A couple of days ago, Konami unveiled the official box art of Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain, revealing at the same time that Kojima’s name was no longer included on it. Naturally, this sparked a lot of backlash from MGS fans, however Kojima may had included hints regarding his departure in Metal Gear Solid: Ground Zeroes’ Deja Vu mission.
In that particular mission, players are asked to erase all of Kojima’s Metal Gear titles from the game’s environments. What’s really interesting here is that players cannot erase any Metal Gear games that were not directed or created by Hideo Kojima.
And if that wasn’t enough, when players erase the last game directed by Hideo Kojima, they get the following quote.
“You might be able to erase the markings, but the memories will never disappear”
Since Konami is removing Hideo’s name from pretty much all of its Metal Gear titles, we believe that Kojima already knew what was coming.
That, or this whole thing is a big troll scheme from Kojima himself (after all, he’s a master at trolling people).
Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain is coming to the PC on September 15th.

If this is a troll scheme by Kojima then it is the most dumbest and suicidal thing I have I ever seen in the games industry. Why would Konami agree to be painted as a bitter and villainous company by the media and gamers just to generate hype for an already established game series that does not really need any hype to sell millions of copies.
It can sell millions of copies without the hype but not as much as GTA V did. Although, I doubt this is a troll stunt coz this is too much for a mere troll
What the hell does GTA V have to do with any of this?
Because that’s the new sales bar video game companies will be striving for this time. Back then it was Call of Duty sales (the reason there were so many CoD clones back then)
That’s just it. This and Silent Hill, Konami’s biggest AAA titles and Fox Engine, Konami’s new multiplatform gaming engine, are the biggest investments Konami has made in their digital entertainment branch. Here’s my theory. They already created two bogus gaming companies to give first tastes of these games, in the form of the Phantom Pain trailer, not presented as a Metal Gear game, and P.T. Demo, which was revealed to be the playable demo for the next (now supposedly canceled) Silent Hills game.
The news went viral, in all cases, the bogus developers, the news about Kojima being behind the games, Kojima being mistreated, being fired or leaving the company for some other reason, Silent Hill being canceled, P.T. Demo taken from PSN. And the themes in MGSV, sense of loss, sense of rage, cry for revenge, which apply both for Kaz and Big Boss in the game and in real life, for fans of Kojima’s games and Silent Hills games, they all point to the possibility that this could be an outrageous marketing stunt!
The games need to be marketed to a larger and larger gamer base. That means people who might be new to the franchise. That means it has to get as much exposure as theoretically possible, even if it means notoriety, at this point. In order to do that, they might be gambling on the Konami brand at this point, as long as the game franchises are shown in a positive light, with the hopes that positive news would, for a lack of a better expression, break the internet. If this story has gone viral this far, just imagine how much exposure they would get, if they succeeded in a stunt like this?
Now, this is pure speculation from my part. I’m not really sure about everything, just guessing. But, if you’re interested, here’s my theory: https://www.facebook.com/notes/riku-ruohom%C3%A4ki/konami-is-evil-and-you-fell-for-it-sucker/10204287990255074
I don’t think it’s troll attempt. No way… It’s going to ruin Konami forever. It’s just that they are focusing more on Mobiles from now on (along with a lot of other Japs). Kojima on other hand seems to be fond of big as* Console games, not artsy fartsy mobile titles.
It already is ruining Konami as a gaming company, destroying their brand, even for mobile gaming… Unless it’s a viral marketing stunt! Not “just” a marketing stunt, but the biggest marketing stunt in the history of gaming! Remains to be seen. But in the meantime, read my theory “KONAMI IS EVIL! And you fell for it, sucker.” on Facebook.
mobile is not for real gamers. Only for little kds. AAA games will never be on mobile. You need a bit monitor/tv lot of cpu and gpu power and of course keyboard and mouse or controller. Tablets and smartphones dosent have any of this that why they will never be taken seriously from any hardcore gamer. Those who say that mobile is the future dont know what are they talking about ,
you like it or not, it’s not about hardware capabillity but it’s about money.
“Those who say that mobile is the future don’t know what are they talking about ” ShareHolder don’t care about game, but they care about big money.
If this was to be a troll scheme, they wouldn’t be scrapping Silent Hills, just removing Kojima name aswell.
Well, to play devils advocate, the scrapping of the Silent Hills game cold very well be part of the marketing/troll stunt.
Yes it is a troll. He did it once, he will do it twice. That is that. lol
