GTA 4 RTX Remix Path Tracing Comparison

GTA 4 RTX Remix Path Tracing Mod Graphics Comparison Video

Earlier this month, we informed you about an RTX Remix Mod for Grand Theft Auto 4. This mod adds real-time Path Tracing effects to this old GTA game, and it is currently in Early Access. So, here is a video that compares the vanilla version with its new remastered path-traced version.

This video will give you a pretty good idea of the visual improvements that this mod brings to the table. This is what a proper remaster of GTA 4 should look like. To capture it, YouTube’s ‘MxBenchmarkPC’ used an Intel Core i7-14700F with 32GB of DDR4 and an NVIDIA GeForce RTX 5080.

MxBenchmarkPC has also shared some performance numbers. At 4K, the NVIDIA RTX 5080 manages to push between 35-45FPS with DLSS 4 Performance Mode. With DLSS 4 Performance Mode and Frame Gen, we get to 55-85FPS. Then, with MFG X3, we get to 100FPS territory.

It’s worth noting that GTA 4 remains a CPU-bound title. Without Path Tracing, the game appears to have major CPU issues, even to this date. Digital Foundry has also tested the game and on Max Settings with RTX Remix, GTA 4 is bottlenecked by the CPU and not by the GPU. What this means is that you’ll have to use Frame Gen to overcome those CPU bottlenecks.

To try this Early Access version, you’ll need to join xoxor4d’s Patreon. My guess is that the final/full version of this mod will be made available for free to everyone. However, there is no ETA on when this will happen.

These past few months, we’ve shared a lot of RTX Remix Mods. So, you can find mods for Black MesaStar Wars Republic CommandoNFS: Underground, and Manhunt. You can also find some for BioShockMorrowindNFS: Underground 2Star Wars Jedi OutcastMax PayneUnreal, and Vampire: The Masquerade – Bloodlines.

In January 2024, we shared several RTX Remix Mods that are in the works. As such, you can take a look at screenshots and videos for Tomb Raider 2,  Grand Theft Auto: Vice CityManhunt, and Garfield Kart RTX Remix. Then, in February 2024, we shared videos for Need for Speed: Most WantedTony Hawk’s Pro Skater 4, and Midnight Club 2. Be sure to also check out some early RTX Remix videos and screenshots for Fallout: New VegasTom Clancy’s Splinter CellCOD 2, and Half-Life.

Speaking of Path Tracing Mods for older titles, you might also want to check out the following ones. Modders released demos for their Path Tracing Mods for Deus ExTomb Raider, and Call of Duty 4. Do note that the COD4 Mod is a “proof of concept” demo, and it does not look that great. Let’s also not forget the RTX Remix for COD: WoW. And then we have the RTX Remix Mods for Painkiller and Left 4 Dead 2. Oh, and don’t forget to try this RTX Remix for Unreal Tournament 2004. Lastly, you can download these amazing Path Tracing Mods for DoomDoom 2Quake, and Serious Sam.

Enjoy and stay tuned for more!

  1. Looks superb! now this is a proper looking RTX remix mod. And why does MxBenchmarkPC used shtty low settings for vannila GTA4?

    1. Because they're using GTA4's in-game recording feature so they can easily turn remix's pathtracing on and off using the exact footage. So that mean's they're showing the version of GTA4 they had to strip down to get it compatible with remix with as many shadows and shaders turned off as possible.

  2. I just don't get it. I love my Nvidia card. Love my Nvidia stock even more. But RTX remix has been such a flop. A few pretty screenshots is all anyone has really managed to produce. I've tried nearly every RTX remix that's in a "playable" state on ModDB and not one has actually made the game look any better. Just a bunch of splotchy lights and shadows once you actually start moving around. Maybe I need to take out a mortgage for a better GPU.

    1. That sounds like a low vram issue if moving in-game is causing the replaced textures to lag from rendering. On my 4080 I only ever see a split second where the assets are loading in if there's a quick scene change in a game otherwise everything looks stable.

I'm about to put out a "demo" for my Solider of Fortune rtx remix mod but you'll probably need at least a 4000's series card for it to play smoothly..

      1. Yeah I'll check it out. But I didn't say anything about replaced textures or texture loading. I said splotchy lights and shadows. and I'm on a 4700ti Super. I'm not on the anti-ray tracing bandwagon. It looks good in cyberpunk, for example and games that were built with it in mind, but it's nothing leaps and bounds over having it off. Couldn't care less about RTX texture replacement. HD textures have been around forever. I've been playing my own SOF2 HD gigpixel upscale for quite some time. And now here come the AI haters …

      2. It is more likely due to bad memory management and the fact these games are all 32 bit and have the 4 GB total memory address limitation. That's 4 GB system RAM and VRAM put together meaning these game engines were made for 2 GB System RAM and 2 GB VRAM max. That limits you to making memory pages/banks and swapping them in and out

        1. I'm fairly certain those limitations are moot once a game is ran through RTX remix's path traced renderer as it intercepts the original game engine's directX API calls and allows them to be re-rendered using modern tech which is why these mods also introduce native DLSS and framegen and ray reconstruction support.

These mods are just very unoptimized and demand top of the line hardware to not have texture streaming issues, that I even still get a bit on my 4080.

    1. They aren't called JewTubers for no reason, because misleading people and lying day and night like it's a normal everyday thing is how Jews work. Always has been like that since their inception.

        1. It's just super funny how you're a special kind of snowflake so much to the point that you had to downvote all of my comments here (including ones that I wasn't even replying to you) after I replied to you.

Jews and being an effem󠀀inate so󠀀ylent pu󠀀ssy; name a more iconic duo.

          1. LMAO! No, I'm not triggered by something as simple as downvotes, because I'm a masculine man who knows how to depend on himself because I saw how cruel and painful life really is, unlike y󠀀ou, triggered oversensitive sno󠀀wflake so󠀀yboy basement dweller.

I was merely pointing out about how much of an oversensitive sno󠀀wflake yo󠀀u are to downvote every single comment here just like the spoiled and triggered oversensitive snowflake so󠀀yboy y󠀀ou are. J󠀀e󠀀ws are they very ones trying to k󠀀il󠀀l every single fragments of masculinity (and every single thing "good" by nature regardless of what it is, hence why this is the dystopic and tyrannical world full of wars, injustice and oppression that we live in nowadays) just like the subversive par󠀀asites and pu󠀀s󠀀sies they and their wo󠀀rshi󠀀ppers are, hence why we have the triggered oversensitive sno󠀀wflake so󠀀yboys commenting on this article solely because of how butthurt they are and showing us how much they got so TRIGGERED! 🫵😂

            I'm sure that y󠀀ou think ch󠀀ild ra󠀀pe is "normal!" don't y󠀀ou? 🤣

          2. Lol imagine typing all that out and thinking you're the normal one.. yeah I'm not reading that sh*t you f*king weirdo

  3. Ah yes let's turn off shadows in the original so we can make the RT version look slightly less pathetic. Ain't gonna work John.
