The Witcher 4 feature

The Witcher 4’s tech to be featured at State of Unreal 2025

CD Projekt has announced that it will showcase some of the tech and features of The Witcher 4 at the upcoming State of Unreal 2025 event. As such, we might get some pre-alpha in-engine footage from it.

The Witcher 4 will be powered by Unreal Engine 5. And, as CDPR stated, it will “showcase some of the innovative technology & features that will power The Witcher 4, and beyond.”

That “beyond” statement most likely hints at Cyberpunk 2, which is claimed to be in pre-production. I’m merely guessing here as I don’t believe CDPR is working on anything else other than TW4 and Cyberpunk 2.

The Witcher 4 will feature a big open-world area. And, as we all know by now, UE5 had some issues with open-world environments. So, I’m curious to see what CDPR and Epic Games will show.

Speaking of State of Unreal 2025, we might also get some new in-engine footage for Marvel 1943: Rise of Hydra. From what we know, this game targets a 2026 release date. As such, it would make a lot of sense to show off some of its tech at this year’s SOU.

Both The Witcher 4 and Marvel 1943: Rise of Hydra look amazing. These are by far two of the best-looking games that are coming to PC in the next couple of years. And yes, I know there is another game using UE5 that may be shown. This game is none other than the new Gears of War game, Gears of War: E-Day.

State of Unreal 2025 will air on June 3rd at 9:30 AM ET | 3:30 PM CEST. Right now, I don’t have a link for the live stream. What I can share is the official website for State of Unreal 2025. And yes, I’ll be sure to cover this event (as well as all the other gaming events that will air this month).

Stay tuned for more!

  1. Ah…yes! More blurrier than ever, pixelated shimmery globs poked deeply with RheyTracing and glazed by eye squeezing brightness levels running at glorious 240p upscaled on a 5090 chugging all it can… Truly UnReal, next-gen features. State of UnReal experience

    1. Funny thing is, all of the publishers are aware of those issues. Yet they still keep on using UE because its cheaper than making your own engine. Not to mention its easier & cheaper to hire unreal engine devs and contracters than good experienced game devs

      1. IMO The decline really started when external attributes became more important than skills and passion in the hiring process at some dev's. At that point it became increasingly important to get the easiest engine that some where familiar with or at-least could pick up the basics rather quickly. That lack of passion and skill is the reason games from almost 10 years from a skilled and passionate team can both look better AND perform way better than many of today's sad excuses of factory like condition made games – Often from staff that didn't earn their hire through skill and passion for the art that is making great games.

        1. And the passion games are mostly being made by Indie devs and to huge success as well, Clair Obscur, balatro, nine sols were all a huge success and great games

  2. Witcher featuring someone who can't even be a witcher because of reasons… yeah don't sound like a another lore rewriting because of political reasons at all does it? It have the telltales of saved money but time will tell

  3. CDPR is working on unannounced projects. 3 to be precise other than Witcher 4 and Cyberpunk 2.
They said this on their recent investment call.

    1. There was an Interview of Tim Sweeney recently where the topic of the issues with Unreal were brought up. It seems that a large part of the issue is that development for UE5 has been surprisingly separated across various branches that various studios and developers have access to. Methods, Fixes and updates for users of one segment may not reach others resulting in UE5 being totally fine for some games, developers and builds while being a mess and disrelated in others. For example, a lot of the issues people have with UE5 games regularly are usually not present in the Mobile Games using UE or in Fortnite because they use different forks of the engine. He thinks that the resolution would be UE6's big advancement being that all the forks would be unified to avoid this current mess.

      1. You forgot the part where he said it's basically single core optimized because they think the devs are imbeciles. He said the next version will allow multicore for the things that matter. The reason sh@# mobile games or games with awful textures that look like a cartoon have no problem is that they take nothing to generate or load in so a single core is fine.

This is why DX 11 games using Unreal Engine perform stupidly better with DXVK Async branches than even Native DX 11 games. DX 9 games see an even bigger swing in performance like GTA 4.

gplasync is simply what everyone should be using for dx9-dx11 games now days. Native DX 12 basically does the same thing with async for shaders so for DX 12 games native is fine. Don't use gplasync for multiplayer shooters with anticheat though. The injection might get a false flag just like reshade.

  4. What the actual f*k did they do to Ciri's face? If that's a generational leap then I'd rather they go backwards. What is it with gamer developers making women uglier? Like that fat ginger pig faced witch from Horizon.

