Deus Ex Human Revolution feature 2

Embracer Group to acquire EIDOS, Crystal Dynamics & Square Enix Montreal

Embracer Group has announced that it has entered into an agreement to acquire the development studios Crystal Dynamics, Eidos-Montréal, Square Enix Montréal, and a catalogue of IPs including Tomb Raider, Deus Ex, Thief, Legacy of Kain and more than 50 back-catalogue games.

In total, the acquisition includes ~1,100 employees across three studios and eight global locations. The total purchase price amounts to USD 300 million on a cash and debt free basis, to be paid in full at closing. Embracer has secured additional long-term debt funding commitments for this and other transactions in the pipeline. The company today reiterates its current Operational EBIT forecast for FY 21/22, FY 22/23, and FY 23/24. The transaction is subject to various regulatory and other external approvals and is expected to close during the second quarter of Embracer’s financial year 22/23 (July-September 2022).

Embracer will hold a webcast presentation for investors, analysts and media on 2 May 2022 at CET 09.00.

Lars Wingefors, Co-founder and Group CEO at Embracer Group, said:

”We are thrilled to welcome these studios into the Embracer Group. We recognize the fantastic IP, world class creative talent, and track record of excellence that have been demonstrated time and again over the past decades. It has been a great pleasure meeting the leadership teams and discussing future plans for how they can realize their ambitions and become a great part of Embracer.”

Phil Rogers, Square Enix America and Europe CEO, added:

”Embracer is the best kept secret in gaming: a massive, decentralized collection of entrepreneurs whom we are thrilled to become a part of today. It is the perfect fit for our ambitions: make high-quality games, with great people, sustainably, and grow our existing franchises to their best versions ever. Embracer allows us to forge new partnerships across all media to maximize our franchises’ potential and live our dreams of making extraordinary entertainment.”

  1. Ummmm the samurai its making moves, can’t tell if this is seppuku or closing ranks trying to contain the pozed infestation.

    1. I know, that’s one of the reasons that made me ponder.

After reading their reasons for the sell and joining some dots i am pretty sure is niether, they just toeing the line of the powers that be.

  2. This is probably the best thing that could happen to these studios. Lars Wingefors understands his business.

  3. I guess superhero sh*t didn’t sell well.
Wasn’t expecting this though, just some shitdowns and more focus on Final Fantasy by Squeenix.

  4. ” The total purchase price amounts to USD 300 million ”

Elon musk should have bought that instead of twitter.

      1. Can y’all please stop going on about this social Trojan horse Elon Musk. It’s kinda embarrassing to see people who I know SHOULD KNOW BETTER praise this dipsh*t. He’s one of them for fuq sakes. Inventing garbage to replace peoples jobs, crappy elective cars that are mostly parking lot bombs, CONSTANTLY pushes for universal income and is currently raising a Fuq’d Up Genderless Child. C’mon guys stop this behavior. That does any of this have to do with this idiot?.

        1. I have no idea why you think I praised Musk. Every comment I have ever left on any website is ridiculing him including the comment that you replied to. Do you know what a Goa’uld is? It’s the worst form of life in the Galaxy on Stargate SG-1

Mentioning how wealthy he is isn’t praise it’s just fact.

          1. Well I’m with you then brother,… I was just s bit confused because I know you’re one of the real ones on here. I just find that he’s been mentioned way too much these days and people are starting to forget what that idiot is. Praising this fool because he bought Twitter, “muh free speech”. Who gives a damn about these platforms. These platforms will always be devilish watering holes. These people think Twitter is real life. They want the right to say whatever they want, yet in the real world they wouldn’t walk up to you and say whatever they walk. I try talking to people and everyone is Fuqing afraid to say what they believe in, just beating around the damn bush. All these things are just distraction. Dude swimming thinking he’s a woman and win all the championship? Easy fix, DON’T GET IN THE POOL with the FUQR! Done, done & done.

