AMD Catalyst 14.7 RC3 Driver Out, Improves Watch_Dogs Performance On Single GPU & Multi-GPU Configs

AMD has released a new set of drivers that come with improved performance on Watch_Dogs, an AMD Crossfire profile for Wildstar, and single GPU and multi-GPU performance enhancements on Lichdom.

In addition, this driver includes all the changes made to previous RC, meaning that AMD users can expect improved CrossFire scaling on Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag, improvements with AOC monitors, and a Crossfire profile for Plants vs Zombies.

Those interested can download this new driver from here.

And here is the full changelog:

Feature Highlights of the AMD Catalyst 14.7 RC3 Driver for Windows

  • Includes all improvements found in the AMD Catalyst 14.7 RC driver
  • Display interface enhancements to improve 4k monitor performance and reduce flickering.
    • Improvements apply to the following products:
      • AMD Radeon R9 290 Series
      • AMD Radeon R9 270 Series
      • AMD Radeon HD 7800 Series
    • Even with these improvements, cable quality and other system variables can affect 4k performance.  AMD recommends using DisplayPort 1.2 HBR2 certified cables with a length of 2m (~6 ft) or less when driving 4K monitors.
  • Wildstar:  AMD Crossfire profile support
  • Lichdom:  Single GPU and Multi-GPU performance enhancements
  • Watch Dogs:   Smoother gameplay on single GPU and Multi-GPU configurations

Feature Highlights of the AMD Catalyst 14.7 RC Driver for Windows

  • Includes all improvements found in the AMD Catalyst™ 14.6 RC driver
  • AMD CrossFire™ and AMD Radeon™ Dual Graphics profile update for Plants vs. Zombies
  • Assassin’s Creed IV – improved CrossFire scaling (3840×2160 High Settings) up to 93%
  • Collaboration with AOC has identified non-standard display timings as the root cause of 60Hz SST flickering exhibited by the AOC  U2868PQU panel on certain AMD Radeon™ graphics cards. A software workaround has been implemented in AMD Catalyst 14.7 RC driver to resolve the display timing issues with this display.
    • Users are further encouraged to obtain newer display firmware from AOC that will resolve flickering at its origin.
    • Users are additionally advised to utilize DisplayPort-certified cables to ensure the integrity of the DisplayPort data connection.

Feature Highlights of the AMD Catalyst 14.6 RC Driver for Windows

  • Plants vs. Zombies (Direct3D performance improvements):
    • AMD Radeon R9 290X – 1920×1080 Ultra – improves up to 11%
    • AMD Radeon R9 290X – 2560×1600 Ultra – improves up to  15%
    • AMD Radeon R9 290X CrossFire configuration (3840×2160 Ultra)  – 92% scaling
  • 3DMark Sky Diver improvements:
    • AMD A4-6300 – improves up to 4%
    • Enables AMD Dual Graphics/AMD CrossFire support
  • Grid Auto Sport:
    • AMD CrossFire profile
  • Wildstar:
    • Power Xpress profile
    • Performance improvements to improve smoothness of application
    • Performance improves up to 24% at 2560×1600 on the AMD Radeon R9 and R7 Series of products for both single GPU and multi-GPU configurations.
  • Watch Dogs:
    • AMD CrossFire – Frame pacing improvements

    1. I’m an amd user but I’ve gotta admit that Nvidia has got the best drivers. And that’s a fact, not an opinion. I’ve used Nvidia in the past and I can confirm this.

      1. I am an owner of both, and I’m here to tell you that your “fact” is actually just opinion. AMD drivers have been VASTLY improved since a few years ago. I do not notice the difference in quality and support between nvidia and AMD in this regard.

        1. Well, I agree to some extent with you but my FACT was that AMD has still ways to go to match Nvidia’s drivers. Like in the past, I had a lot of driver issues with the HD 5000 series cards that I had to drop AMD for a while. Now I’m using an R9 280x and so far I’ve encountered no problems.

          1. Still flying a 5850, haven’t run into driver issues.

Used to run into them a bunch back my 6600LE days and the x1950 era.

Drivers are actually solid currently from both companies.

Now, updating a driver, that’s another adventure.

        1. You can search the internet if you want. In the past, AMD’s drivers have been horrendous. BSOD, compatibility issues, poor performance were common problems associated with AMD’s drivers. Now they’re gradually getting better. It might have been a problem with the hardware but AMD knows what they’re doing.

I said it’s a FACT, because I’ve experienced it myself. There’s an argument on this. If ye but knew.

          1. LOL oh Muhammad. Nvidia has had just as many problems recently not to mention earlier this year when they released drivers that were actually bricking cards dead.

          2. Well, guys you can the say the equilibrium is shifting now. I’m an AMD user. Right now, yes I have noticed that there have been many improvements but generally speaking, the problems that Nvidia users encounter are nothing compared to what AMD users have. If you didn’t encounter any problem then you’re a lucky one. That doesn’t mean that nobody will have any problems with that.

When I used hd 5450 in my school work PC, I had many BSOD’s when I was trying to install drivers. And that was frustrating as hell and it was not just me with that problem. Then I swapped it with a GT 440 and all the problems flew away. People who use Nvidia has rather a positive outlook of their provider but AMD users have only stopped complaining recently. When I said that Nvidia’s drivers are better than AMD , that didn’t mean Nvidia is perfect. Nvidia has it’s own problems but those problems are less than what AMD users had in the past.

          3. Rest assure I know the info on the internet better than you. Also why the past when you are taking at present? Comparability issues and BSOD’s I can find on the internet for Nvidia drivers without any problems.

Al lot of people including me have experienced problems with Nvidia drivers. What does that mean?

      2. It’s just your opinion, not fact. Don’t twist words to suit your own needs. I changed from a AMD to Nvidia, and haven’t had any problems on both ends till now. There are lots of people with Nvidia cards having problems, go look it up on the net. Like you said, go look up the net for AMD card problems.

        1. If I said that Nvidia is ‘better’ than AMD at making drivers, does that mean that Nvidia is damn flawless? HELL NAW! Nvidia has it’s own problems too. What I mean to say is, those problems are less compared to AMD’s driver issues.

Gawd, do you guys really need explanations at every little thing?

          1. When you say stuff like “And that’s a fact, not an opinion” you need to explain things. Anyway no hard feelings. Just enjoy your card 🙂

    2. Nvidia kicks the shit out of AMD when it comes to GPU:s. AMD belongs in the CPU field where they beat Intel silly in every test.

        1. Ive been smoking a lots of net reviews, what did you do ? Intel ?! Lol you are funny! Overpricized good for nothing crap.

  1. So Watch_Dogs has been repaired…..

You’ve got breaks until Far cry 4 and AC Unity AMD. Enjoy while you still can 😀

  2. “a Crossfire profile for Plants vs Zombies”
I’m gonna assume that’s Garden Warfare lol

lt looks like the game they are really focusing on is Wildstar. Nobody cares about Watch Dogs any more.

  3. AMD fast as ever!! (as usual !) They make crappy GPU:s, they however make the best CPU:s on the market, Intel doesnt stand a chance in the most hardcore CPU league.

  4. I’m playing watch dogs on my laptop having 4gb ram,i5 processor and AMD 7670m graphic card. is this catalyst valid for this card ? i am much worried. because my game is lagging. i don’t know why 🙁
