Mortal Kombat 2 feature

The source code of Mortal Kombat 2 Arcade has been leaked online

In case you didn’t know, I’m a huge fan of the classic 2D Mortal Kombat games. And I’m excited to report that the source code of Mortal Kombat 2’s arcade version has been leaked online.

This follows the leak of other older games, like Duke Nukem Forever 2001, PREY 1995 and Halo 3’s “Pimps at Sea” build. What’s really funny here is that most of them happened this month. I guess Santa was quite busy leaking all those older games.

But anyway, this leak reveals some interesting stuff. For instance, Johnny Cage’s fatality was meant to be more brutal. After uppercutting an enemy, their heads would be seriously messed up. Furthermore, Shao Kahn would have a fatality (but was cut for some reason).

Since the source code of MK2 is out in the wild, modders/hackers will be able to extract the sprites. In theory, and by using AI techniques, modders will be able to replace the original sprites with HD versions. In short, one day we might get a faithful HD remaster of this classic MK game.

But anyway, below you can find a video that shows off some of the cool stuff that people have uncovered so far!

Mortal Kombat 2 Source Code LEAKED!! Let's get a look

  1. I dont know why they dont leak sources for dinosaur games more often. You wont get rich on those and at least make some geeks happy

    1. They don’t care about your happiness. They rather kill franchises if they can never get maximum COD money off of them. Ever since the inception of COD, that showed them that there is insane amounts of money to make, they don’t care about your happiness. Every game that’s ever released is held to COD sales standards and if it doesn’t make it, cancelled. People have no idea how many games got cancelled and will never get made.

Just look at enix and they catalog. Do you think we would ever see another Kain game if embracer group didn’t sn@tch those ips up. Same thing can be said for ‘destroy all humans’. A franchise like that was left dead and buried. Thanks to embracer group a lot of old classics will live again. And mostly DRM-Free. Netherrealms is as greedy as they get. They will nickel & dime you to death. They’ve single handidly turned me off from all things MK. Every game they release that milk the hell out of their customer base. But y’all show up with your utters & lactation devices ready to go at the studios beckoning.

    2. Exactly, it could be something like an NGO formed by publishers and devs for code preservation for games older than 20 years that are not being sold anywhere, or something like that.
