And another one bites the dust. Bandai Namco has just announced that it will shut down the servers of GUNDAM EVOLUTION on November 29th, 2023.
GUNDAM EVOLUTION was a team-based FPS in which you pilot Mobile Suits from the smash hit Gundam anime. This was another “Games as a Service” product that had lots of microtransactions and forced players to grind so that they could upgrade their mechs. Thus, we’re not that surprised by this news.
What’s funny here is that a single-player GUNDAM game could be a success. However, a PVP/GaaS game is easier to create and a lot of developers are still chasing that “Destiny success“. Hell, even Anthem and Marvel’s Avengers failed to provide “that” experience. And don’t get me started with Babylon’s Fall and Disintegration.
To its credit, GUNDAM EVOLUTION was a free-to-play game. So, contrary to the aforementioned titles, you could at least try it without paying any money.
The developers also claimed that they will release some new content for the game. Season 6, which will add a new unit and two maps, will come out on August 23rd. Then, the game’s final season, which will add a new unit and a map, will release on October 25th.
Anyway, this is another PVP/GaaS game that failed to attract a big audience. Or should I say that there aren’t any “GUNDAM whales” out there to keep this game afloat?
You can still go ahead and give this GUNDAM game a go. The game currently has Mixed reviews on Steam, so don’t expect much from it!

Mobile Shït Gundam!

Good riddance to trash games like this.
In a perfect gaming world, all GaAS games would fail. Then dn companies would stop with this crap. The industry needs to go back to the golden days, when games were made for fun gameplay, not insidious ways to mine customers wallets.
In a perfect world, you wouldn’t be alive.
In a perfect world, we’d be allowed to murder people like you.
This is to be expected for a game like this one.
could it be that we reached peak games as a service.
I miss the days when I bought a good Single player FPS that also gave multiplayer which you could run your own server.
I still run a HLDS server btw. ( Dont laugh!)
Who asked for a Gundam skinned Overwatch clone? People who’re already playing OW will just keep playing OW.
This is the same case whenever the industry tries to jump on the latest MP game bandwagon. Eg look at all of the dead WoW clone MMOs, DotA/LoL clone MOBAs; dead open world survival games; dead Battle Royale games.
Ah, yes. Those “live service” games. Bask in the “service”.
Game preservation is dead.
