Cloud Imperium has launched yet another “Free Fly” event this week. This basically means that PC gamers can go ahead, download and try the game for free until this Friday. This free event gives players access to the Star Citizen 2.1.2 Alpha build, as well as to the Social Module and the Arena Commander.
Going into more details:
- Star Citizen Alpha 2.1.2 – Also known as Crusader or the “mini-PU,” this is the nucleus of the world we’re building! Featuring multiple space stations and environments, scripted missions, places to explore and more, Alpha 2.1.2 is your first look at a much larger universe!
- Arena Commander – Arena Commander is a ‘game within a game’ that we’ve used to develop our flight mechanics and ship combat balance. Take on human opponents or an AI swarm in single seat fighter.
- Social Module – Interact with other players while you explore our first landing zone, ArcCorp! The Social Module is intended as a starting point for our world building.
Those interested can register and start downloading the game from here.

What happened to the “This game is a scam” and “Will never be finished” people? Haven’t seen them in a while.
They have locked themselves in their basements in fear of chem trails.
I don’t know, but it’s still isn’t finished, and still probably a scam. The horrors Escapist wrote…
Probably too busy with their peasant consoles.
It would take me the whole week just to download it hahaha
Haha
Ha
…
:/
And to get into it.
What do you mean? It is too complex? ARE YOU CALLING ME DUMB KYLE? ?_?
No, I’ll leave that up to you (-_-)
Well, you’re not wrong but, shhhh don’t spread it mate! >.<
How can it be called free if you are beeing forced to buy a ship for $45?
“Free Fly accounts will have access to the Hornet F7C military fighter, the Aurora LN starter and the Mustang Delta interceptor.”
Funny, the installer crashed twice for me. One when doing the directx silent install and the second when running the launcher (even with admin permissions).
Not a very smooth start! 🙂
Well that happens even in released games. The problem now days is that people get invited to play alpha games when they should be testing, not playing like a final game.
crazy prices jesus. that fu*cking Chris Roberts i tell yah.
It’s called free because it is free. I didn’t really get your joke, but probably you are mimicking those whiners who cried that you were forced to buy all ships for a total of $20000.
It’s called reading comprehension.
Who’s got time for reading manuals these days?
I am having so much fun with it! multi crew ships are awsome!
Whether it’s the 40FPS in corridors with the simplest of geometric shapes and lighting or the empty ships that spaz up and down on the launch pad for no reason as you try to climb on board (nausea without VR, that’s some achievement) or the horrendous clipping or the garbage detection prompts, this is a $100,000000 cosmic joke.
Mind you I look forward to the documentary covering the developers enviable journey into the law courts
The game is very complex, there is no game that can do what SC it attempting to do, have fun testing instead of complaining.
I’m surprised how well its runs now on 2.1.2 compared to 2.1.0, Getting some decent SLI performance.
I like how you can play it for free so often. It’s like 5th time now.
That game is weird. I downloaded it launched and I’m on the base, a lot of other people jumping around, nothing is active apart from some doors. Is that it or am I missing something?
I’ve tried the tutorial. JFC what a stutterfest !!!! This game literally MURDERED my i5 2500K 4.8Ghz and GTX 980 1.53Ghz.
Even on the lowest settings I got 5 second pauses every 5 seconds. In the current state that game is completely unplayable.
Literally, really?
Yes, I could even see the Roberts’ almighty hand squeezing on my WC pipes. My CPU and GPU still did not recover fully from the shock.
