Doom 4 feature

2012 Concept Trailer leaked for Doom 4’s canceled “Call of Duty” version

A new concept trailer from the canceled version of Doom 4 has surfaced online. This is a more action-packed trailer, showcasing some of the enemies that this “Call of Duty” Doom game would feature.

Doom 4 would originally take place on Earth, and featured gameplay mechanics similar to those of the Call of Duty games. However, during development, id Software felt that this was the wrong direction, and decided to cancel it. And, to be honest, I’m glad about that decision. After all, Doom 2016 and Doom Eternal are two truly fantastic Doom games.

The first leak for this canceled Doom 4 game happened back in 2015. Back then, numerous screenshots surfaced from a behind-the-scenes trailer. Then, in 2020, new footage surfaced from that old version of Doom 4 (that video is no longer available). And then, in 2022, we got three new screenshots from it.

To be honest, the initial CG trailer looked really interesting. However, the in-engine screenshots, as well as this latest trailer, do not look that interesting. Seriously, there were moments I thought I was watching RAGE instead of Doom 4.

Anyway, those interested can go ahead and watch the trailer. Also kudos to our reader “Wyatt” for bringing this to our attention!

    1. doom 3?…that was great, do you mean doom 2016 with the wow blizzard enemy design?….cause while the gameplay was great the “look” of 2016 let me down…I just don’t like it, nothing scary about it, nothing dark/mean/terrible.

      1. I hate Doom 3 and Doom 2016.

Doom 3 was bad because of the lack of lighting and no flashlight (fixable with mods of course), and the fact that after you secured a room and tried to move on sh*t would pop out of the wall behind you and that pissed me off. It was just a bad attempt to turn a beloved shooter into yet another sh**ty horror game…

Doom 2016 sucked due to how blurry the visuals were, how frequently you would get stuck on the floor, and possibly some other things I can’t remember. I truly hated that game as well (possibly more than Doom 3), and it was a chore to force myself to finish it. Eventually I figured out how to reduce the blurriness of the game’s visuals, and I enjoyed it more after that.

      1. Yeah, this looks like it would have breathed new life into the franchise a decade before Doom 2016, assuming the game was even half as good as the trailer insinuates.

  1. Just in case you forget how terrible games looked during Xbox360 era – horrible color grading and overblown bloom.

    1. And still, somehow, that horrid sh*t is still better than modern dynamic lighting with bad ambient occlusion.

  2. I’m not a fan of COD games. I gave COD games up after the first Black Ops but it’s undeniable that the franchise has millions and millions of loyal fans that buy the new game every year. The games generate hundreds and hundreds of millions of dollars in revenue every year for Activision. The franchise has generated 31 billion dollars in revenue so far making it one of the most popular franchises of all time and it doesn’t seem to ever come to an end.

Having said that, perhaps id didn’t think that Doom 4 would attract the COD crowd and didn’t think it was worth the risk. At the end of the day it’s all about the money.

    1. Ok but who said that, John here? Hes just repeating and copy pasting what others have been saying, but is there any proof? Nobody would want a cod doom so ofcourse as a consequence nobody would want this but If u actulay watch trailers for this thing, its more akin to being Rage and in this new traielr its even seen a glorrykill mechanic. so all this CoD bullshit is just that. Anyway, monster designs are coler than what we got in reboot, i agree with others.

      1. You signed up for a Disqus account a few minutes ago just to leave this comment? There are plenty of sources for Doom 4 being too much like COD.

  3. I wish we got this instead of 2016 and eternal with their generic cartoony “sCaRy mOnStEr” designs…

  4. Honestly this isnt bad, its just looks more like rage 2 instead of doom, you can already see the doom 2016 parts in it.

  5. Yeah let’s cancel “Call of Duty Doom” to deliver a “Horde Mode plus gimmicks Doom” that isn’t Doom either.
If i wanted that i would play Shadow Warrior or some Warhammer or something else.
I HATE everything after Doom I-II with a passion. It’s doesn’t capture what made Doom classics great, it’s not Doom.
