Steam Sets New Record for Concurrent Users – Over 14 Million Steam Users Online Simultaneously

Today, Steam set a new record for concurrent users. As we can see, there were 14,370,167 Steam users online a couple of hours ago. And to be honest, it took Steam a while to reach that milestone. After all, back in November 2015, we reported Steam reaching 13 million Steam users online simultaneously.

In other words, it took Steam more than a year to hit 14 million Steam users being online at the same time, something that did not happen even during Steam’s Winter Sale 2016 event.

According to Steam’s graphs, DOTA 2 was the most played game today as it peaked at 901,129 gamers. Counter-Strike: Global Offensive comes second, followed by Grand Theft Auto V and Football Manager 2017. ARK: Survival Evolved is in fifth place, followed by Team Fortress 2, Rocket League, RUST, Garry’s Mod and Civilization V.

  1. just cause 3 multiplayer mod is out and very few play it, it’s buggy as hell. steam is getting worse everyday

    1. It also features a nasty bug in consoles. I mean, man, it’s capped at 30 FPS. With dips into the mid teens. It’s a bug right? No game should be played at 30 FPS.

      1. Don’t bother feeding him. All he does is troll. Might as well block him because he’ll never contribute anything meaningful to any conversation.

    1. no one plays age of empires and old strategies these days, it’s there because it was on sale for a very cheap price

          1. it’s there because it was dirt cheap on sales, do you have a comprehension of what’s been said here?

          2. What? That’s your actual ‘reasoning’? There are BOATLOADS of games that were heavily discounted over the years and even given for free, so? That doesn’t mean people actually play them fairly constantly.

          3. is it hard to reach this conclusion that the only reason people are playing it is because it was cheap on sale and playerbase is going to drop after couple weeks?

          4. It’s not hard, it’s just a stupid and wrong assumption. As I said before, many, many games were heavily discounted over the years, that doesn’t mean people play them. I have games that I got for free that I have never played yet.

          5. now i don’t want to play day one garry’s incident for $0.001, would i?you might not want to play your low quality indie game you got for free but you do not represent majority of people, generally people like free stuff specially when it comes to known games, that’s why when a websites announces giveaway their views multiplies. where are you from?why do you struggle this much to understand a simple issue

          6. Look, people play AoE 2 because it’s a huge franchise and pretty much your go-to real time strategy game and content is still being put out for it.

Forget about indies and look at this:

AoE 2 HD owners: 4 million

Left 4 Dead owners: 4.5 million – this game is always heavily discounted AND was given for FREE

Portal owners: 10 million (!) – this game is always heavily discounted AND was given for FREE

So you see, according to your ‘reasoning’ L4D and Portal should be way higher than AoE 2 HD in that list, but guess what… they’re nowhere to be seen. You know why? I’ll remind you just in case: it’s because you say dumb sh*t like, and I quote: ”no one plays age of empires and old strategies these days, it’s there because it was on sale for a very cheap price”

  2. I hope all Publishers see this news. And think long and hard about it. If they want our business. They will have their developers optimize right for PC versions. If they want our money they should do the right thing to gain it.

    1. half of this userbase is csgo smurf accounts and recently failure of piracy had a lot of impact on this userbase, they buy a game and share it via offline mode

      1. 14.000.000 total concurrent players. From those, 476k are playing CSGO.

Yeah, ‘half’, I guess you should revise kindergarten math.

        1. thanks i’m an engineer, i know a little bit of math but not a lot compared to intelligent 18 year olds like you here, anyways, do you understand bigger concurrent players mean bigger user base?

          1. am i that miserable to face such beings?i’m assuming english is your native language?why do you struggle to understand it?my grammar is far from ok but you should at least have a basic understanding of what i said so far

    2. there’s also many accounts dedicated only to games like dota2 also many console gamers make an account only for a specific game like totalwar warhammer, xcom2 and etc

  3. I love how GTA 5 is always on the list and yet we wont get RDR 2… GJ Rockstar. You suck, i almost wish PC gamers didn’t make you popular so you wouldn’t exist.

    P.s. I said almost ;p GTA 5 is great ;p

    1. Sadly, the hype will get to people and cause them to buy the console version at launch. Once the PC version hits, they’ll double dip for the better experience and R* knows it. Sh*tty way to treat your fans, but undeniably profitable.

  4. meanwhile SONY is celebrating 50.4M PS4 sold and 8.7M units of Uncharted 4 copies sold and folks here are rejoicing about 14M concurrent users. There isn’t ONE single PC game that will sell 8M copies in short period of time.

    1. Diablo 3 called……

It sold 6.3 million copies in the first week, not the first 6 months – as a PC-exclusive that wasn’t even on Steam.

      Here, have some Prep H.

      1. Diablo 3 is not PC exclusive.. It’s available on PS4 and XB1. In fact the game actually was designed for consoles in mind. Also.. that was how many years ago. Try comparing any PC titles this year or maybe last? Lmao.

        1. So? It came to consoles 1.5 YEARS later, so the eventual console ports really have absolutely NOTHING at all to do with the initial sales numbers – try again, troll.

Also, so what if it was a sh*tty console game from the start? Again, nothing at all to do with initial sales figures – try again, shill.

Yeah, it was a few years ago, so what? How many other platform exclusives can you say actually cleared your 8 million target in the first week/month from launch, EVER, anyway? Yeah, exactly.
