For Honor – All future DLCs will be free, closed beta phase begins next month

Ubisoft has revealed that all future DLCs for For Honor will be completely free to everyone. As For Honor’s director Damien Kieken claimed, the team does not want to split the community, which is why it will be offering all DLCs for free.

As Kieken said:

“So everything that’s matchmade [including] new modes and new maps, will be given for free to the players. We’ll also have other free content. We are a big team supporting the game after launch.”

Now this does not mean that the game won’t feature microtransactions. As Kieken clarified:

“On the monetisation side. The idea is that we allow players to buy more Steel. It’s just a shortcut. Everything is unlockable just by playing the game. And all shortcuts are tied to progression, so you can’t unlock an end-game item right away.”

Ubisoft has also announced that the For Honor Closed Beta will be available in January 2017. Players will be able to step onto the war-torn lands of Ashfeld, Valkenheim and Myre with brand new multiplayer experiences that showcase the age old war between Vikings, Samurai and Knights.

In order to celebrate these announcements, Ubisoft released some new trailers for For Honor that can be viewed below.

  1. From what i seen about this game, it looks like its gonna be forgotten pretty fast. So dont give em any money. Let them fail.

  2. I really don’t like Ubisofts direction of MP focused games. But damn, Ubisoft makes some really good MP focused games…

    1. Don’t encourage them. Ubisoft have always wanted to corner the MP market with its games. When they were still enforcing the always-online DRM for its PC titles, Ubisoft planned to revived a lot of its classic PC titles into MMOs like Silent Hunter Online. That plan seemed to die alongside the DRM but there were signs that Ubisoft was not willing to let it go.

  3. I don’t like it. The characters are overdesigned, and the devs had to follow this cringey diversity trend which makes them even more vague. It’s Ubisoft after all.

  4. “everything that’s matchmade [including] new modes and new maps, will be given for free to the players”

Read: The important DLC will not be tied to match-making.

  5. People already pay $60 for the game, and microtransactions on top?

This is the type of behaviour I don’t support, this game won’t last much.

    1. Yeah, I love how the industry is trying to make this out to be an “it’s either a paid DLC deal, or a micro-transactions deal!” now, which is really just an excuse for them to keep pushing paid post-launch content onto us, in one form or another.

      1. The only thing the game industry has to offer is the kind of deal Tyler Durden offers when he’s getting out of a plane.

      1. Maybe in your country, most of us are smarter than that.

Almost no one pays $60 for a game nowadays, you can get them for $25~30 on launch day.

And after a year you can that game for $10 or less.

Plus that’s even the issue at hand, microtransactions that are the issue, that crap is for free games were the developers need to make money from somewhere to keep it running.

  6. YES exactly, YOU LIKE KNIGHTS, YOU LIKE VIKINGS AND SAMURAIS, WE MIX THEM TOGETHER…like little kids playing with toys.

Then we have a combat system that every character takes a bazillion of hits and a awful online with typical ubisoft netcode and a mp that will be dead in a few months.

  7. Are we going to have another Rainbow Six: Siege situation wherein the non-microtransaction buyers have to grind the living f*cking sh*t out of everything?

…. Oh, why am I even asking.

    1. It’s Ubisoft. One step forward, two steps back.

I’m surprised at the mess AAA games are in these days. Going to take another 5-10 years till we get back to the stage where you bought the game and weren’t gouged for money nor punished for not spending a lot on it.

  8. Hollywood loves Vikings, Medieval Knights, & Vikings, so……

    Let’s mash-’em-up!

I mean, what could possibly be wrong with that image?

Hopefully this “let’s copy Hollywood’s generic-as-f*ck bullsh*t” fad ends sooner, rather than later.

    1. If Hollywood was just lazy…

But they are so politically partisan people are now starting to see through the smoke how fascist they are…

Let’s re-interpret the constitution and pressure the electoral college by using the usual social shaming and scaremongering tactics, right?

    2. Fury Road, John Wick, off the top of my head. Then there’s Deadpool & Room, & some more case-by-case basis movies. We were actually rather fortunate these last couple of years, the CBM’s soaked up so much of Hollywood’s money, they threw out a lot of under-the-radar stuff that either picked up or died off on its own.

Also, Rogue One I hear is actually a good, non-kiddie oriented war movie, so that might be something. Not that I don’t agree, for the record; they make an inordinate amount of bullsh*t, & 2016 really wasn’t a great year in terms of quality, but yeah.

