Fallout 76 features engine code and scripts that were taken directly from Fallout 4 and Skyrim

The controversy surrounding Fallout 76 is huge, there is no doubt about that. When the game initially came out, a lot of players found some mechanics and visuals that looked similar to both Fallout 4 and Skyrim. And now we can safely say that Fallout 76 does in fact feature engine code that was taken directly from Fallout 4 and Skyrim.

Discovered by Twitter member ‘Christian Leites‘, the following screenshots showcase some parts of the code and files/scripts that were borrowed from Fallout 4 and The Elder Scrolls 5: Skyrim.

For starters, the “downloadable content check” functionality exactly the same. In fact, Bethesda did not even bother to edit the comment section of the code and remove the references to Fallout 4. Now I get it, it’s easier to simply copy-paste the code that works – and doesn’t introduce any major issues – but this here proves that parts of Fallout 76’s engine are simply taken from Fallout 4 and Skyrim.

Bethesda has also used the exact scripts and animations for the Scorchbeast Queen. I’m pretty sure you’ve seen some videos that compare the Scorchbeast creatures with Skyrim’s dragons and this right here explains why they look so similar; that’s because the scripts and pretty much everything is the same (well apart from the models).

Again, I seriously get it for borrowing the downloadable checking system from Fallout 4 (it works so why not re-use it if the engine uses a similar system?) but I find it hilarious that Bethesda simply borrowed the Skyrim dragon code and scripts in order to use them for the Scorchbeast creatures.

I’m pretty sure that if modders dig any deeper they will find more references to both Fallout 4 and Skyrim. So yeah, that’s a yellow flag Bethesda!
