Don’t expect any news for The Elder Scrolls 6 or Starfield in 2020

At E3 2018, Bethesda announced its new upcoming IP, Starfield. Starfield will be a first-person role-playing single-player space-themed adventure game. However, and similarly to last year, Bethesda will not reveal any additional details or news for it in 2020.

Bethesda’s Pete Hines has confirmed this. And while I’m pretty sure that the development of both the new The Elder Scrolls and Starfield games is going well, the team is most likely focused on Fallout 76.

From what we know so far, Starfield will be using an upgraded version of the Creation Engine. The game will also target next-generation platforms. Thus, let’s at least hope that Bethesda has resolved some of the issues that plagued its previous titles.

Pete Hines has also stated that we should not expect any news for the next The Elder Scrolls game. According to Hines, we won’t hear anything at all for The Elder Scrolls 6 for a long time.

My guess is that we may hear something about these two franchises at the next E3 event. So yeah, don’t hold your breath and be sure to stay away from any fishy rumors that may surface these coming months.

  1. No rush. They’re Bethesda games. That means they won’t be even remotely good, until they has about 5 years of mods and community fixes behind them anyways. See you in 2026 or so.

  2. “upgraded version of the Creation Engine.”

They keep duct taping this relic instead of building a new engine from scratch or heck, even use some third-party, like Unreal or CryEngine. Think about this, they’re gonna build their next-gen game, on next-gen systems, using tech that goes back to Morrowind!

    1. Fuqin unreal bro. They invested so much into that outdated engine that they can’t allow them selves to divorce from it now.

        1. an inhouse one made for open world with modding capabilities like bethesda’s engine. You cant just take a famous household engine which is not made for open world and use it for open world genius.

          1. “They keep duct taping this relic instead of building a new engine from scratch”

Learn how to read you moron

          2. you learn how to read you f*king dipsh*t. The engine works no need to build a new one for scratch to satisfy retards like you who have no idea how engines work thinking they can do everything just because they are new.

      1. Cryengine 3 is super old. It’s on version 5 right now and it’s way better than before. And how did you arrive at the conclusion that UE4 is trash?

It’s so annoying when armchair game engine “experts” showcase their “knowledge” in the comment section.

        1. Cryengine 4 is still trash and so is unreal engine 4, face it these engines are not what they used to be all games made with them are a mess.

On the contrary if you think these engines are good, you are the armchair game engine “Expert” basing your views in the past. Also this is about a open wolrd game, these two engines are not made for open world, look at sniper ghost warrior 3. Unreal engine 4 is not made for open world.

          1. This is the dumbest and least valid thing I’ve read today.

“all games made with them are a mess”? What are you talking about lmao. There’s so many games made with UE4 and CE that run perfectly fine and look great as well (e.g. Hellblade, The Climb and many more examples).

You can’t just call an engine trash and provide no reasons. My views are based in an actual understanding of how those specific engines work but the past and present only serve to reinforce that.

“The engines are not made for open world”
Ok thanks for proving that you don’t know anything about these engines. CE and UE4 both support very large open worlds. CE supports up to 64 sq km of terrain and Kingdom Come: Deliverance is an open world CE game. Even Prey, all though not open world, showcases the technology needed because the entire game takes place in one big level, which means you need all the tech features for open world including streaming, tod cycles, etc.

UE4 is literally known for Fortnite which is essentially a multiplayer open world game. A more traditional example of open world UE4 game is absolver. Both of these engines have the technical features necessary for open world, it’s up to the game devs to use them.

If you wanna criticize an engine, at the very least know what they’re capable of.

          2. It’s durka durka lmao. Who else is capable of such stunning wisdom in the comment section :p

          3. you picked two small linear games to disprove my point what are you stupid?

If your dumb ass had any understanding how these engine works you wouldnt use unreal engine and unreal as an argument for open world engines.

” Kingdom Come: Deliverance is an open world CE game. E”

with a small map filled with bugs like ghost warrior 3.

            You are an idiot.

        1. i dont think is a “real” new engine. sometime they change name to engine for biggest update (like Gamebryo > creation engine). i need to do some reserch.

          1. In the case of snowdrop, it really was new. It wasn’t an “updated” version of an older engine. It was brand new.

          2. Yes. Because if it was an extension or upgrade of an existing codebase, it would’ve been documented somewhere. I’ve seen pretty much every GDC talk relevant to Snowdrop and they make no mention of a prior engine.

Furthermore, in their “INSIDE MASSIVE – Episode 3: Tech and Tools” video at 0:50 secs one of their devs states “We create all of Snowdrop ourselves in C++” which is pretty compelling evidence that they built it from the ground up.

Lastly, they started development on Snowdrop in 2009 and the first game using it came out in 2016. A 7 year Engine + Game dev lifecycle is quite reasonable so all sources point to snowdrop being a brand new engine.

        1. did you really belive they rebuild from skracth UE 5? lolz

even the source engine 2 is a rebuild of a rebuild of quake engine:

          id tech 1.5 > gold source > source > source 2

    2. “upgraded version of the Creation Engine.”

In one aspect they even downgraded it with Skyrim SE relative to Skyrim by having completely removed parallax textures. It’s only thanks to the great modding community that Skyrim SE is now beginning to get parallax textures.

      1. Skyrim LE didn’t have parallax either (at least not in the way that it’s most commonly used: POM. SLE supported “multi-layer parallax” which was a bit different and used for transparent objects like ice)

The excellent modding community added that feature in both versions of the game.

  3. they should close bethesda, give fallout and tes to some other far more capable studios, so we can get proper fallout and tes and not some Faulty software with gameplay elements

    1. True, i also prefer silence over showing some CGI half a minute teaser that tells nothing about the game…like they did a couple of years ago.

      1. I didn’t mind that. It was just a direct.. here it is… it wont be ready for years so please quit asking. Bethesda may make buggy games. But I really love their release model aka Reveal fallout 4 at e3 and say it comes out in 6 months. Always loved that!

        1. Yeah, that reveal was better than the game itself…you have fanmade games way better than what they did in the last decade.

          1. They pretty much stated they were only showing and revealing that just so people would shut up. It wasn’t really to hype the game. I usually hate little cgi teasers but in this one case it was perfectly fine imo

          2. Fair enough, but they know that even something like that won’t stop fans (yeah, Bethesda still have those) asking each month about any progress of the game…nobody wins.

  4. Don’t worry I wasn’t. I sure wish they would shut down that garbage Fallout 76 though and stop wasting those multiple game studios lives on it. You only live once and imagine spending a day of your life, wasting away, working on that complete and utter trash………… and STILL working on it nearly 2 years on.

  5. This is becoming a meme at this point. Bethesda takes almost as long as R* does with their games, except they turn out to run like ar*e (which R*’s tend to as well).

  6. I am sure they are working hard on it to make sure it doesn’t have many bugs, a new engine and no microtransactions.
Also I am lying out of my a*s. Bethesda seems to be run by incompetent monkeys.

  7. you picked two small linear games to disprove my point what are you stupid?

If your dumb a*s had any understanding how these engine works you wouldnt use unreal engine and unreal as an argument for open world engines.
