NVIDIA GeForce Hotfix Driver 397.55 released, fixes GTX1060 crashing issues

Last month, NVIDIA released a new driver for its graphics card, the NVIDIA GeForce 397.31 WHQL. Among other things, that driver came with a developer preview for NVIDIA RTX ray tracing technology for DirectX 12, as well as official support for Vulkan 1.1. However, it was reported that this driver introduced some crashing issues in systems equipped with the NVIDIA GeForce GTX1060 graphics card. And thankfully, the green team released a new hotfix that addresses these issues.

According to its changelog, the NVIDIA GeForce Hotfix Driver 397.55 resolves the Code 43 error reports that some users were receiving on a few GTX 1060 cards models, fixes the occasional stutter issues with Netflix playback, adds support for Microsoft Surface Book notebooks and fixes a bug that could remove the driver after the PC has been left idle for an extended period of time.

Those interested can download the hotfix from here.

    1. It’s a ‘BETA version’ driver, it is optional, and provided as-is. This hotfix is in beta stage.

Unless you are facing the above mentioned issues, which this driver addresses, you DON’T have to install this Hotfix.

Wait for the next WHQL certified driver. This is for those users who are in urgent need to fix the issues as outlined in the driver notes.

Where does it says, it’s dated 07/12/2017 ?

      1. It says it’s from 2017 in GeForce experience if you install it. It seems to list details and hotfixes for games of a driver that came out in 2017.

        1. Okay, thanks for the reply.

But I think that might be a mistake, or a bug with the software GFE, imo. Don’t use GeForce experience to get any info.

The correct way to check any system’s info, including driver’s version would be DXDIAG, or use any tool like Speccy, GPU-Z, or HWiNFO.

  1. I was having this same problem with my Aorus 1060 after the April win 10 update. this sucks. PC will suddenly freeze and hang. tried too many thing but didn’t work.
    hope this will work

  2. I was getting serious BSOD’s left and right on the 397.31 release that made me first think that my CPU overclock had become unstable because of the WHEA error the kernel was encountering. it was actually this f-‘ing driver. I spent all night retweaking my voltages, only to find that on stock settings, the BSOD still happened. Went back to 391.35 for now and all problems are gone. By the way, I have a 1080 Ti, not a 1060 so this shouldn’t have been a known issue.
