A few days ago, NVIDIA officially launched DLSS 5. So far, only one game officially supports it, and that’s NBA 2K27. And, as we’ve already reported, DLSS 5 is quite demanding.
From what we’ve seen, DLSS 5 does not seem to be affected by the internal render resolution. In its current state, it only appears to depend on the output resolution. However, modders have already found a way to run the DLSS 5 network at the render resolution. As such, DLSS 5 can now run before the game’s DLSS upscaler kicks in.
This is precisely what NVIDIA should have done from the get-go. Thanks to the modding community, DLSS 5 mods can now have Quality, Balance, and Performance Modes. These modes can significantly improve performance, though they may reduce the strength of DLSS 5.
Right now, DLSS 5 Autopilot offers this ability. The mod comes with matiasLombo’s add-on. When enabled, it runs the network at render resolution before the game’s DLSS upscales.
DLSS 5 Autopilot also includes jlrouzies-fr’s DLSS5-Feeder. This is the mod that allows you to enable DLSS 5 in any DX12, DX11, DX10, and Vulkan games, even if they do not support DLSS. As such, I highly recommend using DLSS 5 Autopilot, as it can give you a lot of more options.
You can go ahead and download DLSS 5 Autopilot from here. At the end of the article, you can also find a video that showcases the improvements of this technique.
I’m really impressed by what modders have already achieved. They can inject DLSS 5 into almost any game you can think of. They have also found a way to improve its performance.
Perhaps NVIDIA should hire these modders. They could help them to add a universal “DLSS 5 Lite” setting to the driver. This could let PC gamers enable DLSS 5 in any game through the NVIDIA App. Of course, it would not be as accurate as a native version. Still, it would let players try DLSS 5 in many old and classic games.
Another mod that lets you adjust the quality of DLSS 5 is the DLSS 5 Mod for Onimusha: Way of the Sword. I’ve been playing the game with it, and it’s a game-changer. I mean, look at this comparison. I can’t believe how much better the game looks with DLSS 5. And this is with a hacked DLSS 5 mod.
My only gripe with the DLSS 5 mods is that some games can have heavy flickering and visual artifacts. In most cases, you can reduce these issues by changing the DLSS 5 settings. Still, it can be tricky to find the right settings and get the best results.
NVIDIA has stated that it’s currently working on improving the performance of DLSS 5. So, I’m curious to see whether its results will be similar to what we see in DLSS 5 Autopilot.
Finally, since you have shared some DLSS 5 videos, I’ve decided to include them below. As such, you can take a look at Need for Speed Heat, No Man’s Sky, Serious Sam 2, and Forza Horizon 6 with DLSS 5.
Stay tuned for more!
