Now here is something that may blow you away. Modder ‘EXXXcellent’ has released a new mod that adds proper Path Tracing to Capcom’s latest game, Dragon’s Dogma 2.
This is an incredible mod that can greatly enhance the graphics of the game. By default, Dragon’s Dogma 2 supports RTGI. However, with this mod, you can unlock the full potential of Path Tracing. And, as you will see in the following screenshots, the visual improvements can be easily noticed.
You can download the mod from this link. The default/unmodded RTGI screenshots are on the left, whereas the path-traced screenshots are on the right.
As we can clearly see, the lighting seems more natural when using Path Tracing. Not only that but all objects can now cast shadows. Ambient Occlusion is also enhanced when using the PT Mod. Seriously, just look at the final comparison. The path-traced version feels like a “full-on remaster” of the ray-traced version.
The only downside with this mod right now is that the Denoisers are not working with it. As such, the image when using Path Tracing will be noisy. I don’t know when – and if – this issue will be fixed. EXXXcellent claimed that he was able to have moderate success at denoising the final image by using SPP4, Bounce 1 and DLSS Balanced at 4K on an NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4090, using a very very gentle denoiser with Reshade.
In conclusion, this mod can give us a glimpse at DD2’s future. That is if Capcom decides to embrace Path Tracing. It can also give us a look at what a game using the RE Engine can look like with Path Tracing.
Speaking of DD2, I also suggest giving these mods a go. These mods will greatly enhance your gaming experience, so they are a must. At least in my opinion. You can download this mod that improves its mouse camera movement. Another mod adds a cool lock-on combat mechanic. Then we have the Save Manager Mod which is a must-have mod. This mod allows you to start a new game, create multiple characters, and have an unlimited number of save files for each character. Let’s also not forget this mod that improves the quality of Ray Tracing, and reduces its smearing side effects. Oh, and you can download a free DLSS 3 Mod. There is also this mod that adds teleport waypoints to all major locations. Finally, you can get some 4K Texture Packs from here and here.
Have fun!

yeah that grainy look is amazing…
john seriously, this aint content and nobody likes that grainy garbage either.
This is very much the kind of content that I enjoy on this site. Instead of generic content that all the other sites are doing, we get a taste of cool game mods, lesser known indie games, and technical articles on games. This is good content in addition to the news stuff. But yeah, the path tracing badly needs a quality denoiser.
I don’t mind it….but then again I try my best to not be a negative nelly….UNLESS he starts calling everything amazing…that drove me nuts, articles were fine just the adjective was always the same. your comment was AMAZING..that outlet on the wall??? amazing!!!! my F#$King cat??? ….amazing.
Pretty sure it looks like dogshit but John needs to meet his weekly quote of pro-ray tracing posts mentioning the 4090 that daddy Jensen gave him.
I think my fellow countryman is trying to keep this site alive when there’s a dry season.
I think the article is neat. Because it’s a mod. And because it’s path tracing. A glimpse into future possibilities. While it’s ridiculously grainy atm, my first thought was whether it’d be possible to mod in DLSS ray reconstruction. With that and frame generation it could actually look good and be playable.
WTH, that game doesn’t even have shadows in its vanilla version?
I play some free games (The Dark Mod) which look infinitely better than that.
the dark mod is not a open world game and its dynamic lighting is limited
its not a real global illumination but zone illumination
