Intel showcases a 28-core CPU running at 5.0Ghz on all cores, to be released in 2018
At Computex 2018, Intel showcased a new beast CPU that will release later this year. Although Intel did not reveal any additional details, it demonstrated a 28-core CPU running at 5.0Ghz on all cores. AMD has slightly increased its GPU market share in the first quarter of 2018, Intel remains the king
Jon Peddie Research, the industry’s market research firm for the graphics industry, has released its Q1 2018 market report. According to the report, year-to-year total GPU shipments increased 3.4%, desktop graphics increased 14% and notebooks decreased -3%. And even though AMD has slightly increased its GPU market share, overall GPU shipments decreased -10% from last quarter (AMD decreased -6%, Nvidia decreased -10%, and Intel decreased -11%). Spectre Next Generation are new security vulnerabilities affecting Intel’s CPUs
It appears that eight new security vulnerabilities have surfaced. German website Heise reports that these new vulnerabilities are called Spectre Next Generation – or Spectre NG – and affect mostly Intel’s CPUs (though they may also affect some ARM CPUs). Microsoft details performance impact of Spectre and Meltdown fixes on a variety of PC configurations
Microsoft is currently deploying the Spectre and Meltdown fixes via its Windows Update app and has just detailed the performance impact users can expect from them.
