Back in September 2024, we shared a cool RTX Remix Mod for Max Payne. Sadly, it hasn’t been updated in almost a year. But don’t worry, Max Payne fans. A new RTX Remix Mod is now being worked on, and you can try a demo of it right now.
This new RTX Remix Mod lets you play the entire game with Path Tracing. However, since it’s a demo, it has some limitations.
Right now, you will only find hand-crafted PBR materials in the Roscoe Street Station. In future versions, the modder plans to add more of them for the rest of the game. There is also a newly modeled and textured train.
As I said, the good news is that all of the game’s chapters support Path Tracing. There are some issues at some levels, though. For example, Chapters 4, 5, and 6 have issues, and you’ll need to toggle the default game lights back on to play them.
Now, contrary to the previous RTX Remix Mod, this one retains the art style of the original game. At the end of the article, you can find a comparison between the path-traced and the vanilla versions of Max Payne. As you will see, the path-traced version manages to enhance the look and feel of the game. At the same time, its art style remains similar to it. This should please a lot of people who were annoyed by the unique look of the previous RTX Remix Mod.
You can go ahead and download the mod from this link. Be sure to also read its installation guide.
These past couple of weeks, we’ve shared a lot of RTX Remix Mods. So, you can find mods for Black Mesa, Star Wars Republic Commando, NFS: Underground, and Manhunt. You can also find some for BioShock, Morrowind, NFS: Underground 2, Star Wars Jedi Outcast, and Vampire: The Masquerade – Bloodlines.
In January 2024, we shared several RTX Remix Mods that are in the works. As such, you can take a look at screenshots and videos for Tomb Raider 2, Grand Theft Auto: Vice City, Manhunt, and Garfield Kart RTX Remix. Then, in February 2024, we shared videos for Need for Speed: Most Wanted, Unreal, Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 4, and Midnight Club 2. Be sure to also check out some early RTX Remix videos and screenshots for Fallout: New Vegas, Tom Clancy’s Splinter Cell, COD 2, and Half-Life.
Speaking of Path Tracing Mods for older titles, you might also want to check out the following ones. Modders released demos for their Path Tracing Mods for Deus Ex, Tomb Raider, and Call of Duty 4. Do note that the COD4 Mod is a “proof of concept” demo, and it does not look that great. Let’s also not forget the RTX Remix for COD: WoW. And then we have the RTX Remix Mods for Painkiller and Left 4 Dead 2. Oh, and don’t forget to try this RTX Remix for Unreal Tournament 2004. In September 2024, we also shared a new version of the RTX Remix Mod for Max Payne. Lastly, you can download these amazing Path Tracing Mods for Doom, Doom 2, Quake, and Serious Sam.
Enjoy and stay tuned for more!

So nice! Love Max Payne. Too bad these mods are basically not going anywhere, maybe except for the one for NFSU2
A 'reflection' on the lack of talent within the modding scene.
Nah, it's just that it's much more work than it seems.
It requires redoing the lighting of the levels to adapt it to RT/PT, redoing all textures into PBR materials, even some 3D assets to look up to the new visuals, so it's much more work than just doing a classic simple upscaled texture mod.
Exactly, lack of talent.
