Soldier of Fortune RTX Remix Mod

Take a look at this Soldier of Fortune RTX Remix Path Tracing Mod

Modder ‘Pathtraced Paradise’ is currently working on an RTX Remix Path Tracing Mod for Soldier of Fortune. While this mod is in a very early stage, the modder shared two videos that you can find below.

As Pathtraced Paradise noted, almost all textures have been upscaled 12 times using generative AI to add additional detail to the original assets with PBR materials. He also made over 100 hand-edited textures and emissive masks.

Right now, the first three levels, plus the tutorial, are partially completed with upscaled PRB textures.

As I said, this is still a WIP Mod. This means that the videos do not reflect the quality of its final version. Still, they can give you a pretty good idea of what the modder aims to achieve.

For those wondering, there isn’t any download link for it as of yet. As soon as we get one, I’ll be sure to share it with you.

  1. The lighting is a complete and total mess. And every surface shines like crazy. Overall the game lost it's artistic direction. I will stick to upscaled textures only.

  2. Nah, hard pass. Looks awful, if you need to darken the whole asthetic just to highlight light sources you're doing it wrong.

    1. Appreciate the feedback! I just went back and added actual lights to every emissive light fixture in the subway level so far and is looking a lot better and shows off all the ai slop in all it's glory. I'll upload more vids soon.

        1. Good eye.. and that's why I was avoiding placing any actual lights (there's actual lights in those square shaped fixtures in the very beginning) because the game has very aggressive geometry culling so walls and objects out of sight will disappear causing attached lights to turn off. The only way to prevent this is to input r_novis "1" in the console but this will render the entire level and causes even my 4080 to go into single digit fps.

          1. while i love the way rtx makes these old games look like doom 3, prey far cry 1, etc, needing a 4080 to run these games well feels like a waste.

  3. everyone has their favorite retro graphics style, 16bit, psx, i like the doom 3, half life 2, prey, psychotoxic, far cry 1, quake 4 aesthetic, dark shadows and reflective surfaces.
