Hogwarts Legacy came out almost two weeks ago. The game uses the latest version of the Denuvo anti-tamper tech and from the looks of it, this latest version has already been cracked.
As always, we won’t allow any links to pirated content. However, I’m certain that most of you will be able to find the scene release from EMPRESS.
From what we know, only EMPRESS is currently able to crack Denuvo. As such, it will be interesting to see what will happen with all the future games that use it. Will EMPRESS also crack them, or will Denuvo win this final battle (and the war)?
Hogwarts Legacy uses Unreal Engine 4 and is one of the best-looking games. The game also performs well on PC, though it still suffers from traversal stutters.
It’s also worth noting that modders are already working on some cool mods for it. A VR Mod is currently in development, alongside a Multiplayer Mod.

All other developers hate him and discredit his claims, that includes mod authors, Unwinder (MSI Afterburner and RTSS developer) was one of the most vocal about it so far, followed by crosire (Reshade developer).
His so called fixes are stolen work from other developers in the open source community, with added checks and calls that go near spyware.

I think it is similar to Tarkov modders trying to gatekeep pirates from their offline mod, probably less to do with the DRM and more to do with them wanting to support the game, but that’s all in vain since it was their fault the game got “cracked” and devs hate their guts for it.

to be honest considering there is no true performance hit by using it we have no motive to complain unless the only reason is we want to get it without money. Let’s just be true here and say that this is the reason. It’s not the performance, it’s the fact that we were used to having everything cracked and now there are games where you either pay or wait a bunch to get it cracked, if ever. AC Valhalla is a great example. Last crack was 2 years ago and ever since there has been lots of dlc to the game. If you like video games and want to continue having good ones, good single player ones, there is no reason to fault a developer for using denuvo unleess you are upset you cannot get it free. There is no other real reason. Denuvo isn’t stopping you from enjoying any game, certainly not this one. Why shoudnt Mundfish have few weeks of good sales ? The goal of Denuvo is to increase sales by stopping piracy. It does neither, in part since because pirates know it will be easily cracked.
Nope, that would be an incentive, a possible consequence of stopping piracy. DRM’s are about holding pirates back, full stop, the rest is rationalizations pro or against. People that say pirates get to play the best version of game(DRM free) would be partially pro-DRM if pirates are prevented from playing it.

Some games take years to crack, like Splinter Cell (don’t remember which one rn) or Left Alive. The sales motif is an appeal to companies to stop using DRM, but again, DRM is about keeping freeloaders like myself out, the rest is speculation and some consequences like paying customers getting inconvenienced.

It does impair legit customers with worse performance if poorly implemented, online dependency on servers is always there and will be there, and it also causes problems with .exe modding.

Denuvo has never been a problem for me, although people have sometimes claimed that this thing can cause stuttering problems. Some games were released without denuvo later on and unsurprisingly peformance problems (the stutters) were still there. To be fair denuvo has some small impact on your max fps in completly CPU bottlenecked game, but that’s not something that you can notice, and certainly it’s not responsible for major stuttering problems people are having in UE4 games.
People used to dislike DRM way before Denuvo existed. They just focus on the most harming aspect a DRM can bring to the paying customer. Pirates get it harder than paying customers in some cases, but they don’t complain (or shoudn’t).

Empress did say that she has her sight on that game because she went on a rant on how you dont own modern games you rent them and if you lose your account or get banned, its over, so this is why she cracks them, true but, her cracks are not making sure you own the game as they are bypassing denuvo and emulate server checks. She said most of the triggers that find if the system used is the same as the one authorized by denuvo happen in loading screens but in some open world games like fenyx rising they happen during gameplay, so since open world games have very large environments now, they can happen everywhere, which means that like baldman said when he cracked prey by removing every trigger, that there are millions of triggers. So the cracking gets automated with algorithms that go through the game and then you gotta have tons of testers.
Why is this important for people that buy games? Because like empress said at some point either they shut the servers down or the denuvo servers have issues which caused a bunch of games to just remove denuvo, since no one could play them for that short amount of time and you dont own the game. Cracked denuvo games are not playable either as you will run into crashes due to the system you got not being the same as the one that was authorized and this cannot be fixed. So you are taking your chances downloading tens of gigabytes, see it like a demo, they dont make those anymore. The problem remains at some point cracked on uncracked the game you bought or pirated wont work. You should NEVER support practices like this. Why does doom eternal still have denuvo even though it was leaked without denuvo day 1 is a huge question. Meanwhile metro exodus and dying light 2 removed it and ubisoft forgot to put denuvo when they released fenyx rising on steam. You have NEVER owned games and that’s been true for over 40 years ….. All you get, and this is true for all software even Open Source, is a license to use that software. Even Open Source software has a license you have to comply with, it just allows you more privileges on what you can do with the code but usually has a licensing stipulation stating that you have to make your changes to the code publicly available but you still don’t own it.

