The team behind the Playstation 4 emulator, fpPS4, has released a new version of it. According to reports, this new version can now run 26 commercial games and 12 homebrew games.
Now in case you’re wondering, the emulator cannot run any of the PS4 triple-A games. So while this is huge progress for this emulator, you should temper your expectations. In other words, you won’t be able to play games like Bloodborne, Ghost of Tsushima or The Last of Us Part 2.
fpPS4 is the fourth Playstation 4 emulator that is currently in development. The other three are Kyty, Spine and GPCS4.
Those interested can download fpPS4 from here or here. The emulator requires a 64bit operating system, an x64 CPU that supports AVX2, and a GPU that supports the Vulkan API.

Lol. Man, emulators advanced, they are not relaying on cpu only anymore. Xenia uses a GOOD chunk of my Radeon 6600 for RdR. Sure, cpu is still most important for emulation speed, but as cpu improvements per core are slowing, they will have to include gpu for emulation, one way or another. Note that Spine is different because it’s actually a so-called HLE (high level emulator).
It forwards the POSIX calls (from PS4’s FrankenBSD OS) to the equivalent ones on Linux, similar to Valve’s Proton.
Therefore, the CPU requirements are rather low.
That is also the reason why it’s Linux-only, and will likely stay that way…
1. I was talking about the 4090, and kiddies thinking GPU’s the reason why emus run slow, when in fact it’s due to optimization.
2. You can run RDR on a potatoe if it was optimized well enough. It’s visuals are literally tailored towards 2005 era GPUs, so you can run Xenia or rpcs3 with most gpu’s today, none are really heavy.

Really all we’d want a PS4 Emu for would be the God of War 1 2 and 3 remakes and Bloodborne.
