Bungie has just released the final major update for Destiny 2 and shared its full patch notes. So, let’s see what this final patch brings to the table.
Patch 9.7.0 adds a new activity, called Monument of Triumph. Players can find the Monument of Triumph in the center of the Tower courtyard. By completing Triumphs in the new Monument of Triumph category, players can earn Legendary Marks. These marks can be traded with the four Guardian Tenet vendors in the Tower. In return, players can get free armor ornaments, accessories, weapon engrams, and other rewards.
Update 9.7.0 also adds Distortions across destinations on the Sol System. While active, they make enemies stronger and offer better rewards. A Distortion moves to a different destination every hour. Players can see the current location and the time remaining on the Destinations screen.
When a Distortion is active, enemies will look different, and the environment will show clear signs that something has changed. Players who complete public events during a Distortion can earn higher-level gear than usual. Some special Distortion events may also reward unique items.
Patch 9.7.0 also brings Pantheon 2.0. The first two Pantheon activities are available now. They are called Calus Resplendent and Morgeth Surpassing. Each one features a different set of bosses to fight. Players can access these activities through the new Raids and Dungeons menu on the Destinations screen. A third Pantheon activity will launch on June 13 at 10 AM PT. In this mode, players will battle through the full lineup of bosses. Starting on June 16, the game will also add a weekly boss rotation. Two bosses will be featured at a time, giving players new challenges each week.
And that’s not all. Update 9.7.0 adds more to Fireteam Ops, Pinnacle Ops, Arena Ops, Raids, and Dungeons. We also get some changes to the Crucible, Competitive Mode, Shooting Range, and Trials. Sparrow Racing League has also returned, featuring all four original maps from Destiny 1.
The Patch Notes for Update 9.7.0 is over 17,000 words. In total, we’re looking at over 1400 tweaks, fixes, and changes. The changelog for this final patch is huge. So, to save the trouble, I won’t include it below. Instead, those interested can read it here.
Like always, Steam will download this final patch for Destiny 2 the next time you launch its client.
This is the end of an era. With this final patch out, Bungie will now be focusing its resources on Marathon. The game desperately needs a lot of polish and attention, as its player numbers are nowhere close to those of Destiny 1 or 2. The situation is not as bad as what we saw with Highguard or Concord. So, it will be interesting to see whether Bungie will be able to save it.
