game looks pretty nice and will probably be a cool experience for VR owners. Personally, I was hoping for a Half-Life 3.

Exactly. At this point any VR title equals a niche market and has nothing to with or compete with anything other than other VR titles. Stand alone traditional games are totally different, if be like comparing The House of the Dead 2 on the Dreamcast(which is a light gun game) with Dead Island Remastered on the PC.
Man it feels bad that they did not just go for remakes of HL1, 2, ep 1 and ep 2 in Source 2 that would look equal to Alyx quality plus they would remove the loading screens in the games. I bet if they had done that and it be for PC, Xbox One, PS4 and coming soon to PS5 and Xbox Two they would sell like 500 million units at a full AAA price easily. Also that would pre juice up people, satisfy them and they could take their time and plan out HL3(for real). At that point they be considered legendary 4LIF3 within the gaming community.
I am still bitter about the whole thing 🙁 . I guess that be too easy or logical, am happy for the VR users though but that is about it. I wonder how many of us where like “but we wanted Half Life 3… we have been saying that for decades or at least a new traditional game in the series….” LOL I bet they where like “don’t you have VR?”.

I get that, can respect that and that is cool and all but we still don’t have Half Life 3 🙁 .
Take even the new Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order and all the other games that have come out since Episode 2, I am sure Valve could of had a plan by now of what Half Life 3 could be or should be.
I just have a really hard time to understand why they have not made 3 or cherry picked the remasters like Resident Evil 2 did or a Devil Mat Cry 5 reboot did and others that have been awesome. Having said that I have not played the VR game and it could be mind blowing and innovative over other VR games. Still I am sure they could of come up with something for HL3 by now. So it’s feels a lot like Diablo Immortal but on high end hardware spectrum not mobile.
Just a really hard pill to swallow when your given a VR game after all these years and from the video it’s just looks like a really nice VR HL game. Will see hey, could be mind blowing if your into VR, who knows.
In My case I rather have a traditional game over it since I am not into VR. I guess it is what it is.
Portal Game is way better in VR… But Valve is pure evil.
Valve said they wanted to make a portal game in VR but that they didn’t want to make people sick.
I can only imagine how bad the motion sickness would have been in that game where you can’t have the “teleporting around” as an option for movement because if you did then it would defeat the purpose of the entire game.

It’s a shame we don’t hear more about Dying Light 2 rather than Half-Life: Alyx since it is releasing in 2020 as well.
Even if Alyx was a conventional game I still be more interested in Dying Light 2. Same deal with Cyberpunk 2077, I take CP2077 over Alyx any day it’s not even a question even if it’s really cool to see a new Half Life game.
I know it’s Valve and all but I think they get a little too much respect where others should instead. Sort of odd someone would even ask if they where “worried about Half-Life: Alyx”. If it was Half Life 3, multi platform, it’s video looked insane, was the same scope and type of game as CP2077 then that would 100% make sense but in this case it doesn’t.
Both games will do well but I bet money CP2077 will easily have ten times the sales over Alyx at the minimum, to Me it’s not even going to be close. When you have: PC, Xbox One, PS4, PS5 and Xbox Two versus PC VR it doesn’t even seem fair to compare the two. PS4 alone has 100 million plus users, so yeah.
Indeed, playing without VR is more relaxing.

Aside from the first screen (which was released in 2013), the other three you posted are not official concept art, but fan-made/pinterest artist’s work. Just like the Cyberpunk2077 Ciri in latex bikini screenshot: it’s not official.

I answered telling you the 2nd, 3rd and 4th screens are pulled out of some artitst’s a** and are not related to the game (not official concept art)…which means CDPR never had that vision to begin with.

CP2077 will get sale boost from its console ports even if it underperforms on PC because Alyx is for PCs only. Good to see 2 big computer games releasing back to back.
Technically it’s not a “PC game” If you don’t have VR headset you can’t play the game, so HL: Alyx is for VR only. Have a good day. VR & Graphic Cards are not the same thing.
And they shouldn’t be either. VR is the deciding factor. It’s obvious that headset haven’t sold nearly enough to make Alyx a threat. It’s just not in the numbers. If that fact hurts your little heart for VR, well, too bad, because that’s just the truth of it.
On a side note, what CDPR “should” be concerned about, is how “woke” their game goes. Has it crossed the line already? Hard to say, but they don’t have much room left to push the limits any further.

They should be slightly concerned. Cyberpunk 2077 might end up getting slightly lower scores since Half-Life: Alyx will still be fresh in the critics minds when Cyberpunk 2077 will be reviewed and as a result win less GOTY awards because of Half-Life: Alyx.
HL-Alyx has simply been made to shift their overpriced VR headsets it’s so damn obvious.
