During its Holiday Special 2017 event, Cloud Imperium has finally showcased the single-player part of Star Citizen, Squadron 42. As always, do note that this gameplay footage is from a pre-alpha WIP build and does not represent the quality of the final product.
Right from the start, we get to see the amazing station and its stunning attention to detail that Cloud Imperium has created. Moreover, we get to see some really impressive lip-syncing, incredibly detailed character models and gorgeous visuals. However, we can’t overlook the really awful walking animations of pretty much all NPCs.
Cloud Imperium showcased one hour of gameplay footage from Squadron 42 and below you can find its video from TwitchTV (gameplay footage starts at 32:30). This one-hour gameplay footage features cut-scenes, exploration, space combat as well as first-person firefights.
Squadron 42 looks really promising, though as you will see it needs a lot of work. As said, this is pre-alpha gameplay footage which means that the final product may differ from what has been shown during this event.
Furthermore, we don’t expect to see Squadron 42 anytime soon. Cloud Imperium’s Steve Bender said that this is still early stage stuff, so we might be looking at a game that will come out in 2019 or 2020.
But anyway, enjoy Squadron 42’s gameplay footage and stay tuned for more!

Oh . Sorry . I guess all thos single player games on steam greenlight are fake .
how about think before you comment and then you dont have to correct your self and call ppl *trolls* ok ?
Even after this game comes out, idiots will claim it’s still vaporware.
What makes you think this game is coming out? 😉
his mentally challenged brain filled with fanboyism
Well, cant fault him for dreaming.
Says that biach with a*s pumped with plasti…
Get a life low class troll.
What makes you think it’s not? While there’s been delays, they’ve shown consistent progress.
Looks incredible I cant wait to play it.
I need this game in my life 🙂 This looks phenomenal! but i hope this player camera and movement isn’t final.
This is the sort of game that makes me want to buy new hardware!
You should well be able to save enough in time for its “release” in 5-10 years.
Try harder troll 😉
SC makes it easy.
I already have enough, I am just waiting for a game or games to push the hardware like the old days.
All we see now is console ports that run on potatoes!
HAHA, I’ll believe it when I see it running as an actual cohesive experience and it isnt a complete f*cking mess. Until that time, Lick My Nuts Star Citizen.
Wonder if anyone can lick nuts as well as you lick Smarts 😉
sounds like you want to give it a shot. 😉
what an absolute f`king garbage didn’t justify those insane system requirement looks like a game from few years ago looks so fake biggest scam in the entire gaming industry
He’s a multi-forum troll. Just look up any mention of Denuvo anywhere and he’s there defending how great it is and pirates suck etc..etc.. It’s fine having a difference of opinion, but he’s the only Disqus user I’ve blocked because he adds nothing to any discussion other than trollbait.
I don’t think he honestly believes the drivel he spews here. He just takes a contrary position to whatever the popular opinion is to draw attention to himself. If Denuvo were accepted like Steam’s DRM is accepted then he would be against Denuvo most likely.
it will never be released, they already have too much money…
Do explain the reference and relation.
wish they had focused on finishing squadron 42 first because the wait is going to be difficult.
They are, but much of the tech needed for Squadron 42 is stuff that they’re developing for Star Citizen.
I don’t think this game is vaporware but what if by the time this game releases, it’s irrelevant? I don’t know much about the game (not into the genre) but who’s to say people will even care in that time.
Not to mention the devs aren’t even experienced as this is their first game.
The devs didn’t just materialize out of nowhere. Chris Roberts put out the biggest budgeted games ever(at the time) and pioneered facets of game design.
His brother, who runs the largest studio under CIG, was the Studio Director for all the lego games, as well as working on the Wing Commander series with Chris.
A new game development studio doesn’t mean that the people running it have no experience running studios. It’s pretty standard for people to leave companies and start a new one.
Yeah you are right. I looked at it from the wrong pov.
That’s been what I’ve thought for years. Roberts is without a doubt talented and creative but he’s unfit to manage a project without supervision imo. He doesn’t have the will to resist making just that one more change to improve the game just a little more. That kind of thinking can go on and on forever and the game delayed again and again.
Yeah it’s basically a slippery slope.
Looks beautiful, even in pre-alpha phase. It’s pretty much turning out to be the game I’ve always wanted to play since I first completed ME1 and HL2. Although I can already see how this won’t appeal to everyone. Was watching the whole event live with a few others and some lost interest real quick due to the pacing. They much prefer more linear, cinematic experiences you get out of games like CoD and Uncharted. I know in the finished product there’ll be plenty of things to do during the lobby areas in-between missions. But even then I know plenty of people won’t have that patience for it.
All in all tho I really do think this is the exclusive PC gamers need. Not so much the MOBA, F2P or arena based shooters stuff we’re getting too much of right now. After seeing this I’m more than happy to wait a little longer for the final build of SQ42. I genuinely do want this game to not compromise on a lot of things quite like many multiplatform titles that come out these days do.
Different opinion? You have an obsession.
