In June 2026, we informed you about a mod that aimed to add a Multiplayer Mode to The Last of Us Part 2 Remastered. That mod was planned to be released this month. However, its creator has announced that Sony got in touch with him and asked him to shut it down.
Although The Last of Us Part 2 did not have a Multiplayer Mode, the first game featured a 4v4 multiplayer mode called Factions. However, Naughty Dog decided to remove that mode from the sequel.
With this mod, PC gamers would be able to get a taste of what a Factions mode could feel like in TLOU Part 2. However, Sony ruined those plans.
This is exactly why modders should stay quiet until their mods are finished. Some companies are fine with mods, but others will shut them down, no matter how cool they are. Take-Two is one of those companies. Nintendo is another. And now, you can add Sony to that list.
From what I can see, Speclizer’s YouTube channel still has the WIP videos for this multiplayer mod. I don’t believe Sony will take them down. Still, I suggest watching the following videos while they are still available. These videos can give you a glimpse of what this mod aimed to achieve.
Anyway, in case you have not been in the loop, Sony will no longer bring its single-player games to PC. These games will stay exclusive on the Sony platforms. Instead, the company will bring us the games I, and I assume others, hate: GaaS. So, that’s kind of a bummer.
I just hope now that the Multiplayer Mod for Cyberpunk 2077 will not meet the same fate. CDPR is a mod-friendly company, compared to Take-Two or Sony. But hey, you never know what may happen.
Stay tuned for more!
Hey everyone, as you all know, the TLOU 2 Multiplayer mod that has been in development since January was supposed to release this month. Unfortunately I recently received a letter on behalf of Sony Interactive Entertainment requesting for the mod not to be released. Extremely sad…
