Ancient Freeman Media has released the first gameplay trailer for its Half-Life 3 Citadel Unleashed project. Half-Life 3 Citadel Unleashed is basically a mod for Half-Life 2 that continues the story of Half-Life 2 Episode 4 Eli.
Now in case you didn’t know, Ancient Freeman Media has already released two HL3 mods, aiming to continue the story of Half-Life 2. The first one is called Half-Life 2: Episode 3 The Return and the second is Half-Life 2 Episode 4 Eli. These mods are relatively short, so don’t expect much from them.
The modding team claims that Half-Life 3 Citadel Unleashed will be longer than its previous mods. To be honest, though, I wasn’t really particularly impressed by its gameplay trailer. It looks fine for a mod. However, it’s nowhere close to what I was hoping.
Now I know, this project is from a single modder so we should all temper our expectations. Still, its title seems more exciting than the mod itself. So, here is hoping that Ancient Freeman Media will pleasantly surprise us whenever it decides to release this mod.
This isn’t the first Half-Life 3 Mod we’ve seen for HL2. For instance, Half-Life: Return to Stratigrad is a mod that takes place after the events of Half-Life 3 Epistle. And then we have Project Borealis and Boreal Alyph which are missing in action.
Speaking of Half Life 2, here are some other cool mods for it. For instance, here is a VR Mod that works wonderfully with it, and we highly recommend trying it. Entropy: Zero 2, a mod with a brand new campaign spanning seven chapters of content, is also available for download. You can also download a demo for a fan sequel to Opposing Force, Half-Life: Through The City. And lastly, Half-Life 2 Path Tracing and Half-Life 2 Remastered are two highly anticipated mods that are currently in development.

I wish Half-Life 3 was based on the first game (or Black Mesa), which had a better mood and a more interesting world.
I never understood the weird switch to the 1984-like word, which made no sense to me. HL2 was good, but just not Half-Life anymore.
Speaking of which, here are way more interesting sequels/remakes I recommend to you guys: “Azure Sheep” et “Blue Shift” have been released for Black Mesa!

Amazing mod, it does feel like a proper Episode 3 DLC.
i dont like the hl2 setting. To me the best thing to come out of the hl2 modding is underh3ll but it was abandoned.
They first need to make a proper Half Life 2 mod based on the beta.
yeah, i dont like hl2, the original story was so much beter, i still want that oicw. The hl2 modding community after all those years have failed to make a good hl2 beta remake.
They made Half Life remake and some excellent mods like Entropy zero 2. Don’t expect too much from community made free content.
“Citadel Unleashed” God this sounds so terribly low budget. Find a better name this simply doesn’t suit the HL universe, it’s too soppy.
Also, daily reminder: F*CK VALVE for abandoning HL the way they did. What an absolute spineless way of treating fans and an IP that made them rich.