  5. The edge CDPR has over most developers that use UE5 is they actually have a team of people who know how to develop a game engine so they understand the inner workings much better

Programming a game using a game engine is one thing but actually developing a game engine is an entirely different skill set and a lot of them that have the skill get scooped up by Nvidia and AMD who pay much better and have much more progressive wages and benefits (Pregnancy leave – 6 months for females and 3 months for male employees)

    1. None of that matters in the current version of Unreal that they had admitted is single core optimized. The game is simply going to stutter when entering new areas where asset generation happens and they have made no claims it isn't. CDPR are also pathological liars when it comes to vertical slices and claims. It's not the tech peoples fault, it's the marketing.

  6. Gaming Discourse gets so sad man. I just do not understand these people who are hoping the game is bad because of one trailer. Studio made absolute bangers for most of their history but now this one is going to be bad for "reasons."

    1. It's mainly sad because of demoralized bugmen like yourself who keep eating up trash without comprehending the massive culture war the West has been in for decades.

Those "reasons" you are speaking of have been discussed by several of us on here on many different articles. You actively choose to dismiss them because you're some kind of centrist bundle of sticks with zero principles and zero backbone with no stake in anything. So take your useless rear end out of here and go quarantine yourself to the likes of reddit. Leave the rest of us who still have some standards the fudge alone.

      1. I wouldn't say I'm demoralized as there's plenty of stuff I still have on my list to check out this year. I don't know man it's like games get better and better every generation but people still make these detractions over conjecture and that same culture war BS that does not matter. You look at some comment section's and people are just ignorant to some of the coolest innovations in the space or the possibility of checking out the next immersive experience from devs who have pretty strong track records or unknowns looking to cut their teeth in the space with something new. They haven't even shown any gameplay or story stuff for witcher 4 but everyone just assumes its going to be the worst game of all time based on like 2 articles of info and no gameplay trailer. It feels like people just arent actually gamers when they hate on something that much instead of just supporting stuff they do like. I guess it's just weird that the comments here are the way they are sometimes but I mostly come for john's independent reporting.

        1. >Games get better and better each generation

          Slop-eater confirmed.

          >but people still make these detractions over conjecture and that same culture war BS that does not matter

Demoralized bugman confirmed. This crap is part of the proverbial frog being slowly boiled but you don’t care because you are that frog that doesn’t notice. Kindly GTFO and take your nihilist BS with you

          1. Never thought it was possible to reach your level of projection. If you don’t notice we’ve progressively gotten some of the best games of all time year over year even in recent years, wouldn’t that make you the nihilist?

          2. "no u"

About what I expected from a midwit soyboy like yourself. You keep saying that we got some of the best games of all time, yet haven't posted any examples.

          3. real gamers know, if you can’t see it I don’t what to tell you pal. If you actually played games you wouldn’t even have to ask. All you have his your empty keyboard insults. Probably can’t even afford to game lol, I’d be mad if that was the case too.

          4. “reel gaymurz” lol ok phaggot, if you were one of them you’d know that the industry peaked in the PS2 era and it’s been on a decline since, with each generation being significantly worse than the last. A part of you knows this which is why you can’t post any examples of modern games that may be considered great.

            “u kent afford gaymes hurrdurr”
Whether or not I can buy games (I can btw, just as easily I can purchase your mother) has nothing to do with the quality of games. You just wanted to throw that in there because you have nothing. You are nothing.

          5. Stay mad I guess? All you have is insults spelled wrong. I have the games I get to enjoy throughout gaming’s vast history because I’m not stuck playing PS2 in 2025 as well as more to look forward to. PS2 did have some great games, but there are great games today too and I pity you if you think that’s the sole peak. Maybe one day you’ll get a PS3 and be able to enjoy something new lol.

          6. So you’re one of those new = good tards, good to know. Keep eating your modern day digital slop and existing in utter mediocrity. I’ve got a massive backlog of some of the best games ever made to go through, I don’t need to waste my life on modern trash like you do.

And yes, PS2 generation is peak, with the other peaks being PS1 and SNES. It hasn’t been the same since the mid 2000s, and it’s utterly mediocre now. Anyone who says otherwise is a braindead h*mo who only exists to consume. Prove me wrong, loser.

          7. You prove yourself wrong. All you can do is fling censored insults while clinging to the past. I have nothing to do here but be sad for you.
