Now here is something that caught everyone off guard. Intel and AMD have announced that they are working together on a new laptop chip. Intel will be providing the CPU chip, whereas AMD will be providing the GPU chip.
As AMD’s press release reads, the red team has designed a semi-custom graphics processor unit (GPU) that will be integrated into a new Intel multi-chip processor package. The new product, designed by Intel, integrates an Intel Core processor, semi-custom Radeon graphics chip, and second generation High Bandwidth Memory (HBM2) into a single package.
Scott Herkelman, vice president and general manager, AMD Radeon Technologies Group, said:
“Our collaboration with Intel expands the installed base for AMD Radeon GPUs and brings to market a differentiated solution for high-performance graphics. Together, we are offering gamers and content creators the opportunity to have a thinner-and-lighter PC capable of delivering discrete performance-tier graphics experiences in AAA games and content creation applications. This new semi-custom GPU puts the performance and capabilities of Radeon graphics into the hands of an expanded set of enthusiasts who want the best visual experience possible.”
Intel expects the new product to launch in the first quarter of 2018.
There is nothing more to add here. This is perhaps the first time we’re seeing Intel working closely with AMD. Our guess is that AMD decided to work with Intel in order to rival NVIDIA in a pretty unorthodox way. Whether this new collaboration will pay off remains to be seen!

Still, the PC platform won him over consoles. That was mainly due to 3DFX and its iconic dedicated 3D accelerator graphics card, Voodoo 2. No complaints here. If nothing else, it’s another revenue source for AMD, and a pretty big one at that.
I’d love if AMD paid more attention to the higher end areas, than the lower end.
They can’t really compete in the higher end; they don’t have the resources to do so. But that’s okay because there’s a huge consumer base in the low and mid-tier hardware market.
And that’s why I’ll continue to support the higher end market and ignore the low end one.
It’s good that someone is actually paying attention to the high end market though, rather than ignoring it for years and years.
“mindshare”.
DO you know what gaming related years are like in any way?.
I played Wrath of the Lich King back in 08, that was a long time ago, sure to the casual mind it may feel like a near decade ago, but it’s still a long time in gaming years.
Yea and that’s probably in their best interest. Catchig up to Nvidia would make them bleed so much money and Nvidia would just slam another refresh 4months down the road just to go claim the crown again. I’m glad i’m with nvidia but mind you, everytime i pay, (1300$txs inc, CDN) i’m pissed because they know they can get away with these prices in the high end.
Neither am I when it comes to the constant usage of “mindshare”, like that one guy who kept spamming “MS is astroturfing”.
It doesn’t matter if they are niche, people still want them and people still buy them.
I find it both a folly and ignorant for any AMD fanboy to try to turn it around from “high end doesn’t matter” to “low end is where it’s at”.
I’m not sure that where the money is but i’d love it too.
If we look at any industry, casuals are where the money is, yet we have money being poured and made from enthusiast areas as well.
Look at the car industry, plenty of folk around the world spend a ton on enthusiast cars. Same goes to the art industry, with plenty buying expensive pieces of high quality works of art.
Low effort can earn you money, but so can high levels of effort as well.
Sure but in the case of GPUs i’m somewhat certain that mid range to low range are where the most of gamers are and TitanXs are alone. But even there, we’d have to agree on what is enthusiastic and what is low/mid/high range.
Again, any market you look at, those that don’t want to pay a lot, greatly outweigh those that want to pay more.
Would you love it if you had the dream option of not paying more for anything?, if your answer is yes then you fill the checklist of anyone on this earth that would gladly join the less paying group of people.
Rich people will pay high for what they want, casual low spenders will want to spend less, and this world has far more poor and low paid folk than they do rich.
“mindshare”?
AMD has always lost at the high end market. It’s just not profitable for them to compete with nVidia in that market.
It just means they have to try harder. Nvidia aren’t godlike, and AMD isn’t trying hard enough.
Well, he didn’t try hard enough and now he’s walking the walk.
I dont. Not anyone has your money.
I’m not minted either. I took up on the usual advice, passed down century after century, called “saving up”.
it’s a good thing they’re working on a notebook chip since PC gaming is dying.
desktop*
free to play microtransaction subscriptions is pc gaming all about cause single player is available on your fav torrent site
yeah dude, consoles for life.
Oh, laptops…
I was hoping for something more relevant and important, rather than a slightly better laptop, that could possibly be thinner, but still cannot hold a flicker of a candle towards a custom gaming rig.
I’ll stick with my desktop, thanks.
LOL.
nope not beating nvidia nvidia is unbeatable nice try though
No complaints here. If nothing else, it’s another revenue source for AMD, and a pretty big one at that.
F**k off!
???
Oh but of course YOU wouldn’t understand, this just further proves how dumb you really are. Lmao.
LOL. So this is what a rabid jackal looks like.
Go figure indian boy…
edit; you actually really did upvote that comment but totally missed the point of my reply above. So sad being that stupid.
You’ve gone full troll haven’t you? Congratulations.
Haha this is so amusing. The irony is through the roof here. I mean, I responded to a troll and now you actually think that I am trolling, lmfao. Did you leave most of your braincells back in India? 😀
“No complaints here. If nothing else, it’s another revenue source for AMD, and a pretty big one at that.” TIL that this is trolling.
Don’t try to roast people on brain cells when you have none to begin with.
Ahahaha really?
You still haven’t figured it out yet? Wow!
This is fun, I’ll provide you with more hints then:
Hint 1: Why was his comment a troll comment? Not because of the actual content of his post but something else.
Hint 2: You upvoted a comment.
I know I upvoted the same comment. I did that knowingly.
I don’t see how saying what someone else has already said warrants a “F**k off!”.
You keep thinking that I haven’t gotten that part yet and that I’m some kind of fool. The sad truth is that you couldn’t even realize that I was already two steps ahead of you.
Now in your own words grow some braincells and “F**k off!”
Ahahaha, nice comeback. You realized your mistake and went on to do damage control right away. Such a classic!
If a veteran user with nearly 3000 posts and over 9000 upvotes makes a great comment that gets lots of upvotes, then some newly registered peasant user with 27 comments copy that entire comment and post it again a moment later, I think it’s safe to say that classifies as a troll comment. But you’re just a stupid boy with a very skew view on things so I won’t really expect you to understand that neither.
I so dearly hoped you would have taken my advice and swum back to India to sell your a$$ or something similar. You’re a waste of air.
Dude. I was fully aware of my upvote. Stop thinking it’s a mistake.
You are not as smart as you think you are. Get over it.