P.S. Greedy idiots going for a trilogy on a 250-page book (Hobbit)….. How exactly did they think that was going to turn out for them, I wonder.

      1. Jackson came on-board with little time in pre-production after Del Toro dropped off because the sh*tshow was taking too long. Unfortunately, instead of flexing his muscles, putting his foot down & saying “I’m Peter Jackson, if I say I want more time, I get more time!” he instead decided to work himself near to death, & even just bend over & take it when they told him they were over-extending the project from 2 movies into 3.

If you see the behind-the-scenes stuff, you’ll see Jackson was definitely into it, but yeah, he also… I don’t know, really. It’s weird. The only thing I can really, conclusively state is that he dropped the ball, but most likely not on purpose.

    3. Ok oh boy, here we go.

      The Nice Guys
      Sicario
      Bridge of Spies
      The Revenant
      Son of Saul
      Deadpool
      Doctor Strange
      Captain America Civil War
      Arrival
      10 Cloverfield Lane
      Don’t Breathe
      Hell or High Water
      Green Room
      Zootopia
      Sully
      Pete’s Dragon
      The Jungle Book
War Dogs (If you haven’t you need to check this)
      Midnight Special
      Mad Max Fury Road

were you seriously asleep the last two years? or were you in a coma?

If from all of these there is not even one you watched or liked, then the problem isn’t really with hollywood.

      1. Hm, so it’s not directed at me, but since I can’t resist such lists;

        – Nice Guys; not bad, not amazing, either, honestly.
        – Sicario; excellent. In my opinion, not only the best Drug War movie since Traffic, but also an excellent movie, period.
        – Bridge of Spies; got tired of Tom Hanks’ propaganda movies, so I skipped this one entirely. Heard mixed things.
        – The Revenant; Excellent, albeit, slightly overrated.
        – Son of Saul; skipped it, got tired of WW2 movies about the Victim Jews long ago. Nothing personal.
        – Deadpool; F*cking hilarious. Thank f*ck it made so much money, we might actually FINALLY get some real R-rated CBM’s now.
        – Doctor Strange; Haven’t seen this one yet. Heard some good things. This could finally be, a[nother] Marvel movie that’ll most likely stand the test of time…..
        – Civil War; What a f*cking joke – though I admit, at least it wasn’t as bad as Brandmania v. Sun God: Dawn of the Bullsh*t.
        – Arrival; haven’t seen this one yet either. Heard some great things. Who knows, we might finally have a new Sci-Fi Classic on our hands…..
        – 10 Cloverfield Lane; Stuck on my backlog. Heard mixed things.
        – Don’t Breathe; heard some good things. Look at that, actually original horror. Or, well, “original”, but yeah.
        – Hell or High Water; Also on my backlog, heard good things.
        – Green Room; Uh? Okay, if you say so…..
        – Zootopia; Eh, sure, I guess.
        – Sully; Yay, more Tom Hanks American Hero bullsh*t. /Eyeroll.
        – Pete’s Dragon; Haven’t seen this one [yet].
        – Jungle Book; great, though I still prefer the animated version.
        – War Dogs; agreed.
        – Midnight Special; Eh?
        – Fury Road; WITNESS ME, BLOOD BAG!

        1. I mean you at least get my point right, and can agree that “seriously not 1 good film came from them this past two years ” is not so accurate.

          1. Oh yeah, I even mentioned a couple of others myself, below; John Wick, Room, & I hear Rogue One is a great war movie.

You catch the Black & White cut of Fury Road, btw? 😀

          2. John Wick is great, so is Room. Can’t wait for JW2. Not a huge Star Wars Fan, wasn’t so keen on the force awakens but wanna see Rogue One, if only for Donnie Yen and Felicity Jones.

          1. Disgracefully bad adaptation of Baron Zemo (big comic book reader), right there underneath Ben Kingsley as the Mandarin, only to reveal him as a f*cking joke, & also the whole “everything has to go right for the villain’s plot to actually have worked properly, so, for example, if even a single thing had gone differently, all of this would have never happened – for example, if Tony Stark had chosen to forgive the Winter Soldier, then Zemo killing all the Supersoldiers would have been the dumbest sh*t ever.

