No, Ubisoft did not shadowdrop Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time Remake

Last year, a report from Tom Henderson suggested that Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time Remake would be released on January 16th, 2026. Well, that date has passed, and no. Ubisoft did not shadowdrop this game on current-gen consoles and PC. The game is not out.

Tom Henderson is usually a reliable leaker, but we never covered this rumor because something didn’t feel right. Once 2026 arrived, it became clear why. There was no way Ubisoft would shadowdrop this remake. Some thought that this would be similar to what happened with Oblivion Remastered. But no, Ubisoft did not follow Bethesda’s example.

But let’s take things from the beginning. In September 2020, Ubisoft officially announced the remake of Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time. However, its first screenshots left all Prince of Persia fans disappointed. The game did not look good. As a result, Ubisoft decided to delay the game until March 18th, 2021.

Things went downhill in 2021. In February 2021, Ubisoft announced that the game was delayed indefinitely. But then, in June 2021, Ubisoft stated that the remake was targeting a 2022 release date. To the surprise of no one, the game did not come out in 2022.

On top of that, in May 2023, Ubisoft claimed that the remake was still in a conception stage. But then, in June 2024, Ubisoft claimed that the remake was targeting a 2026 release date.

And this brings us to 2026. Since June 2024, we haven’t heard anything at all. Some people think that the remake has been quietly canceled. Others believed Henderson’s report and assumed that it would shadowdrop today.

Personally, I think the remake is still being worked on. However, I wouldn’t be shocked if it gets delayed again. There’s also no chance Ubisoft will suddenly shadowdrop it. That might work for a huge game like Assassin’s Creed: Black Flag, but not for Prince of Persia: Sands of Time. Especially after how disappointed people were when it was first shown. Ubisoft will want to fix that by showing previews, trailers, and lots of videos before releasing it. It will do everything in its power to hype it.

In conclusion, from what we know so far, Ubisoft is still targeting a 2026 release date for Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time. Yes, the game did not come out today. However, this doesn’t mean that it has been canceled. My guess is that we’ll get an update this Summer, during the “E3” period.

Stay tuned for more!
