Alkimia Interactive has overhauled the official demo for Gothic 1 Remake, which will be using Unreal Engine 5. This new demo feels much better than what we got in February 2025. So, if you are a big fan of the series, I suggest trying it.
As the devs noted, the new demo has faster animations. That was something that stood out to me. So, I’m glad the devs have made some improvements to them. Thanks to the faster animations, your interaction with the game world will be much smoother.
The devs have also confirmed that the combat felt a bit bad due to some hit registration issues. As they said, players would sometimes see their sword hitting an opponent, but the game would not register that hit. This made the combat feel bad and not that responsive. In the final version, the devs will fix this bug.
What’s also crucial to note is that this demo is just something that the devs can use to improve the game. In other words, consider it a beta demo. It does not reflect the quality of the final product in any way.
It’s also worth noting that the demo shows a custom area/scenario. In other words, this Prologue is not featured in the game. In the demo, you take on the role of Nyras, a convict thrown into the Colony. The story will be only loosely connected to the full game, and it will allow you to explore the Colony at your own pace. This prologue takes place before the events of Gothic 1, setting the stage for the Nameless Hero’s legendary journey.
You can go ahead and download the new demo from this link. Below you can also find a video, in which the devs highlight some of the changes I mentioned above.
Enjoy and stay tuned for more!
