Battlefield 1 – Feast your eyes on these incredible leaked concept arts

Battlefield 1 is one of the most anticipated games of 2016, and below you can find a lot of its concept arts (that were leaked from IMGUR’s member ‘‘). We rarely share concept arts but you really need to see these ones for Battlefield 1. It will make you understand why EA has greenlit such a project. If DICE comes close to them, then we’re in for a treat. Enjoy!

  1. fantastic pieces of art, but i’ve played enough of the BF games not appreciate how they’ll play out in game.

  2. Artworks are only cool on their own, they don’t really represent the game (maybe except for introducing the locations in which the game takes place).

      1. And they could be dubbed as “random WWI artworks by some random artist”.
So I dislike when people think the game will be better just because of those drawings’ quality.
It’s like thinking that a phone will be better just because some celebrity advertised it.

        1. I’m not seeing anyone show that they think that concept art somehow has any links to the game’s quality.

  3. Why did they censor the German crosses in the first picture from left and second row from bottom? That’s ridiculous.

      1. Ummm… “CONCEPT ART”… As an artist myself, sometimes you leave it loose. Also, the angle on the wing is awkward. Not Saying this IS the explanation, just suggesting it might be innocuous.

        1. But this element really looks like censorship and I don’t see any other reason for someone doing that. Like a black square over someone’s crotch.
I’m sure the artist didn’t do that because they were so inept that they couldn’t draw a cross.

          1. I don’t think you understand concept art and development. I highly doubt they are censoring “concept art” more like the artist was not getting that detailed, not inept. Keep it loose. It allows the freedom for the next stage of design to develop. But sure, you can believe what you will, conspiracy and all…

          2. Not conspiracy, just excessive fear from being politically incorrect.
At least what I see there.
The plane isn’t far (small) enough to justify replacing such characteristic crosses with dull squares.
Much detail in backgrounds of those concept arts even improves this argument.
Why didn’t they replace distant rifles with squares, too? Haha.

          3. Okay, I just found something: Turkish Air Force had similar insignia.
            So it must be it.
“artist was not getting that detailed” wasn’t a good argument in this case (overall LoD was high), and now it got destroyed.

          4. Good job researching instead of sticking with your preconceived viewpoint. I’m glad I could stimulate some rationality for you. Good beta BTW

          5. Explain, what did you mean there by “good beta”? I’m not familiar with today’s juvenile, hotheaded speak, it’s not my cup of tea, though I’m not really old.
Tell me, did you consider your argument strong? Because it really wasn’t. No hostility there, just facts. Knowing that the rest of artworks have detailed backgrounds, how likely it is that the artist will choose to make one arbitrary thing lack detail so badly? Using analogical thinking, they’re very, very small.
I assumed that that plane was German because of its characteristic colors. Even colors of emblems were right for me. But shapes weren’t.
And I wouldn’t ever in the world assume that such a dull square can be someone’s insignia.
So it reminded me of a very common problem of today’s games: swastikas that are changed to straight crosses. Such depiction bothers me because it hurts realism. So I thought this was another invention of political correctness agenda.
Of course it turns out that I was wrong.

Oh, and chances that I would stumble upon this plane illustration weren’t high, I suppose. My query was: “battlefield 1 concept art planes german cross”. If one person hadn’t posted that one picture in a forum thread, I would’ve still thought it’s some stupid censorship right there.

          6. Beta, is information. It is good beta to know what plane it actually was. So in other words I was complimenting your research. Good info, man! Don’t be so negative 😉 Also, was it a good argument? As a concept artist, I recognize some things that might pass by others. Like for instance you said the shots have detailed backgrounds. That is most likely because they used photo reference and painted over it. Its not a bad practice, it is a useful tool for concept phase of a project. For instance you could say that say Photo 8 has an incredibly detailed background. It does, but not because the artist actually painted every piece of strata in the rock. The artist used photo reference and painted over it, possibly even used a simple filter to get the desired look, and was done with it. No reason to fiddle with too much from scratch artistry for concept phase. Look at Image 2. The landscape is most likely based on an actual aerial photo. The wood & barbwire post on image 3 is real loose compared to the zeppelin in the background. Image 14 and 15 is extremely apparent their is photo reference used. The plane being loose concept I can imagine it lacking certain hand drawn details though the background may be slightly more detailed. So good argument. Sure, if that’s what this was supposed to be, I took my knowledge and applied it to the scene you dispute is being censored. (BTW, I was more trying to relieve whatever type of anti-political correctness of your reactionary accusation). But new info has entered the scene. I had wrong conclusions about the plane insignia. And because of your conspiratorial curiosity and stubborn resolve we have both learned something about WW1 plane insignias that put both of our honest immediate reasoning to rest. For that I thank you. Peace.

          7. Haha, sarcasm can’t be detected very well when it comes to comments. So I thought that your last sentence felt ironical. Sorry for the confusion.
By the way, except for the Greek letter and an early version of software, I’ve only heard “beta” used in the pejorative sense. Thanks for not wanting to start a brainless war, so common on the internet :P.

  4. Let’s hope the game isn’t crap like Battlefront was. I know its a different beast, but DICE still made it, and they could very well implement design choices from that game onto this one, such as lack of content, and oversimplified gameplay.

      1. Because Battlefield 3 & 4 were such masterpieces?

Everything post-BC2 has been an utter disgrace from DICE, I don’t expect that to change anytime soon because “yeah, we’re amping up team play.”

      2. I’m will mistake them all I want, their last bread and butter came out completely broken, and it needed months to repair the damage.

I don’t know about you, I’m don’t forgive screw ups like that so easily. And two of them in a row doesn’t help their case either.

  5. Whoever did the artwork deserves to get a shitload of money. Lets hope the game is 10 % as cool as the pics. Battlefront looked good too.. butttttttttttttttttttttttt. Yea.