        1. “The interviewer had stopped asking Elon Musk what games he would recommend to end the interview when Elon Musk, unprompted, asked the interviewer:

“Do you play any video games? Have you tried the new Deus Ex?” ~ Elon Musk

He does go onto say later in the interview that:

“In the latest Deus Ex, the storytelling is kind of lame. Whereas the prior Deus Ex and the original Dues Ex, the storytelling was amazing. The original Deus Ex was killer.””

  5. Deus Ex was always leaning towards transhumanism, then the prequels amped up with the cyber racism and cyber apartheid, making a underdog out of transhumanism, which frankly was poorly done, they probably copied their crap from x-man pozzed comics and movies.

  6. I’ve been talking with a couple buddies about SE being bought for the past few weeks. They, of course, thought I was crazy, and well, here we are.

It was inevitable. SE has been a complete and utter train wreck for well over a decade. Eventually, the books can’t balance out any longer.

I really hope this improves the company, as they have some great IPs, but they were just god awful at managing them.

    1. Some of the companies that Square Enix owned were sold, not Square Enix itself… So slow down on calling yourself a profit, you are still “crazy” in your friends eyes. And they most likely are correct.

  7. I doubt anything will change for TR cause allegedly Crystal had the freedom to do as they wished with the games. And seeing how meh the reboot trilogy was and that dreadful TRR mobile game is, I suspect nothing of importance will change. But at least Square won’t be there which is good I guess.

    1. Yup. Crystal Dynamics are woke Canadians who seem fully intent on erasing Lara’s femininity with each successive game.

      1. Woke and Canadians are like Peanut Butter & Jelly, you can’t have one without the other. It’s Canada could’ve been a beacon for what a great country could’ve been. Instead it’s a first world country with 3rd world leadership. Canada is one of the most corrupt country in the Western Hemisphere. It’s people are also delusional & pathetic.

  8. I wonder when the next Deus Ex game sees the light of day and whether it’ll actually be good.

Also another proof that capitalism always leans towards monopolization with few big players ruling every industry.

    1. Videogames aren’t that centralized thankfully, plenty of new players entering the scene and succeding unlike movies and TV.

    2. Any uncheck system corrupts eventually, call it human nature or just the way of things on their constant path towards entropy.

    3. Klaus Schwab and World Economic Forum seem fully intent bringing about “The Great Reset” where we’ll all be reduced to serfs under the thumb of a small handful of elites. “You’ll own nothing and be happy.” Yeah nah. This is what happens when we leave Germans to go about their business unchecked.

  9. And post acquisition they will “embrace” more diversity and wokeness (despite being already woke) LOL

    1. Unlikely. Embracer own THQ Nordic who hosted an AMA on 8CHAN of all places just three years ago. They apologized after being flamed by twitter SJWs but there were no actual consequences. THQ Nordic also brought back together the old devs of Timesplitters last year so there’s finally going to be another Timesplitters game in the coming years.

If being owned by Embracer looks like that then Square Enix have just been saved and we may see another Deus Ex game in our lifetime. A real one, not a mess like Mankind Divided.

        1. Yes DS3 is pure garbage but if you want to suffer through it go ahead and play the pirated version.

  10. Is this the result of the Avengers game and The guardians of the Galaxy game bombing?

      1. Being profitable isn’t enough for a company that looks for growth. That’s why a lot of games are “profitable” yet aren’t considered a success.

      2. Guardians was a sales dissapointment, not as big as Avengers, but still not enough considering how much they paid the Mouse for the IP.

    1. Nope not in this case bruh. Do your research see THQ NORDIC. They brought back a lot classics and they actually give a fuq. They actually do remakes and all DRM-Free.

        1. What do you expect from Sega or Capcom? When it comes to sonic Sega loses its mind & when it comes street fighter, crapcom ALWAYS loses its mind.

  11. Well… I just did my research and turns out this is the BEST FUQING NEWS ALL YEAR. Welcome to the DRM-Free circle. This basically THQ NORDIC. Oh man, FUQ YOU DENUVO! & So long square Enix, you piece of shxt. This is GOOD NEWS! Thank You, Ole Johnny Boy ?