Let’s go back to 2017 where Denuvo DRM miserably defeated, almost got bankrupt until Ubisoft used VM protection DRM on DRM, which delayed cracked for while but it was lovely years for cracking Denuvo DRM

Steam itself is a form of DRM and if you buy a game on Steam from a developer that has it’s own DRM like Ubisoft then you end up with two layers of DRM running (Actually 3 because most Ubisoft games also have Denuvo) which is why when given a choice I buy directly from the developer. All my Witcher and CP77 games are from GOG, all my Ubisoft games are from Ubisoft and all my Rockstar games are from Rockstar. I only buy games from Steam when there is no other option … like Skyrim until recently or most Sony ports to PC. I also have a few games from Epic but every last one of them was free. I’m their worst nightmare, I own 23 games and have never spent a penny at their store …..
I would love to see Denuvo and other forms of DRM go away but that’s just never going to happen as long as people think the are entitled to steal other people’s work. Cracking Denuvo will be just a short term victory because they just come up with something harder to crack and more intrusive.
FACT: Denuvo isn’t going away until people stop stealing other people’s IP …. It’s simple, if you want Denuvo to go away then stop stealing games. Then and only then will developers stop using it because it’s no longer cost effective but as long as theft of IP happens it is cheaper for them to include Denuvo to cut their losses from theft. If I can pay $1 million to save the loss of $10 million then I’m going to do it and if you were honest with yourselves you would do it too. Not using Denuvo is like not putting a lock on your doors and none of you would do that.

Best way to have it removed is to simply not spend a dime on any software with denuvo as more and more peeps seem to be doing. Thats no doubt a big part why more and more pubs remove the drm way ahead of their bought denuvo licence for the title expires. Stealing games is not ok… but neither is forcing software that only makes the paying customer experience worse (to mention a bunch of possible issues – less fps, more stutter, higher power bill or even unable to play the game at all).

What’s the point of Denuvo? I mean it always gets cracked and it also reduces performance, and most of the times the dev ends up removing it with an update. So what’s the point? Is it like a requirement from the publisher?
But it doesn’t and haven’t proven to work. Just another placebo. If you just look at the seeding and DLing of these cracks. It tells a whole other story. They’ll come up with any garbage to defend their rubbish.
It works for games that don’t have the confidence Witcher 3 did, because mediocre games largest number of sales are all at launch with hype from unethical streamers/influencers. You can tell when a dev really thinks their product is strong because they will have an open beta on a multiplayer title (Diablo 4 devs seem pretty confident) or they will skip Denuvo. Hogwarts could have skipped Denuvo but the LBGT otherkins and even game journalism probably would have tweeted about pirating the game while claiming it was the right thing to do.
In the not to distance future if I were them I would cut Denuvo. Hogwarts is apparently that well loved by their target demographic. They really don’t need it anymore unless they have no plans to do a sequel and instead plan to just support the game with DLC. I wouldn’t bother. I would go sequel (can be in another timeline) and Unreal 5 with Lumen. Can reuse a ton of the assets, Lumen will make the game look beautiful and Unreal 5 will stutter less.
Tried the Dodi repack. Not gonna play it cus I don’t give AF about Harry Potter. Just wanted to see if it ran better as Empress claimed. Fast forwarding all the dialogue, RAM usage is possibly lower than retail. Inside Hogwarts in the big hall with a cool looking statue, I am getting around 12 gigs system ram usage max (was like 8-9 in the prologue) with ISLC running in the background clearing standby. That might be because I have a ton of VRAM though and people are going over their VRAM limit and things like SAM and REBAR are prob f’ing things up cus they use VRAM to. Might want to turn them off if you are pushing high textures on a 8 gig card.
Traversal stutter is still there. Higher the FPS the more noticeable it seems. The game also looks bad without additional sharpening via reshade. I used cas.fx and it looks stupidly better. Same deal with every Unreal Engine game.
Looks like they made a really beautiful game. I would just buy the thing if you like Harry Potter. I never grew up with the IP. I grew up with Star Wars and Dragonlance.

Anyone downloading pirated copies should be ashamed of themselves. All the hard work from the devs and years of efforts – and you’re just stealing it. If someone stole your work, then you’ll be screeching away but since it is others work – not my problem right? Have some respect.

I will tell you something even more shameful – demanding 70 USD for a digital(!) copy of the game.
Ignoring pricing policy for smaller markets – ie demanding 70 USD from some countries with much less salaries than the US, just because you can. Then pricing the games in Russia and Brazil accordingly.

Most people’s employers make a LOT more money from revenue per employee than they pay in salary. So, basically, the entire time you’re working, you are being stolen from.
Secondly, most people who pirate it would not have bought the game anyway.
Thirdly, all that money is going to the publisher, not the dev. You act like the programmers and artists are getting millions of dollars because they made the game, or are losing millions because it’s being pirated. Sorry to say but poor Jacob putting in 18 hr days crunching for release probably got a sad bonus, if one at all.
Fourthly, don’t buy alienware PC’s. And don’t advertise you do. You may as well slap a big sign on your head that says “I’m too stupid or lazy to build my own PC so I bought an overpriced POS”.

I just took the torrent of Hogwarts and posted it on WB Games Twitter page. I’m sure someone there at WB reads messages. I said what can you do now? The answer is nothing, your helpless. Then said a load of words I shouldn’t post here? I also do that with TV Shows, Movies, especially HBO and Paramount+, they are notorious in sending letters to your ISP, well ExpressVPN fixes all of that. I posted all 6 episodes from RARBG of The Last of Us in 4K right to HBO’s Twitter page, and said now what? Can’t do crap about this now can we? ???
