SEGA today announced that the closed beta phase for those who pre-ordered Company of Heroes 2, the eagerly anticipated strategy game from Relic Entertainment, is now live. The closed beta playtest features the game’s critically acclaimed competitive multiplayer and skirmish gameplay, giving players access to six maps, 1v1, 2v2, 3v3 and 4v4 competitive gameplay, as well as the ability to play alone or with teammates against the AI. Man, GDC 2013 keeps delivering. SEGA announced today that Company of Heroes 2, the eagerly anticipated strategy game from Relic, will be running an exclusive, early access beta phase which will go live Tuesday 2nd April. Company of Heroes 2’s beta will be hosted on Steam and will take advantage of Steamworks’ various features (such as match-making and friend list). A lot of PC strategy fans got worried when THQ closed its doors. Even though Relic was acquired from SEGA, we had not heard anything new about the sequel to Company of Heroes for quite some time. Man, what an exciting afternoon it was. Yes, unfortunately THQ has been shut down and it’s really sad witnessing such a publisher going down. However, most of the company’s assets have been succesfully acquired by other companies, so there is nothing to worry about. Unless of course you’re interested in a new Darksiders 2 as Vigil Games was not sold to anyone and if THQ does not find a seller in the coming months, the studio will most probably close. Man, you gotta love the Internet. A temporarily server outage and everyone thought that CoH was being shut down. Ironically, there is also a rumor about Relic going down. Relic has released a new set of screenshots for its upcoming strategy game, Company of Heroes 2. COH2 is powered by the Essence Engine 3.0 and its ColdTech system, an engine that will fully support DX11 and tessellation. The new ColdTech system will allow the Essence Engine to dynamically paint on and remove snow. We should also note that the gane will also feature TrueSight dynamic line-of-sight mechanics. Relic has revealed – via the FB page of Company of Heroes 2 – that its upcoming strategy game fully supports DX11. According to the company, the Essence Engine 3 has full support of DX11 hardware tessellation, meaning that snow will have true deforming depth when units walk or roll over it. Relic has also promised groundbreaking visuals and has released a new DX11 screenshot that can be viewed below. Company of Heroes 2 is planned for a 2013 release on the PC. Enjoy!
