Starfield new feature 2

Starfield DLSS 3 Mod available for download and yes it has a DRM

Following the free DLSS 2/XeSS Mod for Starfield, PureDark released the DLSS 3 Frame Generation Mod for it. This mod is only available to the modder’s Patrons and yes, it does have a DRM protection.

The DRM that the mod uses is similar to the one PureDark added to the DLSS 3 Frame Generation Mod for Red Dead Redemption 2.

After becoming a Patron and downloading the mod from his Discord server, players will have to authenticate it. What’s crucial to note is that any account that has subscribed to PureDark’s Patreon will be able to pass the authentication procedure. In other words, the mod does not require an active membership. If you have subscribed and then unsubscribed from PureDark’s Patreon, you’ll still be able to pass authentication. Also, after your first authentication, the mod won’t ever ask you to re-authenticate it.

According to reports, Starfield is very heavy on older CPUs. Thus, owners of RTX 40 series GPUs may greatly benefit from this DLSS 3 Frame Generation Mod. It would have been great if Starfield had native support for DLSS 3 Frame Generation. However, since this was an AMD-sponsored title, Bethesda decided to give the finger to all NVIDIA RTX 40 series owners. From the elevated black levels to the lack of HDR and an FOV slider, the PC version of Starfield feels a bit lackluster. Ironically, Starfield is not even among the upcoming games to use FSR 3.0.

For those wondering, an AMD Ryzen 9 7950X3D is more than enough for 1440p/Ultra Settings. Even at 1080p/Ultra, we were mostly GPU-bound in our initial benchmarks. And that was with both an NVIDIA RTX 4090 and an AMD RX 7900XTX.

Speaking of Starfield Mods, I also suggest using this guide to improve the game’s FOV.

Lastly, I’ve heard reports that ReBAR could potentially improve performance on NVIDIA’s hardware. Since we’ve already seen some huge performance gains with ReBAR in Dead Space Remake, I’ll be sure to test it.

Stay tuned for more!

    1. He’s not promoting it – just sharing the news which I always appreciate even when it’s not appetizing (like this article).

He’s being professional, I get it. Try hosting a site and getting review codes and pleasing everyone.

      But.

I do rather he go balls out and be more opinionated because when he does share what he really thinks – it’s pretty damned lively and resonates with us.

We shouldn’t complain about filler, imo.

      1. I’m pretty sure there are other (free) mods that he never got around to covering it, or even refuses to cover it.

  1. PureDark needs to expand his horizons. Start inserting ads into his work. Maybe do the Microsoft thing and spy on people’s browsing habits through his mod and sell the info. Perhaps even attach a mining program to his mod to make use of people’s hardware when not in use.

    /s

  2. It was not posted on PureDark’s patreon yet, and it’s not on the high seas. So how did John know about it? Well, your guess is as good as mine.

  3. What are the odds the devs themselves release these paid mods instead of fixing their game in order to get even more money from the poor schmucks? No publisher ever shut down these paid mods AFAIK.

  4. This “frame generation” tech just sounds like voodoo to me. Does it legit increase the playability of games?

I suppose I’ll find out once FSR 3 is out (i.e. which supposedly has compatibility with RTX 2000/3000 series). I sure as hell ain’t upgrading to a RTX 4000 series just for one gimmick tech and certainly not for one that I’m not sold on.

    1. Yes. One great example is Jedi Survivor for PC. It has bad optimizations all around, bad CPU utilization and all as proven by same performance even on lower settings. I understand that’s your stance because you haven’t tried it yet.

Frame Generation made Jedi Survivor very playable. Imagine having a 4090 but Jedi Survivor runs only at 60-70fps @ 4K with drops below 60. Yes, it’s that bad. Modding DLSS + Frame Generation into it, it never dropped below 100fps.

It’s a game changer. I already tried DLSS+Frame Generation mod for Starfield and at CPU heavy areas, my FPS went from averaging 60fps+ to 110fps+ with a 4090. What more if devs actually optimize their games properly.
