Splinter Cell: Blacklist – PC Performance Analysis

Splinter Cell Blacklist v3

Splinter Cell: Blacklist has just been released, so it’s time to see whether Ubisoft has learner its lesson with Assassin’s Creed III PC or not. And we are happy to report that Blacklist performs better than most triple-A titles. Truth be told, the game is based on Unreal Engine 2.5 (yeah, you read that right. It’s not even UE3). However, Ubisoft has managed to optimize its title better than any other title and as a result of that, we finally see a performance difference between tri-cores and quad-cores. To be honest, Blacklist may be one of the few games – at this point – that benefits from quad-core CPUs, so kudos to the French company. Black Desert Online – Gameplay Trailer #2

Black Desert Online
Pearl Abyss has released a new gameplay trailer for its upcoming MMORPG – that may also come to PS4 and Xbox One – Black Desert Online. Black Desert is said to be a large scale sandbox MMORPG that provides you a variety of unique experiences with spectacular action and battle, strategy-oriented castle attack, sophisticated simulation contents such as trade, NPC-hiring and real-estate management. The following trailer looks great – for an MMO – but suffers from a really low LOD system. Here is hoping that Pearl Abyss will give us the option to tweak this setting to our liking. Enjoy! Unity Engine Gets Unofficial Voxel Cone Tracing – Global Illumination – Support

Unity Engine
YouTube’s member ‘KurtLoeffler’ has presented a video, showcasing his voxel cone tracing plugin for the Unity engine. According to KurtLoeffler, this technique approximates global illumination by maintaining a voxelized representation of the world in camera centered cascades (only 1 cascade shown here), and tracing cones through the volume based on surface normal and position to see what lighting is visible from that point. Another Attempt At Recreating Uncharted 3: Drake’s Deception In CryEngine 3

CryEngine 3 v2
Almost a month ago, we informed you about a recreation of Naughty Dog’s Uncharted 3 in CryEngine 3. Well, today we bring you another attempt at recreating this title in Crytek’s engine. Modder Antonio Jean (who is 18 years old mind you) has finished his recreated map and presented some images from it. The end result is surprisingly good and comes close to what Naughty Dog created – and in some aspects surpasses it thanks to some of CE3’s features. Naturally, some will love it while others will hate it. And while we are at it, keep in mind that the map was created by a single person and not a whole professional studio. Enjoy!
