This is what Quake looks like in iD Tech 4 Engine

YouTube’s member ‘thone2008’ has ported the first level of id’s classic FPS, Quake, into Doom 3. thone2008 has used the Quake Mod to convert E1M1 from Quake 1 (using Romero’s Map Source) into Doom 3 Map format and the only things that are missing are Textures (but all the original gun placements are there). thone2008 then used Darkplaces’s HD textures to ‘dress’ the entire level. The end result is cool, so go ahead and take a look! Continue reading This is what Quake looks like in iD Tech 4 Engine

New screenshots from Crysis 2’s Quake map

Mapper ‘Cleric’ has released some new screenshots from his Quake map that is under development for Crysis 2. This is basically a re-imagining of Quake’s first level and uses some of the assets found in iD Software’s classic shooter, like the ammo crates and the button switches. This is an excellent work and Cleric deserves the spotlight as the map will be finished soon. Enjoy the screenshots after the jump! Continue reading New screenshots from Crysis 2’s Quake map

Surprise surprise; Quake comes to CryEngine 3 with Crysis 2 – E1M1 – The Slipgate Complex

Remember when we told you, earlier last week, that Duke Nukem 3D would be coming to CryEngine 3? Well, it seems that another classic game will also find its way to Crytek’s engine. With the release of CryEngine 3’s SDK, the mapper decided restart that project in Crysis 2 and released some new screenshots from it. Cleric is currently recreating the first level, but there is a possibility for more Quake maps. Enjoy! What if Quake was done today

Now that’s hilarious. We all know how most FPS games got dumbed down over the course of the past few years but watching a classic fast-paced FPS, like Quake, being remade by today’s standards is funny as hell. Simple graphics options, slow-paced gameplay, pop-up menus, enormous target icon and childish boss battles are re-imagined with a sense of humor. This is what is really wrong with the game industry and we are thankful that there are still developers like Croteam. The video was spotted by Rage3D’s user, Ego. Enjoy everyone!
