A couple of days ago, Capcom revealed that Dragon’s Dogma: Dark Arisen will be coming to Steam. And given Capcom’s recent digital sales report, this seems like a logical decision. According to the Japanese company, the PC platform leads its full game download sales.
As Capcom pointed out, the share of sales – for full games – is about 40% for PC, 30% for the PlayStation Network, 20% for Xbox Live Arcade and 10% for Nintendo platforms.
Do note that these are digital-only numbers, and we do know that digital PC sales are going strong for pretty much all publishers. This also shows that research companies should find more ways to count digital sales and include them in their sales charts (so that they can give a more objective picture of the overall games sales).
Yesterday, we informed you about the incredible sales of the PC gaming hardware. This, accompanied with various earlier reports show that PC gaming is stronger than ever.
With the arrival of DX12 and the new GPUs from AMD and NVIDIA, it will be interesting to see how things will unfold and whether more developers decide to release their games on our platform.

Still, the PC platform won him over consoles. That was mainly due to 3DFX and its iconic dedicated 3D accelerator graphics card, Voodoo 2. PC won’t be their priority since they count consoles as one platform.
console company will always be a console company.
Which is stupid, 5 consoles sales against PC.
No they don’t count consoles as one platform, not when they have to pay Sony and Microsoft expensive license fees before they are even allowed to start selling games on the platform
Well this is pointless too. Add both retail and digital copy sales in your sales report.
This is a PC site. why would they care for physical sales? to make console gamers feel better. Go to IGN they only ever list physical sales and ignore PC.
No, to paint an accurate picture. Everyone can make numbers sound good for themselves as long as you leave out certain bits.
Publishers care about overall sales. Physical sales could still generate the majority of their revenue. We don’t know.
Seriously, you are arguing that incomplete data is better so that some people don’t feel smug about their platform? Jesus…
Digital sales are much more profitable per sold unit though. What’s wrong with reporting on digital sales only when Capcom even releases specifically that information.
The only thing wrong with this article is the headline, it should read “with 40%” instead of “by 40%” since of course the lead itself isn’t 40%.
There’s nothing wrong reporting about it, but to paint an accurate picture of how well Capcom games are selling on various platforms we have to know physical sales too.
40% digital sales on PC is great but what does that actually tell us? We don’t even know what percentage of their overall sales are digital. (For all we know they could sell 90% of their copies physically which would make a 40% share in digital sales almost irrelevant.)
This could easily become 50% PC and 50% Consoles with one big hit on PC for Capcom. Perhaps Dragon’s Dogma: Dark Arisen will be the game that might end up selling much better on PC than it did on consoles. If The Elder Scrolls series, The Witcher series, Dark Souls series are any indication it could easily happen.
i think steamspy provide a very accurate on digital copies on steam. and the number isn’t staggering to be honest.
Except they only count public profiles and most are private so the numbers ultimately are meaningless… also once a game is tossed on a massive sale or given a free weekend that games data is garbage.
That doesnt affect their numbers, because Steamspy is not reading everyones profile to know how many games were sold, they just get a sample (if Im not wrong, its 250k players) per day, and then Steamspy estimate how many people have that game. Based on their sample size its pretty accurate.

I don’t have links but there were people asking developers whether the Steamspy numbers for their games were accurate. Many don’t disclose those numbers, of course, but those who did said its very accurate.
Free weekends will *temporarily* throw the data out of whack but once the weekend is over the numbers normalize again.
I hope they also release asura’s wrath on PC
Well it’s about time those creepy devs start putting the Pc version on top for F*CKS sake!
And we can all thank Valve for their new policy, look what happened to Batman, those dipshit devs were really shakened upside down, and voila, they appologize like forever and kissing our boots. Thats right, it’s about time pc is the first priority or those lazy as* devs surely will feel our wrath. And that means less sales, more pirated copies!
I for one will never support any devs who put out crap like the Denuvo DRM, or a crappy console port with a frame cap etc, not one penny for me, I will allways pirate stuff like that, thats is if I even want to play a sh*tty game like that!
And about that Denuvo crap, both MG5 and Mad Max was cracked by 3DM instanly, and im sure soon a real scene release will follow by those italian guys 😉
I boughy mad max yesterday becausee it has not been fully craced yet(cracck has bugs . crashes e.t.c i read), MGS also has issues.
Keep in mind that PSN means both (PS3 and PS4) and XBL means both (X360 and X1) so its pretty fantastic that PC outperformed two consoles combined
Headline is a bit misleading. PC digital sales aren’t “leading by” 40%. The report simply states that 40% of PC sales are digital. That doesn’t mean PC digital sales are higher overall than the other platforms. It just means that a higher percentage of PC sales are digital.
Yep, poor grammar again I’m afraid. :p Should read ”
PC Platform Leads Capcom’s Digital Sales With 40%”
That’s cool. PC #1
I can’t recall any Capcom games that top retail charts it would be interesting to see how well retails sales were to digital.
