The team behind CEMU has released a new version of its amazing WiiU emulator. This version fixes the visual artifacts when using higher resolutions in The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild and Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze, and improves graphics in Bayonetta 2.
In addition, this new version of CEMU improves the loading times in Yoshi’s Woolly World, fixes some visuals in Splatoon, and adds a memory scanner.
CEMU 1.8.0 is now available to all patreon backers, and will be made available to everyone on May 30th.
Here is the complete changelog for CEMU 1.8.0:
- general: Added memory scanner (search and filter for values)
- general: If Cemu is maximized to fullscreen, it will remain on the same monitor rather than defaulting to the primary monitor
- RPL: Optimized loading of RPLs
- GX2: Cemu now uses separable shaders
Vertex, geometry and pixel shaders are split into separate and independent programs rather than bundling them into setsThis change breaks compatibility with pre-1.8.0 shader caches and graphic packs (if they contain shaders) - GX2: Added support for using the same texture multiple times with different sampler parameters during a single drawcall
- GX2: Graphic pack texture rules will automatically scale gl_FragCoord
- GX2: Implemented shader instructions RECIPSQRT_FF and RECIP_FF
- GX2: GPU7 shader decompiler will output slightly more optimized GLSL code
- GX2: Better detection for invalidation of data in Streamout cache
- GX2: Optimized frequently used GX2 API
- GX2: Optimized texture decoding
- GX2: Added command line option ‘-nsight’ to allow debugging via NVIDIA Nsight

Not a big fan of Zelda but what i really want them to do is emulate Bayonetta 2 perfectly, I mean who wouldn’t want that it is the best hack and slash game of the decade beside no hack and slash game has ever scored a perfect 10 ! and this game my friendz just nailed it.
Nice. I’m no expert on these matters but a number of those bullet-points seem to suggest the possibility of improved performance or at least the path to future improved performance.
When I don’t understand things–most of the time–I look pensive, with my knuckle resting on my chin as I nod and then I’ll say something like “How will this affect inter and cross-departmental synergy? Can we both diversify our strategy and ensure maximum output efficacy using this method you’ve detailed here?”
Then my wife hits me with her purse.
Smart lady
I hope they improve the pixel density on Bayonetta’s @ss. That’s what’s most important.
Emulator devs are truly saviors. What a shame that a few excellent games were stuck to a worthless and irrelevant piece of hardware. Now they can truly live on forever.

What’s funny is that if Nintendo would re-release all of their games for the PC platform, with all the expected traits (unlocked resolution/framerate/aspect-ratio, 4K+ textures, native controller/kb/mouse controls, HDR, all forms of AA/AO, etc.), a bunch of us would just throw money at them, just like SEGA is finding out until now (see Bayonetta and Vanquish PC releases for a baseline recipe on how to do things).
I am still waiting for ‘Primal’ to be emulated with PCSX2. This is why console exclusives are so goddamn annoying.
Amazing, the skills of these guys are out of hand.
Man I really wish the Switch held off its release and they put a Tegra X2, better CPU(doubled the cores) and bumped up the system memory to at least 6 – 8gigs.
The extra juice from this emu on the Wii U BOTW sure shows what a beefier Switch could have been able to achieve or even gone beyond, what a shame. I have BOTW on my Wii U and it owns, but this is really awesome.
If they implement a 60fps hack they will truly be gods
Yes, but not perfect yet.
I dont think it can run at 60fps until they implement some sort of injection/add on/hack to make it do so since it was designed for 30fps. Correct me if im wrong but emulators cant run at framerates the game never supported in the first place without some modifications.
Well thats good news then if it is softlocked and not hardlocked, 60fps breath of the wild would be great
