And the moment of truth has come. During this year’s PAX Australia, Bethesda’s vice president Pete Hines told CNET that Prey 2 has been officially cancelled. Yeap, Prey 2 is no more, despite some earlier rumors suggesting Arkane Studios picking up development after Human Head Studios’ decision to cease the game’s development.
“It was game we believed in, but we never felt that it got to where it needed to be – we never saw a path to success if we finished it,” Pete Hines told CNET and continued:
“It wasn’t up to our quality standard and we decided to cancel it. It’s no longer in development. That wasn’t an easy decision, but it’s one that won’t surprise many folks given that we hadn’t been talking about it.
Human Head Studios is no longer working on. It’s a franchise we still believe we can do something with — we just need to see what that something is.”
And that is that. Prey 2 has been officially cancelled and it’s no longer in development.
While there is a possibility that Arkane may be experimenting behind closed doors with this franchise, we are pretty sure that we won’t see anything for a long time. Let’s not forget that Arkane is currently working on the sequel to Dishonored. Not only that, but Arkane is not a huge studio in order to work simultaneously on two projects.
RIP Prey 2. You will be missed!

shame 😀 but maby will be continued by another Studio/Dev ?
No. When the publisher cancels “Prey 2” then no Prey 2 can happen, they own the name and characters.
And if you’re thinking of the Human Head version of Prey 2 (the one we know from videos and screenshots) that was “cancelled” years ago. They might reuse code from it because they own it so you may see the parkour movement or the aliens or the Blade Runner style dark sci-fi city in a future project. But that game won’t be called Prey 2 and it won’t be financed by Bethesda.
they could “sleeping dogs” it with a diffirent publisher.
In theory, yes. But in practise all their tech was optimized for last-gen so they would have to redo most things at this point. And if no publisher has signed them yet then it’s not going to happen anymore. Full disclosure: Tbh I don’t know what they are up to at all.
at the end of the first game : “Prey will contine…”
8 years later, still nothing…
I’m glad this burden was lifted off Arkane. I may not hold
Dishonored in high regards but Arkane used to be magic and I will always
give them the benefit of the doubt that they might eventually deliver
upon the potential of Dark Messiah. Prey 2 was an unfitting project for them, they are first person developers but not shooter
developers. Prey was mostly a “visceral shooter with portals”, Arkane’s Prey 2 was apparently supposed to be a System Shock spiritual successor or something? I don’t quite remember but there was no way it would have worked for many reasons.
Honestly, this is great news, the game wouldn’t have been even close to the 2011 build.
if Bethesda’s want to make prey 2 they should give it to a good studio other than human head from what i know from 2006 to 2014. 2 game they made prey and the other one was wiiu port for batman
It was their game though, bethesda decided to publish it just like evil within.
Anyway human head claims that there were politics involved and not them messing it up.
They should have kept Tommy as the main protagonist from the start.
They stopped working on Prey 2 because they have to work on a sh**ty sequel to Dishonored. Way to go! Really -.-
Videogames industry faith LOST!
