Now here is something cool for all our Resident Evil fans. YouTube’s ‘Souls Apart’ has recreated the entire Spencer Mansion from the first Resident Evil game in Unreal Engine 5.
It’s really cool to witness the entire Spencer Mansion in 3D. This should also give us a small taster of what a remake of RE could look like in UE5. In theory, it could look even better. After all, this was made by a single artist (and by an entire game studio).
We all know that the original RE game used pre-rendered environments. So, in my opinion, the best way to replay that game is via the Seamless Project. That project upscaled the backgrounds with vectorized masks, restored integrated images and texts, and upscaled all of the game’s 3D models. Moreover, it brought better in-game screens, improved numerous visual effects, and upscaled all menu elements and HQ portraits.
Sadly, this fan remake of the RE Spencer Mansion is not available for download. As such, you cannot experience it yourselves. Still, the video at the end shows off all of its areas.
From what we know, Capcom does not currently plan to remake this classic RE game. There was a rumor last year that a RE Remake was in development. Then, we heard that a remake of Code Veronica was in development. And then we heard that Capcom was working on a Resident Evil Zero Remake.
In short, a remake of the old RE games is like the PC port of Bloodborne. Everyone wants it but there is nothing officially announced as of yet. Let’s also not forget that Capcom is too busy with other projects. So, don’t hold your breath for a remake.
Speaking of Unreal Engine 5, you should also check out the following fan projects. For instance, you can find some faithful remasters of Dark Souls and Dark Souls 3, which are super cool. A few months ago, we also shared an amazing remake of Toy Story 2. Then there’s this cool fan remake of Metal Gear Solid. Let’s also not forget this fantastic fan remake of STALKER that’s worth a look. Oh, and don’t miss the Grand Theft Auto 6 fan concept in UE5; it’s pretty impressive. In February 2024, we also shared fan remakes of Grand Theft Auto San Andreas and GTA 3, as well as an Uncharted fan game. We also have a fan remaster of Unreal Gold in UE5. You should also watch the full-on remake video for Final Fantasy 9, and this HD-2D Fan Remake for Xenogears.
Need for Speed Carbon and Tony Hawk’s Underground have also received some cool remakes. Oh, and there is a fan remake of Tomb Raider The Last Revelation, featuring Angelina Jolie and Christoph Walz. And if that’s not enough, there are fan remakes for Star Wars: Republic Commando, Death Stranding, Fallout 4, Grand Theft Auto 4, Need for Speed: Most Wanted, Fallout 4, Resident Evil 1, and Silent Hill 3’s Lakeside Amusement Park. Finally, there is this Studio Ghibli-like teaser for Zelda: Ocarina of Time in Unreal Engine 5.
Enjoy and stay tuned for more!

as a side project its a commendable effort, i'm not gonna bash it as a mean to show my despise about UE5, but i guess adding more grain and clutter, tuning the lighting to a more yellow/orange color rather than industrial white with lens flare, and really tuning down the reflection and specular effects would help this project alot. kudos to the creator.
Cool, now what? 😂 Is how I feel about things like this. It's not like it could ever be used in any official capacity. Seems like hard work going unpaid.
most arts are unpaid hard labors, doesn't mean they are worthless. worth is not equal to value.
looks like one of those unity shovelware games from 10 years ago.
Cool. Now do the banquet hall from Karazhan.
I feel like the original atmosphere is completely lost here.🤔
I'm always surprised to realize the huge impact fixed cameras had on aesthetics and the overall ambiance of this game.
The original game feels very much like a movie, thanks to that. (also the remake on Gamecube)
But this first-persion view makes me realize how boring and dull that house looks after all. It just looks like one of these millions of cheap horror games we see on Steam, that is, extremely generic and boring, with uninspired level design.
I used to love exploring that house. Here, I don't feel like exploring it at all.
It's not that guy's fault. He did a good job, but it's simply not working in first-person, I guess. And I used to want to explore this house in first-person view, but it's disappointing after all.
For one, showing off a fan project but not making it available to the public is what those in the trades refer to as a "total jerk move". If you don't want to share, then just keep all of it to yourself from the get-go, jerks.
Secondly, stop asking when Resident Evil is getting a remake and ask when it's going to get remade again; the game you're most definitely thinking of already IS a remake of the 1996 PlayStation original.
