A couple of weeks ago, YouTube user ‘R.G.Surota’ posted a video showing Fallout 3’s intro recreated in Unreal Engine 5. And, in my opinion, it looks really cool. So, if you love Fallout, you should definitely check it out.
To create this video, R.G.Surota used 3D models that can be found in the Unreal Engine Marketplace. Plus, some of them are from The Capital Wasteland mod project for Fallout 4.
As you will see, the end result is quite amazing. The artist was able to capture the atmosphere of the original intro. Plus, thanks to UE5, the lighting looks better than before. This really looks like what you’d expect from a modern remake of Fallout 3. I know this won’t happen. Still, it can give us an idea of what it could have looked like.
For comparison purposes, I also included the original video for Fallout 3 below. As such, you will be able to compare them. Moreover, it will be easier to see the visual improvements of this recreation. So, go ahead and compare them. The fan remake looks better than the original. And this is created by only one person.
Do note that this isn’t a playable demo that you can download. This is a portfolio project and nothing more. Still, I believe it looks quite cool, which is why I’ve decided to share it with you.
Speaking of Unreal Engine 5, you should also check out the following fan projects. For instance, you can find some faithful remasters of Dark Souls and Dark Souls 3, which are super cool. A few months ago, we also shared an amazing remake of Toy Story 2. Then there’s this cool fan remake of Metal Gear Solid. Let’s also not forget this fantastic fan remake of STALKER that’s worth a look. Oh, and don’t miss the Grand Theft Auto 6 fan concept in UE5; it’s pretty impressive. In February 2024, we also shared fan remakes of Grand Theft Auto San Andreas and GTA 3, as well as an Uncharted fan game. We also have a fan remaster of Unreal Gold in UE5. You should also watch the full-on remake video for Final Fantasy 9, and this HD-2D Fan Remake for Xenogears.
Need for Speed Carbon and Tony Hawk’s Underground have also received some cool remakes. Oh, and there is a fan remake of Tomb Raider The Last Revelation, featuring Angelina Jolie and Christoph Walz. And if that’s not enough, there are fan remakes for Star Wars: Republic Commando, Death Stranding, Fallout 4, Grand Theft Auto 4, Need for Speed: Most Wanted, Fallout 4, Resident Evil 1, and Silent Hill 3’s Lakeside Amusement Park. Finally, there is this Studio Ghibli-like teaser for Zelda: Ocarina of Time in Unreal Engine 5.
Enjoy and stay tuned for more!

Bethesda's is better, it's just low resolution that was screen captured at 1080p.
Seriously, Lumen doesn't even look good. It's such a waste.
One bad implementation and it's an overall consensus on something being horrible eh?
And lumen in comparison to ray tracing /path tracing is actually pretty damn good. Especially when overall performance and resources are being considered.
honestly the only game that implemented unreal engine 5 right was robocop.
Then why is there so much ghosting in the global illumination? I had to edit the config file to fix it, and lost about 20 FPS in doing so. The game would have looked better if you could have just turned that sh*t off.
Playing on a potato? It would make sense then.
Why would you assume that Lumen ghosts more on a low end PC? The ghosting is caused by the temporal frame accumulation that they use for denoising. Altering the resolution it renders Lumen at allows you to reduce the number of accumulated frames, thus reducing the ghosting, however the downside is a significant reduction in FPS.
Too that one literally didn’t you….
I understood the sarcasm of your previous post, however I felt the only way to respond to it was to point out its stupidity.
Because of course this is the only implementation of Lumen I've ever seen…
Guess so. I'm not you pal, so I couldn't tell from the ignorance…
Why do you assume I'm the ignorant one? From where I sit, you seem ignorant to me.
That`s great! Hopefully oblivion remastered in ue5 will launch soon and with remade dungeons – if that sucks then hopefully skyblivion will rock!
moron
at this point i got to ask, does unreal engine not have rgb filters? Why does everything in it look brown and grey?
I'm sure it does, it's just that he didn't use the green tint filter that Fallout 3 is known for.
It Sure does. Just like every other engine out there. It's called Post Processing. Just depends on how they (the artist) implements it.
I suspect this is a real question… which…
obviously its a joke but i saw a video on how stalker 2 looked when first shown and how it looks now, it checks out, unreal engine 5 looks so generic and soulless.
Every engine has a "default look" made by default values in a huge number of visuals related parameters… Unity very much does too, same as every other one from every dev studio. If devs don't change it, all games end up looking kinda the same. Only problem is a million games get made with UE for every gente and theme imaginable, and it starts to look generic. What else do you expect… 🤦🏻♂️
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hv76CdP4anE speaking of fallout, they are bringing back this abomination.
Skyrim: five trillion total conversions and dlc sized mods.
New vegas: you get the cringe frontier and like it.
Looks about as smooth as the typical unreal 5 game, the vid shows the same type of crap performance so hats off to that detail 🙂
No. I will, in fact, not take a look.