Alternatively, if Steve had ever even just mentioned that night to Stark, even once, he’d probably have figured it out for himself, for example, & so on, & so forth. It’s just one of “those” movies wherein the over-convoluted story basically results in a giant joke with little to no replay value, once you realise exactly how moronic it really is.

Then of course there’s Mopey Stark, & worst of all, IMO, the fact that he, the so-called genius was too emotional to see the simple truth of the situation; his father got his mother killed by working on weapons. It might be childish to look at it like this, but it’s also true; it’s his fault the Winter Soldier assaulted them that night, as it wasn’t just about killing him, it was also about stealing the formula. His mother was just an innocent who also got killed, because “wrong place wrong time.”

Besides that, Freeway Cameras in the 1970s? Yeah, OK, sure….. Not to mention, oh! Yeah, uh, we (USSR) didn’t destroy such sensitive evidence of the existence of a Top Secret Supersoldier, because…… [reasons]. That one fat old guy wanted to show it off to someone, or some such sh*t? Whatever.

There’s just way too much story bullsh*t, especially when you compare it to Winter Soldier, not to mention how half the characters are completely flat (development-wise) because the cast is too large, etc. etc. etc. The so-called genius that was Tony Stark acted more like an idiot than anything throughout all this, which is quite different to how he was portrayed in the original Civil War comic. Also, the reasoning behind the Sekovia Accords is flimsy as f*cking sh*t, & so is all that “check out all the damage you f*ckers caused” scene with General Ross.

Hell, even the script has serious issues; “Vision: there’s a direct correlation between super-people, & super-events.” WHAT THE F*CK? It’s like he’s implying Thanos is their fault, which is ridiculous. The Tesseract was hidden on Earth by the Asgardians, so if anyone’s to blame, it’s them, since he’d be coming there for it eventually, regardless of the Super’s existence. Yeah, sure, he doesn’t know about him, & all that other sh*t, but even so…. what a ridiculously stupid line.

Also, about half of what Spider-Man said was “hold on, I have to pause this so I can throw up now” lines. His performance & casting was fine, but some of those lines…… mid-fight, he just decides to shout out “YOU HAVE THE RIGHT TO REMAIN SILENT!” *facepalm* What. The. F*ck.

The action was great, don’t get me wrong, the Russo Brothers gave us more great[-ish] cinematography, (those GIANT WHITE LOCATION PANELS aside), etc. but….. yeah, the good stuff here is just not enough, honestly, especially considering what this is a sequel to. It’s not quite as bad as Age of Ultron, but it comes damn near close to it. Thankfully it still manages to be miles better than Age of Apocalypse, & Dawn of the Jokes, if nothing else.

Not to mention how – SPOILERS FOR THE ENDING HERE; Nothing actually happened. I mean, sure, now there’s two Avengers teams, but so what? Civil War (OG) ended on a seriously dark note, whereas this one gave us…. Tony Stank, & the Wonder Twins taking some Physical Therapy time. Gee, good sh*t. Yeah, really good sh*t. NOT.

          2. I don’t necessarily disagree with your points, I just don’t see it as huge issues and with movies such as this, I don’t look too deep into it to be honest.

          3. I don’t either, usually (the action scenes were great, no argument there), but considering it’s a sequel to Winter Soldier, a movie that asked you to actually think, I treated it as a movie that asked me to actually think, & by those standards……. it just sucked.

          4. To be honest, I went into the movie with the Avengers 2.5 mentality. I agree Winter Soldier’s plot was way better yes.

          5. Same, I expected it to be Avengers 2.5: Civil War, but since it was the Russo Brothers directing, rather than Joss Whedon (& again, sequel to Winter Soldier & all that, mentioned above), I also expected a “turn your mind on” movie, rather than a weird romp.

      2. Napoleonic movie?

If only, Master and Commander: The Far Side of the World is underrated and deserves a sequel. Unfortunately, its stars are too busy making schlock like The Nice Guys (and the Marvel films), and having to throw psychotic Azealia Banks out of his hotel room to get around to it.

    4. Technically you’re right as Kingsman: The Secret Service came out in 2014, but it as it didn’t see real theatrical release until 2015 I’m going to disagree.

  9. That is Ubisoft he is talking about, not CD Projekt Red or some indie dev. Even if I’m not sure about the second part, he is spot on regarding the first part.

  10. The Golden Age of Hollywood is called that for a reason, sure, but it doesn’t mean there aren’t some standouts even in today’s age.