    1. F*K YEAH!
Love it and the embracer – THQ NORDIC (before) as you said!
They make me proud as hell to be a Swede – F*K DRM FOREVER 😀

    2. Bro, THQnordic is on a freaking roll for the past 3 years. Destroy all humans 1 remake(great) and now getting sequal remake, spongebob sqaurepants game, darksiders 3(I actually enjoyed it minority here), and timesplitters! timefreakingsplitters!! Hopefully a new deus ex game soon.

      1. Yeah, these guys are just making games and they don’t care about much else. I hope people support them because in this post COD/Battle Royale world, these companies have on realistic numbers to reach. And no one is taking risk anymore, except for b Nordic & Focus Hone Interactive.

  12. “Swedish video game and media holding company”
A diverse c*ckold sharing his wife with another one.

  13. I only wish this revives the chances of a Soul Reaver remaster/remake or continuation.

…And secretly, of a thief 1/2/3 resomething, and no, we don’t speak of thi4f.

And even more secretly, of a Deus Ex 1 resomething. No, i hate the consolized sequels.

    1. I’m all with a Remastered version of Legacy of Kain games, but not for the remake.

      1. Wholeheartedly agree, but i mean, the first one is so blocky and blurry that a minimum effort remaster wouldn’t quite do it.
They would have to do something like Quake Remastered with somewhat higher poly characters (and hopefully other models) before the texture up-res.

    2. About 10 years ago Warren Spector (project manager for Deus Ex: Invisible War) finally admitted that the PC version was just an afterthought. Hell, we knew that all along.

      1. I know him and the story of the franchise well; he is the mastermind behind the first one to begin.

          1. I’m just kidding, just trying to bait people but you are obviously playing around with it.

  14. Depends, some Canadian companies are making good products.
The issue with Ubisoft is that it’s main investors are absolute gutter trash.

  15. This is good example how a company didnt listen what gamers want. They keep making GaaS and shiet even though nobody want it. And here we are, they need to sell their IP to cover the loss from GaaS games….smh

  16. There’s a term for those countries, “international community”, that comprises US/Canada, Europe and Japan, so they are lockstep ideologically.

  17. This is fantastic news and all but does Embracer Group even have a single AAA game in their track record? So far they’ve yet to go woke unlike most other companies but that could easily change once they go mainstream and start producing titles that will undoubtedly attract the worst kinds of people. I hope they go more into this acquisition in their forthcoming THQ Nordic livestream event.

  18. It’s interesting you mention that because I read on another article on how this deal will push SE to invest in blockchain, AI, and the cloud. Maybe I’m reading too much into it but this could be an indication that they’re slowly shifting away from gaming to a large degree, similar to what Konami has been doing for a while it seems.

I just hope that Embracer Group can prove themselves to be worthy by prioritising gamers first as their main customers before anyone else. This is their biggest opportunity to do that given how important these IPs are. The only way to know that these guys are not associated with elites who are continually pushing their perverse agendas is by monitoring how this development will carry out going forward.

I still have no clue on how the founder of the company thinks in terms of various aspects of the gaming culture but so far based on their history I’m somewhat optimistic that all these games are in good hands. The problem therein lies the inevitable conflict with the media and activists who’ll take issue with just about anything that normal people enjoy. THQ Nordic already apologised once in the past, I just hope that sort of thing doesn’t happen again and that these companies can grow a backbone against all these unhinged critics.

  19. Embracer Group is planning to take over both Avengers and Guardians Of The Galaxy from Square Enix despite them losing money.

As fans and analysts alike try to make sense of Square Enix’s shock $300 million sale of Tomb Raider, and almost all their Western franchises and developers, the answer to the most burning question – why? – is becoming clearer.

According to senior MST Financial analyst David Gibson, the reason Square Enix sold Crystal Dynamics and Eidos-Montréal is relatively simple: between the Marvel Avengers and Guardians Of The Galaxy games they lost the company $200 million.”

  20. So, something good might happen to this IP now, instead of just wasting away and being mishandled under SE.
