There is no doubt that the new Wolfenstein title is one of the most anticipated games of 2014. Unfortunately, though, the game has already been leaked on torrent sites a week prior to its official release.
Scene group ‘COLLATERAL’ has already leaked the PS3 version of the game that can be played right away – provided you have jailbroken your console.
Moreover – and according to various reports – the X360 will be leaked really ‘soon’ (which may translate to a day or two).
As usual, the PC version has not been leaked yet, proving that piracy is a big issue even on consoles. The PC version of Wolfenstein: The New Order is powered by Steam’s DRM, meaning that it will not be leaked until the game has been unlocked on various regions.
Last but not least, we strongly suggest avoiding linking to the illegal version of Wolfenstein: The New Order. Such comments will be deleted.

just fyi, gtav release that leaked earlier than launch were psn digital version which are merely useless. There was no patch for exploitation to enable the game during that leak period, but Wolfenstein leak is the retail version so that makes it the earliest playable game ever leaked afaik.

Not to mention used game sales which are huge for console games and have the same effect on developers, which is that they don’t see a single cent.
Even worse than piracy, used game sales are actual lost sales. With used games you can really count each one sold as a lost sale, whereas a pirate might not have decided to get a game if he had to pay for it, the used games buyer certainly was willing to. Only that they did so in a way that profits only the reseller while the creator doesn’t see a penny.
But publishers always want to blame PC and evil pirates. I am sick of it. Used game sales are much worse and I refuse to buy a game without playing a demo first but since there are no demos anymore the only way to test a game is by pirating it.
What a sad state of affairs.
Used games are one of the best things to ever happen to gaming imo:
– They drive devs to make more interesting and content filled games to avoid trade-ins.
– They create jobs and provide income for thousands.
– They are likely responsible for the awesome Steam sales we get.
– They allow people to buy copies of games which have long since gone out of print.
– They allow me to play EA games without supporting EA.
– And most importantly, they put power in the hands of the consumer: if you don’t think a game is worth the rrp, you can buy used, which, in turn forces publishers to lower the price.
Personally, i buy most AAA games used and all indie games straight from the developer. That’s just my opinion though, and I respect your right to stick to yours 🙂
Edit: Just wanted to mention that I agree with your stance on piracy. I think certain companies are just asking for it. For example, I own a 3ds but because of Nintendo’s region locking bullshit (I’m European), I can’t play SMT4. Better fucking believe I’m pirating that

Not much of pc news but yeah console piracy is just as relevant as pc piracy, however piracy comes from poor countries where consoles are very expensive, so if you gonna pirate something might do it the cheapest, most acessable and less damaging way, eg pc rather modding a console with various risks and burning dvds.

I can’t remember where I read this article, but Koji Kondo, the composer of Mario had to go to Brazil to perform his music in front of a crowd. However, he was afraid as the numbers were showing nothing for the country in terms of sales for Mario. Though when he did turn up, so did tons of people. How had they really gotten to know Mario? Through pirated copies.

I’ve played through that a couple times. There’s something about it that I don’t like, however. I mean, the weapons feel nice – zapping someone into red mist is awesome, so there’s nothing lacking in the weapons. Perhaps it’s just the pace? Doom 3 is frenetic and anything and everything will pop out at you. Taking ‘missions’ really kind of ruins the flow a little. I think? I probably shouldn’t compare them, but there it is.
Yes its the pacing between the collectables, its just horrible. It cuts the action all the time.

I think it’s worth knowing both worlds between consoles and computers as they have different architectures. On consoles, developers like to have a standard platform spec to fully optimize their game to full extent on hw. It’s all about delivering the best performance and scalablility of what suits best of both worlds with available technology.
Sometimes we have to look into issues such as game engine framework efficiency, api compatibility, specialization, optimization capabilities and etc. If let’s say, consoles died, were there be any effort in standardizing each game on a specific platform built?
Every game development framework would go haywire because of fragmentation issue here. Then what say Steam machines? Aren’t they catagorized under the same group? Hipocripsy? If Steam machines were made flexible in customization, it’s no difference than a pc itself with a controller.
In near future, there will be a layer of abstraction between those worlds. Cloud GPU capabilities is slowly stepping in, users using the service will not be able to differentiate whether it’s virtualize consoles or computers.
Everything is essentially a computer, come on what’s there to be debatable about. #justsayin

Nothing is ideal my dear, unless you have cutting edge hardware (better performance) which is better than current-gens’ (budget resource constraint).
Consoles are meant for simplicity, specialization, and affordability (can’t expect to have a Titan Z on current-gen consoles because of design architectures, consistency and compatibility)
Or course it sounds like a hardsell but the truth is, all are made for different consumers. Some might not even bother about those minor graphical setbacks.
Technology keeps improving, on average population no one can withstand the constant need for hardware upgrades. But with gradual better optimization/rendering techniques, better fps alright?
Clearly we’re currently in the era of graphical leap, soon industry would move towards better AI techniques (surpass Turing test), seamless game mechanics and immersive storytelling. Beyond that is to be discovered.
Consoles used to be cheap and simple, now they are not anymore, installs, errors, accounts, firmwire updates, patches, might as well use a pc.
