Here Is What the Cancelled Version of Doom 4 Looked Like

The new Doom game will be revealed in about a month, and today a number of screenshots from the cancelled version of Doom 4 got revealed (some videos were also provided that are – unfortunately – now private). In short, this is the real deal. This is how Doom 4 looked like. As we can see, this felt more like a mashup between Call of Duty and Killzone rather than a new Doom game. So we are kind of happy that it was cancelled. Enjoy the images after the jump!

      Agreed, too many of those nowadays, I’m just really hoping what they canned it for isn’t any worse…not to mention Doom has always had its own style, I don’t really understand why they would feel the need to change it at all…

I am sooo glad this was canned!
Man that is not DDOM…why the f*** can’t they just keep it simple and fun….big guns, scary hordes of demons, and a crazy amount of gore!
Here’s hoping the new one will be just that…all the articles from the Quakecon presentation has given me hope!

looked cool till the 9th picture with the cars. looks like the first source engine or the first “fear” game. why would one be happy about a canceled game? just publish it under another name.

      Not back in the day when shooters didn’t need to worry about story and just had to have gameplay down but nowadays f**k yeah there better be a good story to go along with the gameplay.

        Trying to shove lame a*s stories into FPS is one of the main things that brought the genre to it’s knees, because otherwise console kids would not feel ‘engaged’ without a stupid ‘cinematic cutscene’ every 10 minutes.
        
        There are only a handful of exceptions such as NOLF, Half-Life, Condemned and maybe F.E.A.R.

    Um, your antiquated idea of changing everything to make the game more ‘accessible’ to a larger audience is exactly why the above game shows Call of Duty: Demons, and it was scrapped because it was a stupid idea that went counter to the spirit of id Software and their fan base.
    
    So, your reboot idea was already a failure when you wrote that.
    
    What a world we live in! Now making a game with classic gameplay is actually progressive. It’s like an endless cycle. Maybe you’re not old enough to see it yet, but it’s ridiculous.

look like rage. but i see peoples bashing this, cause it’s different are the same peoples who bash cod for being the same old thing every year. i like this. it’s different. i’m sure there was going to be demons in it but we my not know cause it was cancelled.

  It’s isn’t just about being different, it’s the name and legacy that it carries.
  Same thing with Resident Evil 4 or Silent Hill: The Room for examples. Not bad games per say, but bad RE/SH ones. Same with this, this looks like Rage/Killzone/ witch isn’t bad, but it’s definitely not Doom and it shouldn’t be expected that the Doom fans would like (also I’m quite sure that the shareholders would held on to the name in order to capitalize and sell it).

I’m glad that this was canceled rather than turned into another generic cookie cutter cod/bf -ish fps clone… GG Id, GG Bethesda on cancellation!
I hope they will remove that Chromatic Garbage filter in “New Doom”….

Thank god they cancelled it. Jesus Christ, what the sh*t where they thinking when they thought this up? A CoD-like Doom? It’s like sh**ting on everything that made Doom different from the rest of the shooters.

The f’, this really looks so boring and uninteresting. So this is a build from few years ago before they scrapped the whole thing.

The 11 second teaser of the new build looks automaticly better than this crap and I have also heard some people say that the new Doom is incredibly fun (those who have seen it behind closed doors)

If someone said that these were pictures from a new Call of Duty game I would believe it. Sadly this is whats become of the multiplatform FPS genre. I expect nothing less from the new Doom game though I hope I am wrong.

I’m pretty sure that the new version won’t be much better. Prettier maybe, but not better. I may believe in it, if they’ll say that it will be a PC exclusive, but it’s not, and it never will be anymore, at least not from Bethesda. A “real” Doom game for PS4 and X1. Yeah, right. It’s not even funny.

Moreover, ID Software now is in much worse shape than it was during the development of Rage and the first version of Doom 4. Lots of talented peoples left the studio. What kind of game they can make? All those previews from Quakecon are either paid, or written by some console Bethesda fanboys.

On August 1, 2008, John Carmack said that Doom 4 will look three times better than Rage does

I still feel they could increase the resolution of assets and re-release DOOM 3 and it would be amazing. I played it recently and that game totally holds up! The graphics are gorgeous, despite being low-polygon. The game had such great atmosphere, though.

A new doom game that will take place on earth must be like Doom2 where we will be alone fighting demons and not like call of duty where you have others soldiers helping you. Also why the leak happend today and not years ago? And where are the demons? We see only humans in these pictures
